Actually, Oscar got far enough forward that Antonelli should have left space but probably couldn't with Leclerc to his right. Racing incident.

Huh. Why not gamble with Max and let him try to stretch the mediums to the end of the race? At worst, he finishes 2nd. He has no chance pitting. I don't get it.

This has been the best race I've seen since the mixed conditions at Silverstone.

From a viewing enjoyment perspective I mean.

The starting grid pretty much guaranteed entertainment, but this has been much more than I expected.  Thought we'd get 15-20 laps of shakeout before the procession started but we're still racing all over the place 58 laps in.

Oscar may never recover from this season meltdown

If the season continues as it has the past couple of races, I'd be curious to know if there was another fall off as drastic.

Race 1: 9th
Races 2-16: 15 podiums, 7 wins
Races 17-21: Ret-4-5-5-5

In what's clearly still the most consistently fast car.

Today wasn't really his fault. Antonelli had a terrible start and the inside was open. I bet everyone would have tried. But the rest has been some pretty bad unforced errors.

How about a huzzah and a high five for Haas and Ollie Bearman?!?!  6th today following 4th in Mexico, 4th points finish in a row and 8th on the year.  He's currently in 12th with 40 points.  The best a Haas driver has ever finished is Magnussen at 9th with 56 points in 2018, followed by Hulkenberg in 11th with 41 last year.  Not sure he can get to that 56 mark, but I think/hope he gets to Top 10 for this season.

Lando continues to simply drive his car and not worry about the other variables which has served him very well the second half of the season.

Incredible how nothing can be simple with F1 as we get the 10 second penalty for Oscar which will be a talking point for the conspiracy fan base.

Unfucked his qualifying the second half of the year and with the best car and clean air he becomes Temu Max

I think Max would have gotten 2nd if he had stayed out.  Running down George killed his softs.  If not for the early puncture, he might have won the race.

It was a tough call - stay out with a chance to win but also risk missing the podium altogether, or pit and guarantee a podium finish. Still an amazing effort.

Max was about 7 seconds ahead of Lando and 13 ahead of Antonelli when he pitted with 17 laps left. Lando almost certainly runs him down--though not guaranteed--but I don't think Antonelli would have. He was lapping about half a second faster than Max at the time. Just a weird move when Max's only goal is another title. Seemed like a risk worth taking.

I get it but Max and his team seemed on the same page. Hard to argue against that.

That was pretty good stuff today. Max was awesome, and also Lando for not fucking it up. Ferrari must have sold their soul at some point. They just have no luck other than bad. Very good day for Mercedes too, especially Kimi. That was really cool for him to finish 2nd. It was fun seeing all the different cars up front, and Stroll in his usual spot.

Totally fair. I haven't gone back and listened to their team radio but very likely there's a "Mate, these tires aren't lasting another 20 laps" somewhere in there.

I can’t understand how/why these guys put wheels on the painted surfaces after rain. It’s been happening at Indy for decades. It’s been happening in F1. Put tires on wet painted surfaces and you lose the car. Such stupidity.

That Bortoletto crash was scary.

The Bortoleto crash was pretty, pretty wild. And yeah, I was telling my kid, too, that I just don't get anyone puitting their wheels on the kerbs or even just painted asphalt even after the rain has stopped. Just bizarre. Just don't do it.

Yeah, goooo Bear+Man. First Haas driver (really a Ferrari driver though) that I've ever rooted for.

Kimi Antonelli, too. Preeety nice.

Amazing how AM went from P6 in the sprint to completely uncompetetive and defenseless in the GP.

And Max. Just fucking wow. That was pretty special. Puncture and 3 stops after starting on the pit lane, and finishes P3? Pffft. Even he didn't see that coming.

ho lee fuk ...

Reminds me a little bit of the crash that killed Roland Ratzenberger. But I think the car in that crash came to a very sudden stop upon hitting the wall/fence.
