My Mom Jayne by Mariska Hargitay was pretty interesting. I didn’t know anything about Jayne Mansfield except big boobs before this.

I went down the Jayne Mansfield info rabbit hole a week or two ago and found out about her wreck and the subsequent law that passed afterwards.  This is known (or was back in the day) as the Mansfield Bar.

I don’t know how this got by me - because I try to watch any documentary of note - but there is a doc on Max called “Life of Crime 1984-2020” that is one of the realest and grittiest docs I’ve ever seen. The guy spends 36 years with three career criminals. There are Parts 1 and 2 as well if you want to see more content from the earlier years - but the latest “version” is the collection of everything and how it all ends. Absolutely heartbreaking and reminds you of those types of docs HBO used to commission back in the 80s. Absolute can’t miss.

I love love love documentaries like this and this is one of the best ones. I think about those three all the time. Heartbreaking really all around, and it’s amazing how much you start to care about them given how incredibly shitty they are as the thing opens up.

very different subjects, but Michael Apted’s Up series (starting with 7 Up) is the next best thing. Another episode is coming out soon. Curious if it will be the last, as he has died. Any other docs like this that follow people through their lives, I am absolutely interested in.
