I agree. But I just mean in terms of getting some groove back. Winning the series would work, but a sweep could really get some mojo

Good Lord. Next, you’ll be telling me that you’re useless without it.

Considering the number of teams already with 11 losses (several of which Texas holds the H2H tiebreaker over) and Tennessee/Vandy having a matchup upcoming, it feels like Texas can’t finish any lower than 5th if I’m doing the quick math correctly.

Top 4 gets the double bye in Hoover IIRC.

8-0 third game. Gata for the sweep.

Gata was swept by Tennessee, Alabama and Vanderbilt at the start of the season.

Since then we have gone 10-2 in the SEC and won 4 series in a row, including one from a perked up piggy.

Now we come to your place after your unhappy series versus pig.   I’m not looking forward to that much.  I hope we can keep it respectable.

I think if Texas plays well, it will be a 2-1 series for Texas. If we play like we did against Arky, yall will take the series.

Quite the jumble really from third to 12th in the SEC standings. Does the SEC get 14 teams in? That seems a little too much.

If it's only 13 teams are getting in all of sudden Kentucky looks to have a problem because they just got swept by Mississippi State.

Aggy and MSU still have a series left with hapless Missouri, who gave Georgia a scare this weekend, but remain winless in the SEC.

Florida has risen from their early terrible start to a half game clear in 11th place, but finish with Texas and at home to Alabama, not easy

Kentucky finishes with OU at home and then at Bama, so no walk in the park either. They lost the series to Aggy and the MSU sweep hurts against those teams.

Aggy looks pretty good with the series win over LSU, but what if they say swept Missouri, but got swept at Georgia and maybe finished in 14th somehow. Aggy was one of the last four teams in before this weekend.

Mississippi State has been on the bad side of getting in the NCAA Tourney for a long time but were one of the last 4 teams out coming into this weekend, but maybe not now. They go to Ole Miss next weekend for a big series before finishing with Missouri.

Lots of things to be decided in the last two conference series from teams 1-14.

I think it’s as simple as 3 teams (UK, A&M and Mississippi State) are 10-14 and two of them play Missouri over the next two weeks and the other (Kentucky) doesn’t.

That is who is likely to be left out. 13 SEC teams get in.

I still don’t quite understand what South Carolina was thinking when they hired Mainieri last year.

I’m sure he’ll get a second season but he’s about to be 68 and there is no excitement around that program.

And what of Florida that is 11-13 and has Texas and Alabama left.

They could easily go 2-4 or even worse, then what.

MSU has a rivalry series with a good Ole Miss team on the road and Aggy has to go to Georgia which is 27-3 at home on the season.

It is not far from the realm of possibility that MSU or Aggy or both could still go 3-3 in their last six SEC games, which Kentucky could match.

Georgia at #1 is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever seen. These voters should be ashamed. Fucking pathetic. Little league team that struggled with Mizzou and got swept by the team they just jumped and trail by 5 games in the SEC. Nobody with a brain actually thinks that Georgia team will sniff a title this year, they are total and complete frauds.

Much of the SEC is likely overrated this season.

The conference is missing a lot of the big boppers of the last few years. There is also probably a bigger conversation to be had about hitting because home runs are down across the board and several coaches have commented they think the balls aren't flying as far as previous seasons.

I was just looking this morning and 11 of the 16 teams are hitting under .270 in SEC play. Arkansas is the only team over .287. Georgia was seen as this offensive juggernaut a month ago and they are hitting .252 in conference play.

So, they punish us for our sweep by putting us behind a team that we swept.

Hmmmm..... okay then.

I think the pitching has gotten better.

Texas has gotten big contributions from 3-4 guys who would be pitching in other conferences prior to NIL. I'm sure the other teams in the league are similar. SEC pays top dollar for 18-22 yo baseball prospects so the arm talent is condensed to a level the bats have to catch up to, similar to what we are seeing in MLB

I don’t think they had a clue who to put at #1, so they just bumped Ga to the top spot for giggles!  I mean, at this point, does it matter?

Agreed with both points.

Selection Monday is going to be really interesting. I bet there’s a lot of disconnect between the weekly polls and the regional seeds.

I would bet they are almost directly correlated to RPI. If I remember correctly the last couple years it was almost just the RPI top 16

Thanks. Like everybody else we’re still dealing with injuries from the start of the year, and hopefully we’ll have a little bit more depth in our pitching as a few of the injured guys get healthy.

I would feel better about the series if you hadn’t had that Arkansas experience. Y’all are gonna be boiling mad and trying to reclaim that number one.  No bueno por gata

That is always their default. When you have a committee full of athletic directors who haven't seen Cal Poly or Oregon State or UConn play one time, they just default to the easiest metric to use.

I'll take your word for it, I don't pay that much attention (or at least commit it to memory).  Current RPI:

1.  UGA

2.  Texas

3.  Vandy

4.  Auburn

5.  Arkansas

If the season ended today, I can’t see UGA being the top overall seed. I also don’t think they’ll have SEC straight top-five. However, I do think it’ll mirror RPI more than the weekly polls.

I think we can give up 33 free passes and still win series.

RPI will still change as we get nearer the end. If we win out and they don’t I think we would be RPI #1. @Hookem2147 may have more insight on that.

Regardless UGA at 1 is dumb right now.

Here is what RPI looks like with the points that are separating the teams. For reference, we only lost about 10 RPI points for each loss this weekend (-30 total). You are penalized much more for home losses, so I would imagine we would lose around 30 points for any loss this upcoming weekend, while gaining 15-20 RPI points for any win.

Vandy and Auburn are ahead of Pig in the RPI but trail Pig by 3 and 4 games in the conference, respectively.

The conference season has comprised roughly half the total games.  The conference schedule is heavily weighted as to how the team is playing now versus early season tourneys.

The RPI has Uga has them ahead of teams they trail by 2 and 4 in the conference.

UCF did fall behind other Big 12 teams but is still roughly 25 spots ahead of Houston in spite of a worse overall record and 4 games worse in the Big 12.  BYU is ahead of Baylor with a worse record and trailing them by 3.

Mizzou went 0-4 and dropped 3 spots.

When I last looked at the KPI, it reflected better in my opinion.  Conference records are more convoluted now with unbalanced schedules, but it’s a bit eye catching when conference records don’t align with RPI.  Nevermind that Arkansas handled us far better than any other team.  Hell, they beat us by more runs a game than some got in a series against us.

I think the polls should leave #1 blank.  I can't see any team deserving it right now.

I think we do. And if we dont, Arkansas does. This isnt rocket science. We have the best resume by far in the hardest conference. Our only blemish is a sweep on the road to the #2 team. Other than that, you couldnt have dreamed for a better record to this point.
