Fellas, great idea here: in a QB room with a journeyman and 3 freshmen, lets have your (possibly hurt) QB1 on his 4th start run the ball around against a high school opponent instead of using the snaps to work on his throwing decisions and mechanics.

No. This is stupid and terrible and he sucks and you suck and the coaches and gameplan suck. He should run every down like Tim Tebow because that is his destiny.

ou sucks.

He looks very comfortable throwing to his TE’s and Washington and Winston both look smooth in addition of course to Endries.

Gotta think (hope) getting Moseley in there will be a huge boost to the WR crew, and it seems like they really believe McCutchean is ready to be in the mix.

If he improves as much game over game the next two weeks as he did from last week to this, we’ll be fine heading into the  October road stretch.

Hah…Yeah, I didn’t think it was necessary to point out that Arch and Livingstone are dialed in

What's true is Arch is going the Maliik route of throwing the ball hard enough until eventually it kills someone. He has to learn touch. He seems like he gets so wound up that when he wants to get it to the receiver he's think "just get it out as fast as possible ", and not thinking just get to them accurately.

IMO, neither does "being ready", or whatever terms we want to use. He's missing on what should be the easy stuff, by and large. Throwing 100 mph darts into the ground, intended for guys standing right next to him.
He scored five TDs yesterday so we're definitely nitpicking first world problems here, but it is odd.

Early in the game they were talking about how his mechanics fell apart at certain moments and how that was a focus to maintain it.

Now there’s an apples to apples comparison to the all sec schedule Covid year and a team with Najee Harris at rb, the heisman winner at WR plus Waddle and Mechie. Not to mention a more experienced offensive line.

Just fucking brilliant.

I guess I need to go back and see if Mac Jones was also throwing behind or skipping the ball in front of open receivers with a clean pocket. I responded to Arch still looking bad after two years in the system because of lack of experience. It did not come across as desired, when you have open receivers you hit them in stride. So Mac Jones had them open more often. The point still stands it is not what I expected but I believe he will get there it just a little disappointing based on what Sark had achieved with other QBs when he could dedicate his full time to them, I blame AJ.

It took Matt Leinart 147 attempts before he settled into a 60+% completion percentage. Mac Jones was at 146 when he came into the year. Maybe Arch is about to get there.

And I don't think OU or Florida is gonna give us the ball four times to set up four easy TD's for Arch. The defense balled out and gave him a short field, and Arch was able to convert those situations that were served on a silver platter.

I'm not calling for his head, and I think he's gonna develop just fine. But goddamnit I've seen this before with Garret Gilbert. I'll feel a lot better when Arch starts playing like a stud and stops being so insanely hot and cold

Head back to the CR little fella.

Matt Leinart had like 3 different offensive coordinators his first two years.

Go ahead and provide a single screen shot, just one, where he made that face last year after hitting a WR on a cross in the feet. Hell, I'll do you one better, show me a screenshot when he hit a WR in the feet on a cross, OR made that face after a throw.

I'll hang up and listen.

I don’t have 24/7 nor do I know what particular route he’s throwing in this image.

He only had one QB coach through 2003 based on what wiki says and it was Sark. What I quoted were 2003 stats when Matt was inexperienced. Also, I was being positive based on attempts for Matt and Mac saying that Arch is about to get there although Keith Price disproves my theory since he reached 60%+ completion percentage on a consistent basis right off the bat in 2011 even though he only had 30 attempts coming into the year.

Arch Manning hurt? Breaking wince-gate wide open

During Texas' 38-7 win over San Jose State on Saturday, the ABC broadcast showed Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning grimacing while throwing an incomplete pass, leading online speculation that the UT signal caller is dealing with an injury. We did some digging and that doesn't appear to be the case.

AUSTIN, Texas — Arch Manning passed for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns, adding in a 20-yard score on the ground, in a 38-7 win over San Jose State on Saturday in Texas' home-opener. The box score reflects a strong outing for the third-year Longhorn, but the conversation coming out of the game has centered around an incomplete pass Manning threw at Ryan Wingo's feet in the first half, one that appeared to suggest Manning may be dealing with an injury to his throwing arm due to a noticeable wince in his face.

Both Steve Sarkisian and Manning were asked about the grimace after the game.

"I don't know," Sarkisian responded. "News to me."

Manning followed up by downplaying a suspected injury.

