Suns are not a serious franchise. But I think we all knew that already.

I eagerly await the next chapter of Beal’s career being spent playing alongside Harden and Leonard. Can’t imagine what might go sideways there.

After this upcoming year, OKC is going to have probably 170,000,000 tied up in 3 players. Gonna be interesting what happens to them after this upcoming year

Chet 5/250
Shai 4/284
JDub will be another rookie max extension

But the Thunder won't spend money!!!!

I don't pretend to know the cap/apron thing but they have some team friendly deals with the supporting cast plus all of the draft picks.  Hartenstein is at $30M for two more years but that second year is a team option.

It's crazy that Chet and J Dub were the same draft....

Di you think that will be enough to hire a barber?

All I know is if you start 2 consecutive years above the 2nd apron threshold your first round picks are frozen for like 7 straight years. Thats why teams like Boston, MN and PHX have traded stars for cheaper role players

So zero trade capital besides players

I’m not sure that’s 100% right but I think it’s along those lines. Getting Chet and JDub production out of 20M combined is unheard of. Thanks clippers

J Dub was their 3rd pick in that draft.

Even I forget that sometimes.  Dieng was before him.  He doesn't play much but still has some upside, especially at his age.

J Dub was one of the Clipper picks and if I remember right, the pick got bumped up because the Clippers were playing in a play in game and Paul George got covid at the last minute and they lost.  Could be wrong about that, though.

Same thing that happened to the Nuggets, Wolves and Celtics.

It's kind of the whole point of the new CBA.  You can have 2 or 3 stars but it really rewards the front offices and GM's who can scout young talent.  The days of loading up the roster with overpriced vets may be over.  You can have a core 3 but you'd better hit on your draft picks and a few FA signings.

Presti has already done the math on the outlying years and can figure out who he needs to move.  Everyone is under contract for next season but after that, you'll see some moves.

It's easy to remember the Bulls teams as being Jordan and Pippen but if you look back, the entire roster besides them turned over between the two three peats.  I suspect in 4-5 years, OKC will turn over everyone except those three.

I think the days of a Big 3 reigning over the league for multiple years are effectively over. Once you pay those guys you have to pretty much hit on everything else and hope none of the top three get hurt/slump/ceiling out early.  OKC may prove me wrong but Boston looked unbelievable 12 months ago too.

Scout young talent*

* for other teams to poach because you do too good of job drafting and can’t afford them and your other stars you drafted

And then trade that young talent for draft picks/future assets.  (Cason Wallace next season.)

You're not going to hit on all the draft picks, I get that, but they seem to hit on a lot more than they miss.

Not that loosely.

Great player playing for a shitty org.

Very good individual scorer.   Does almost nothing else to help a team win.

I mean that's fair. I'm just saying he's at least borderline.

I mean that flat out isn't true but I'm sure you know that. 2.0+ AST/TOV the past two seasons as a 2 guard.

He had a bad year but like I said he is surrounded by dysfunction. He isn't dragging anyone to the conference finals anytime soon like Luka or Giannis but if he is basically a 2nd option like he was in '23 or surrounded by a competent roster like he was in '21 he's pretty lethal.

Would like to see him outside of PHO.

Dude - I don't draft the CBA or negotiate media deals or set the cap.

That 70 figure kicks in in 2028.

If you think Book isnt worth the max number - for Phoenix, especially - then I can't help you.

Posted (edited)

In Phoenix's defense, hanging onto Booker in no way deters their short term plans of being exceptionally terrible at basketball in hopes of landing some good picks.

PHX should've traded Booker this past season to Houston, received a similar haul  and instead of 5 seconds, gotten their picks back and then some. theyre going to be stuck in the worst spot in the NBA. between 32-40 wins, and picking 9th-14th in the lottery.

maybe 40 wins is generous since their top 6 paid players are shooting guards

... For the Rockets and Wizards...

... And Jazz in 2031...

Washington holds the Suns swaps in 26, 28 and 30, Houston gets their 1st in 27 and 29, and Utah gets their 2031. None of these picks have protections on them for the Suns.

However, Washington might be pretty terrible on their own, so the swaps may not hurt that much, but it negates the Suns from winning the lottery. The best case scenario for them would be both those picks getting 1-2 in the lottery and they would automatically get the 2nd pick. Highly unlikely though.

Extending Booker makes sense, because he's going to have to be traded at some point in the near future. The more guaranteed years he has, the more they can ask for him. Send him to some starved for talent franchise like Charlotte or NOLA for a big haul and start over in 2027.

He was a glue guy for the US Men's basketball team in Paris. A better Derrick White than Derrick White

good lord. That rosters gonna be so different after this year.

So what? Go all-in when you can win realistically win a(nother) championship. Only took OKC 13 years to grasp that.

oh im not faulting them. I think itll drastically change when those extensions kick in tho. Just shows what rare air theyre in right now with Chet, Jdub and Shai making like 56M combined this year

It's easy to forget that the Bulls roster in the second three peat was completely different from the first.  Jordan and Pippen were the only players on both.  They turned over the entire roster except them.

I suspect that 3-4 years from now, OKC will be the same.  The main three will be there but everyone else will be different.

Let's tone the smugness down a little bit, please. Michael Jordan isn't on your team and you just got taken to 7 in two series  and debatably needed a torn Achilles to get you the title.

SGA sure as shit isn’t Jordan and even starting to comp Williams to Pippen makes my brain hurt.

Don't forget about Scott Foster in the Denver series and game 4 of the Indiana series.

"He is pretty special," Pippen told ESPN. "I'm enjoying watching him. I see a lot of me in him for sure. I see a guy rising to be one of the top players in this league. He's definitely a player that is capable of being able to lead that franchise to multiple championships -- him and Shai, of course."

Bronny and Flagg in iso - Bronny actually plays some pretty good D - jars the ball loose but gets called for a foul.

Dallas inbounds the ball right back to Flagg. He wastes zero time and hits a 19 foot turnaround straight in Bronny's face.

This kid is a fucking savage.

He also tried to bang on someone from like 10 feet out - I thought he got fouled but they let it go.

He's going to put up 20 in his sleep next season.

Oh well that settles it then.

Well, you asked.

I'm not saying OKC are the 90's Bulls.  My point is rosters turn over so everyone with "OMG what are the Thunder going to do" takes don't realize rosters turn over.  Look at the various Spurs teams, for another example.  They had a core and everyone else came and went.

They could just rotate 3 & D guys and a big man around the main 3 and that works.  That's essentially what they had this season.

Dude shut the fuck up.
