We were saying the same regarding humidity or lack thereof. We drove to Mission Concepcion, and saw some of those electric assist bikes there, so decided we’d rent some and ride down and back to the next closest mission. Whatever it got up to yesterday, it wasn’t bad at all relative to what it would been like in Houston. I wouldn’t have been able to convince my wife to do that in Houston’s humidity.

Stayed at the JW resort this weekend. Always a good time for the kids

Did Soluna (its the sister restaurant to Rosarios, and much better), La Fonda on Main (we always try to go here once a trip), DarkSide Pizza (if you havent seen or heard of this one, look it up. Its insane. Best themed restaurant in Texas), Alamo Springs Cafe (did this before we saw the bats at Old Tunnel State Park. The Cover burger was awesome but everything else was trash), had breakfast at La Panaderia (this gonna be the next big restaurant to franchise outta SA, its awesome every time), and had lunch at Tycoon Flats (great greasy spoon).

We try to visit at least once a year and every time we talk about moving from Houston. SA is just a better city in most respects. Little to no traffic, no humidity (we sat outside when it was 91 degrees and it felt like 80 degrees in Houston), great tacos, laid back feel, best childrens museum in Texas, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, SeaWorld, Zoo, Riverwalk, Pearl, <30 min from Castroville, Seguin, NB, and 2.5 hrs from a pretty solid beach.

The only reason we havent moved already is because im fairly convinced CenTex is gonna run outta water by 2030

Yall put some miles in, JW to downtown out to Boerne

Btw.  My comment about nightlife is probably pretty off because I'm 54. My 34 yr old date last night told me about 300 bars I've never heard of so maybe its bettter than I said.

And for the single dudes.  Despite the fact that there are a TON of tortas there is still plenty of hot ass to be found

Soluna is the sister restaurant to El Mirasol not Rosario's. Rosario's and Acenar are owned by the same owner.

The nightlife obviously isn’t Austin but there are maybe 3 -5 cities in the US that are. There is a growing and solid bar scene. SA has multiple great live music spots as well. The Stable Hall at the Pearl is an awesome venue.

Im 40 and live in Alamo Heights. There is plethora of bars and restaurants within 5 miles, we are never in a shortage of places to go.

Yeah we went with a friend for her birthday a few years ago and the wife and I definitely felt like it wasn’t our crowd at 32-34 either haha

I just spent all of my 20s in the SA dating/nightlife scene. If you’re someone that age dating is truly terrible compared to Austin/Dallas/Houston. And I say that as a very fit, tall for SA guy that had no problems finding dates. I once went on a date with a doctor that was saying it was really difficult dating as a woman like that because of how few men there were in town that made anything close to her salary or even close to six figures. Which I had never thought about but the stats support it.
No one hot goes out to St Mary’s street. That’s literally just for fat poor people and wannabe goths. There’s probably 4 or 5 nice bars in town for an attractive single person. You also have to add in the fact that every year a handful or more of people out at bars get killed by stray bullets here and its really not worth it. SA has a lot going for it in other areas, but if you’re young and looking for nightlife or that kind fun it’s probably the worst city I can think of.

You should give that list to Helobious.  Sounds like he could use the help.

I like Toro downtown. Pretty good vibe and tapas, plus hidden door bar downstairs is cool to check out. Also add the bar at the Havana to @LebongJames otherwise great list.

The Bonham is huge. I don't see that being a problem.

We are taking a weekend trip to Houston with our boys (9 & 7) soon and my wife wants to book an 10:30am Saturday brunch at a trendy Italian restaurant downtown because she says “brunch seems like a big deal in Houston” and I’m glad I don’t live there anymore but afraid to object too loudly because it’s clear she just wants to do some unreasonable shit and briefly escape a hotel room that smells like farts even if that fucks up one of two mornings on the trip.

Wrong thread, Hondo. Houston is a few more hours east on I-10.

Have been to Toro once and had a great time - really enjoyed the food and the scene. Not from SA so can’t comment on the others.

I had lunch at the Purple Garlic yesterday. It is a pretty solid Italian café. Anyone been here?

I haven’t but I had a customer tell me all about it. Guess I need to give it a shot.

Oxbow secured the funding today for what will now be called The Perlen House Hotel right across the river from Hotel Emma. Between that, Otto’s and the 3 multifamily projects Oxbow is working on that area has and will be completely changed in the next 2 years.

The Pearl will eventually push to St Mary’s. I’m interested to see what all the development and change does to the area, especially for employment.

Had it today. It was fine. Not better than Canes and it’s from Fayettenam.

Their tenders are chewy as fuck because they're overcooked. Place is a shit version of Zaxbys