"No, no," Manning replied. "I got to make that throw. He was open. Ran a good dig route. So got to make that throw."

For reference, here's the throw:

Concerned fans, social media sleuths and even some college football personalities are not convinced.

Sure it looks like he's laboring on the pass, but is it possible that's simply the face he makes when throwing and/or due to displeasure that he knew it was off-target leaving his hand?

One source close to the situation told Horns247: "He's not injured. I think you can look at every quarterback and they're probably wincing and looking as if they're trying very hard."

Need proof?

Here are a few photos prior to this season of Manning throwing a football:

There's still plenty to dissect about Manning's play two games into the season. Sarkisian noted he wants Manning to play his (Manning's) style of game, something Sarkisian believes we saw more of on Saturday.

"He extended plays, used his legs, scrambles for a touchdown. That's the style of player that he is," Sarkisian said after the game on Saturday. "And he's very gifted, because he can make all the throws from the pocket. He can make those out of the pocket, but yet he's big and physical enough that he can hurt you with his legs. And so him playing his game and not trying to play it somebody else's style of game, I think is important for him, but it's also important for the guys around him to know how their quarterbacks going to play."

So while Texas continues to clean up its play with two games and a bye-week to go until the team travels to Gainesville to face Florida, fans can put to rest the notion that Manning is dealing with an injury.

Now, everybody, calm your fucking tits, alright?

Holy shit enough with stat comparisons from the past .

Bobby Layne's first start was for the Texas Longhorns baseball team on March 13, 1944, in an intra-squad game as a freshman pitcher, followed by his first official collegiate game on March 25, 1944, where he threw a complete game 15-strikeout, 3-hit victory against Southwestern University

Bobby Layne wasn't human.

What should we use as a comparison? Highlight in their hair?

How long is this going to last? He was an early enrollee who is in his third year and has played a decent amount of college football.

“Well in James Street’s sixth home start in 1969…..”

im not comparing him to Warren moon or Dan Kendra.

Having Saban yelling down your back is a good way to improve play calling

The difference is offensive line. We had a lot of talent on the O-line but but Williams and Campbell were the kind of guys who get drafted on potential. They rotated turns on getting penalties and being turnstiles all season. Williams let more guys get past him without getting hands on them then I can remember ANY right tackle doing in all the dark years and that's saying a lot.

After listening to the filmguy's latest video, I'm changing my perspective on Arch.  We as a fan base need to give Arch some time to develop.  He's only started 4 games ever.  Now what can teams do to help a young inexperienced QB?  It needs a good run game with a good defense.  That's usually enough to win most games.  I'm still unsure about our RBs and run game but we need them to improve asap.  Can't have a repeat of last year.  I'm jealous of Oregon's run game right now.

And I'd also add, he's slept an awful lot since his first two starts last season. I'd not even bother counting them because continuity in the saddle is an important factor. He's familiar running the offense, but that's against the same defense all the time where he knows their tendencies and doesn't have to worry about getting sacked or a real loss. As he develops, so should the OL. They have a lot of room for improvement too and so long as they do, that will make a big difference in sustaining drives.

Our RBs are fine it is the line that is the problem, or it was last game. Since Sark's massive sized O-linemen have hit the 40 we struggle with undersized, quick D-lines consistently. However, if you have bigger, slower D-lines we will push your shit in. Aggy and Clemson come to mind. We have to figure out how to run against speed. It's hurtus against Georgia and other undersized lines like Arizona State. Baxter got a good hole and showed a burst that looked impressive, but mostly they were running around penetration and getting their first contact behind the LOS.

Arch's struggling is due to not KNOWING knowing the playbook. When you truly know the playbook you know which receivers will be open simply by watching what the defense is morphing into. Arch is still watching routes and then looking to see where the defense is late. You could see that on the TE TD pass up the left side from the endzone camera. Arch is watching the TE then looks around to see where the defense is after. That process should be reversed. Because of this he is holding the ball an awfully long time and then making a rushed throw late. That's why his mechanics are breaking down. When the game slows down, and he truly knows where his receivers will be, his mechanics won't break down. Hopefully that's when he starts layering the football.

Also, whether he gets paid or not, every player should be open to criticism.   Playing football is a privilege. This ain’t intramurals

however Arch is still young and developing.  So far, he’s been a great representative of the university.  Perhaps a little grace is warranted?
