Doubt that matters this year. Hes your every day starter at third the rest of this season. At least he’s a decent glove. Has another year of control as well. Still an absolute snoozer. If this is it for the deadline, we can go ahead and fast forward to 2026

It's so we can move Dubon around as needed. Depth thing. Snark aside, it's fine.

I actually like it a lot.

It's crazy to me how surly continually shits on Dubon but ignores how utterly fucked we'd be this year without him.

If the Astros are seriously chasing Cease, they better have actual doctors and not their own medical staff overseeing the physical.

I don’t trust a team that’s currently in the playoffs trying to move a guy that finished 4th in the Cy Young last year and 2nd two years before that.

I don't think it's if.

Urias could absolutely allow them to move Dubon in a Cease deal.
Cease deal could be something like: Dubon, Caratini and Melton for Cease. The Astros would still be under the CBT. They could then move something like Blubaugh or Gordon or Gusto for Mullins and $3M. That team is under the tax and your playoff roster likely would be:

Diaz, Walker, Altuve, Pena, Urias, Trammel, Mullins, smith, Yordan

9 best arms: Framber, Brown, Cease, Hader, Abreu, Arrighetti, Javier, Garcia, Sousa

tbats a roster that can win the World Series this year. The only piece that might be important that you gave up to accomplish that would be Melton. That’s a fair trade to me.
that deadline wouldn’t be as sexy as Correa but it would be effective.

Pretty sure they'll want Yainer, not Victor.

And not just this year. Fans can rag on him if they wish, and I get it sometimes...but Dubon started paying dividends the season we got him and still does. Every title team needs a Swiss Army knife, and I'd much prefer to keep him around.

The Houston Astros added a utility infield option on Wednesday, acquiring Ramon Urias from the Baltimore Orioles, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Baltimore reportedly is receiving minor league right-hander Twine Palmer in return, according to the source.

Urias, 31, has spent his entire six-year major league career with the Orioles. He won a Gold Glove Award in 2022 at third base, where he has seen the most action, but he also has extensive experience at second base and shortstop, plus some time at first base.

The Mexico native is hitting .248 with a .300 on-base percentage, a .388 slugging percentage, eight homers and 34 RBIs in 77 games this season. Over his career, he has hit .259/.324/.404 with 47 home runs and 205 RBIs in 506 games.

Palmer, 20, posted a 2-0 record and a 2.13 ERA in 13 games (eight starts) for Class-A Fayetteville this year. The Astros selected him in the 19th round of the 2024 draft out of an Oklahoma junior college.

The New York Post was first to report the trade.

Rome:

Urías raises the floor of a depleted Astros roster and strengthens one of the sport's best run prevention machines. Only four infields entered Wednesday worth more outs above average than Houston's — a byproduct of moving Jose Altuve to left field and signing three-time Gold Glove first baseman Christian Walker this offseason.

Urías has been worth three outs above average at third base this season, according to Baseball Savant. According to Sports Info Solutions, he's been worth six defensive runs saved. Playing Urías primarily third base would put him alongside Gold Glove shortstop Jeremy Peña, who could return from the injured list on Friday when the Astros open a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.

Presuming Urías and Peña comprise the left side of the infield, Houston could shift Mauricio Dubón — a utility Gold Glove winner — to second base, where rookies Brice Matthews and Shay Whitcomb have been splitting playing time.

Correa makes no business sense. What would be the business incentive for bringing Correa back? So I can now wear my 2017 Correa jersey again? No new merch sales at all would happen. Not at least 30 million per year. Hard pass.

The baseball side is what makes less sense, but it makes ABSOLUTE 1000% SENSE from a business/marketing perspective. Correa is still popular with most Astros fans despite leaving for the bag.

I'm surprised that no surly poster has bitched yet about how great Twine Palmer is and how we gave away too much.

He's good, but he's not Korey Lee good.

We already own Correa merch. Merch, when at the time, now has nostalgia to it. There are only X amount of home games left, the 30+ million Correa is owed (for the next 5ish years) makes no business common sense. His athletic/clubhouse arbitrary value does not bring dollars to the team.

Since Crane fired Luhnow and started putting his thumb more on the scale, the Astros have returned to the ways of Drayton McLane.

And won a second World Series in the process.

As a fan of the Colt .45’s and the Astros for over 60 years, I take that trade any day of the week.
