Good lord man, dial back the grievance lol. Arch is making a bunch of bad decisions during games. He will develop.

But it's extremely aggy to wag your finger and tut tut at fans who want to see a good product on the field and not just ugly penalty and mistake filled football. Accepting mediocrity is how you end up perennial 8-4 records

We’re sitting here trashing a QB that had 4 passing TDs and another rushing TD. We do this to every QB. We don’t get to justify that by saying “he’s making a lot of nil money”

And I don't think OU or Florida is gonna give us the ball four times to set up four easy TD's for Arch. The defense balled out and gave him a short field, and Arch was able to convert those situations that were served on a silver platter.

I'm not calling for his head, and I think he's gonna develop just fine. But goddamnit I've seen this before with Garret Gilbert. I'll feel a lot better when Arch starts playing like a stud and stops being so insanely hot and cold

Valid.

You see how those things can be said without adding the shit about what he's making on his name and likeness? This isn't the NFL (yet) where players are hired based on immediate performance. We're watching players come out of high school to play at a much higher level which means they must develop.

The "well, he's getting paid millions to perform" line isn't apt here. Sure, he might turn out to suck. Certainly fans will have and may state harsh opinions. The money doesn't have much to do with it unless you think a player is loafing due to wealth. That's not the case with Manning or many other players I've observed.

That really good pass rusher A&M got from Penn State last year is an example of a player making his money, putting together tape for his next job, and then loafing the rest of the season. Fuck that guy.

Actually I think we do get to bitch even more because they are being paid and some of them being very well paid.

I thought he looked better. He did account for 9.8 yards/att, over 300 total yards, and 5 TDs.. He still doesn’t trust himself over the middle of the field. That is where a lot of the off target throws are and where the turn downs have occurred. His pocket feel was really good. He is really helping the OL in pass protection. Easy mover

Agreed. Lots of growth in this game and more to come in the next couple of games.

Co-signed. He could’ve totally gone into a rut after the wingo drop, surprised that hasn’t been pointed out.  Wingo may have housed that if he caught it.

arch isn’t as polished as i thought the he would be but I think he’ll get there.  Lots of upside

Same face we all make when we see how off target the pass is. Someone check to see if he does it on good balls too.

Go ahead and provide a single screen shot, just one, where he made that face last year after hitting a WR on a cross in the feet. Hell, I'll do you one better, show me a screenshot when he hit a WR in the feet on a cross, OR made that face after a throw.

I'll hang up and listen.

I make that same face watching Steve Sarkisian against elite teams once his game plan doesn't work and his script runs out

I made the same face watching my son be told by the 3rd base coach to run on a wild pitch that bounced back from the wall to the catcher. Clearly I have a tumor.

I have to head coach this year because our parents were about to lose it with our first time head coach for getting our kids thrown out in this exact scenario.

Arch is not where we thought he would be at after 2 years of development.  Turns out young QBs who lack experience will look like it.  With that being said, there are positives about Arch's game that i like: his pocket presence and mobility.  Unfortunately, Arch needs to improve quickly if we want a shot at the playoffs.  However, I think Arch and the offense will get there eventually, just unsure if quick enough since the Oline, WRs and even RBs are still big question marks.

Yeah, way more worried about Sark's play calling and our complete lack of push on the O-line combined with our pedestrian RBs.  Know what helps out a young QB a whole bunch?  A really good running game.

He got us within 7 points of bama, and then it was all downhill and he was a total head case. Arch is giving head case energy with his extreme hot and cold. I think we have a much better staff now that isn't completely checked out, so they'll manage him better, but he's gotta get his head right.

It is bizarre seeing a crappy soft duck thrown with a wince, and the next down was an on-target dart

I really wanted to step in, but his team is hopeless when the second pitcher can’t reach the plate. My eldest wants to volunteer to coach them on base running.

Arch had 90 attempts coming into this year while Mac Jones had 143 coming into his year. Mac threw for 400+ yards in 3 out of his first 4 game and one was versus Georgia. I expected similar from Arch I guess the bowl game practices really do matter.

Mike Leach was great about having his players ready, even if it was their first year starting.

The Statesman asked Arch and Sark if Arch was injured after the game yesterday, and asked about the grimace Arch makes when he throws.

Arch Manning says he's not dealing with injury after grimacing in Texas vs San Jose State

By David Eckert,

Staff Writer Sep 6, 2025

Texas football quarterback Arch Manning said he wasn't dealing with any pain when he met with the media following the Longhorns' 38-7 victory Saturday over San Jose State.

The ABC broadcast showed Manning grimacing as he released a pass intended for Ryan Wingo over the middle that ended up well off target.

"I got to make that throw," Manning said when asked about the play and his facial expression thereafter. "He ran a good dig route, so I got to make that throw."

So what was with the grimace? Just something he does without realizing?

"Probably so," Manning said. "I don't even know."

Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian brushed aside a question about Manning's health, too.

"I don't know," he said. "News to me."

Manning improved upon his subpar showing last week against Ohio State, completing 19 of 30 passes against San Jose State for 295 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.

His four-touchdown showing matched his career high, equaling his four-TD mark after coming on in relief of Quinn Ewers against UTSA last season. He also rushed for an additional touchdown Saturday.

Manning was lifted in the fourth quarter with the Longhorns holding a 38-7 lead as the second-team offense entered. Though Sarkisian said the backup situation was "fluid," when asked about it earlier this week, he elected to go with the veteran Matthew Caldwell in garbage time. Caldwell completed two of his three passes for 22 yards.

Now there’s an apples to apples comparison to the all sec schedule Covid year and a team with Najee Harris at rb, the heisman winner at WR plus Waddle and Mechie. Not to mention a more experienced offensive line.

Just fucking brilliant.

Is there an arm injury that makes it easier to heave a 50 yard missile downfield than it is to toss the ball to a WR crossing about eight feet in front of you? He is having a very difficult time with that. It's like Bizarro Ewers.

Not to mention that his two deep balls were both long overthrows yesterday. Arm strength didn’t seem to be the issue.

I bet he really does have a shoulder issue. He's always doing that weird shoulder thing, but his throws just seem really off. That's on Sark for not addressing it, if it's indeed a shoulder issue. We should have seen what Owens and Lacey could do yesterday just for game experience as a break glass in case of emergency. My money is on Lacey.

IMO, neither does "being ready", or whatever terms we want to use. He's missing on what should be the easy stuff, by and large. Throwing 100 mph darts into the ground, intended for guys standing right next to him.

He scored five TDs yesterday so we're definitely nitpicking first world problems here, but it is odd.

I have to believe that's coming.  My guess would be we see that in Dallas, to totally show something OU has not seen all year.  Also, have we gone 4- 5 wide yet?  I dont recall us spreading out at all in the first two games.  Maybe we are waiting for Mosely to get back.  If/when we go 5 wide, we may be able to dink and dunk, mix in getting Arch on the run....perhaps that is part of not showing anything new until we get to the OU-UF stretch.  Just spitballing.

The shovel pass pick 6 before half was a killer, as was not punching in the first drive where got to the goal line.  Ifs and buts, honestly it could have been 14-0 Texas after our first two drives..  we snuffed out the fake punt and had good field position after going up 3-0

I don't think we've seen consistent great QB play under this coaching staff at all in the Sark era. yes we've seen flashes and big time play in certain games. Given the talent upgrade it's quite perplexing to say the least. I'll assume AJ Milwee fucking sucks at QB coach.

Didn’t Mac have 3 1st round WRs and a 1st round RB.. Not to mention a dominant OL. That was one of the best situations any QB has ever been dropped into. Not remotely comparable to this Texas team
