Aside from fan enjoyment, to me, Texas has nothing to gain from Army/Navy as their big OOC matchup. We would be favored by a shit-ton and if we cover it doesn’t do anything for us. Plus, it seems like their specialized offenses give some heavily favored P4 team a real scare or defeat every year and it wouldn’t help to prepare us for future SEC games. It would be cool as shit but not as the big name preseason OOC marquee opponent.

Oregon / FSU / Miami for me. UNC with Belichick on the sideline would be cool too.

So what's actually going on with Goosby? OTF went from saying it was nothing, to hinting he may not be available week 1.. from a finger caught in a jersey?

Yeah, a little too cute for comfort on Coffee and Football. Hedged pretty good, and then went through some alternative OL lineups with Goosby.

Second hand info, but I’ve heard he should be available maybe in a soft cast.

Like I said, there’s a good shot he doesn’t play against OSU. His hand isn’t in a cast and allegedly nothing is broken. It got wrenched and they had to pull things back into place. It’s a pain tolerance and effectiveness thing. They’re worried enough to be moving everyone else around to see if there’s a lineup that isn’t hideous without him.

My hand got slammed between two tacklers’ face masks once and I dislocated a finger. A phalange was sitting on top of the next bone. The solution? Bite a fucking towel and pull while the doctor pulls in the other direction until the bone slips back into place. That shit hurt for a week and still gives me problems 35 years later. But I never missed a game and I caught passes for my damned program. If Goosby isn’t out there on 8/30, I’ll be judging him.

My son put on the pads for the first time in his life today playing football in 7th grade. I can only hope and dream he sticks with it through high school so he can randomly entertain degenerates in 2060 on whatever version of message boards exit then. At that time, if I’m still alive, I will be as old as Army Brat is now. I can’t even imagine the tech fails that wait for me in that point and time.
if we are all alive will Sydney be able to spell online by then? To be determined. Helo will still be an idiot though, I’m sure.

There is basically a 0% chance I’ll be around. But I am cheering for all of you.

I am going to my autistic sophomore’s scrimmage tomorrow night. He finds some sort of peace inside a helmet, so I’m cheering for him. Scary as a parent, though.

A lot can happen in 35 years man. Who knows. You won’t even be 90 yet will you?  Bet the over.
personally, I’m going to die in a sex tent just shy of 100 years old chasing my wife around in a failed attempt to celebrate Texas’ 10th national title in my lifetime. I can’t see any other conceivable way that it might go. Certainly not a major traffic accident or the like where I lose a vehicular collision with a piece of the roadway. That can’t happen twice.

A neutral site is not out of the question for a game like that. Good for both brands I would think. Preferably Navy so I could watch them lose.

Wouldn’t that be fun to play one of them though?

What was it, maybe 5 years ago they went to ou to play. Put that video out where the players cleaned up their own locker room. Pretty cool stuff.

Most of us recall Simms dislocating his finger on a (Mizzou?) helmet.  Same as your story, they popped it back in and on he went.  I guess there's a fair amount of adrenaline/endorphin/etc. flowing to mitigate the pain, though.

Huh. So it actually is more serious than was let on, and that wasn’t just random tinkering on the first team OL 11 days before the season opener. I bet all those neanderthals on OTF are getting their apologies ready.

I feel like people are overrating the fuck out of Clemson.

I think they'll be good - I don't think they're a national title contender.

Personally, I think it’s too high profile of a game for Goosby to sit out. If this is his contract year, he must play. Maybe he plays 30-35 snaps and splits with Chatman? I could live with that.

I had a great convo with Dan Neil one day and he told me about playing in the NFL. He was small and I couldn’t figure out how he had those rings on his fingers as a starter. Granted, he had lost a lot of weight after retirement.

Anyway, he told me that (paraphrasing) a game has 60 snaps on offense:
1. half don’t go his way so he just has to “get in the way” of his man
2. Some other portion he has help blocking his guy
3. Some other portion he just has to hold his block for a quick out or slant or whatever
4. 10 or so plays: he had to man up, dominate, drive his guy back, whatever.

I always thought that was interesting. Maybe applies here in some capacity - I don’t know.

Nebraska. Popped it back into place on the sideline.

He broke the record for passing yards in a game at 419. Nebraska's home record in their last 75 games became 73-2.

I'm three months late, but had to chime in to rep what might be the most unexpected stray ever caught on the internet. Fatty Arbuckle?! Fucking savage, bro. Poor guy was acquitted, too.

Also jumped in to comment on what I heard on Todd McShay's show today. I know next to nothing about 2025 OU and saw he was previewing them, so listened out of curiousity. And wow, was I not expecting the wet, gushing tongue fucking McShay gave Venables.

When he wasn't glowingly recounting some male bonding experience with Venables (something about almost getting bowled over by him on the field after a Clemson win), McShay propagandized this roster as if they are the best team in the country. Per McShay's sources aka his buddies on the staff,  Mateer is bigger, stronger Baker Mayfield and 10 times better than they expected him to be. Then he said something along the lines of: "OU has the best Dline in the SEC, but the DB room is actually the best on the team."

I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me a bit nervous. Really hope McShay is loud wrong and has to eat shit on this take.

Simms ruptured his spleen in the NFL and kept playing.

People can have all the opinions they want regarding Simms. I'll disagree with most of them, in all likelihood.

But the accusation he was soft always pisses me off the most. Chrissy Simms. What a load of horse shit.

Quote

During the Buccaneers’ Week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers, Simms found himself in serious trouble after absorbing a big hit. While he tried to play through the pain—the quarterback wanted to make amends for his poor start to the season and lead his team to victory—that proved to be a mistake.

“I thought that maybe I had a broken rib that was like puncturing my lung,” Simms explained on “PFT Live with Mike Florio.” “That’s what I was thinking throughout the game because I could not catch my breath [and] I was uncomfortable in my abdomen the whole time.”

Simms’ injury, however, was much worse; he ruptured his spleen and started bleeding internally. The quarterback even began to blackout on the field, but went into the locker room, received some intravenous fluids, and returned to the action. After the game, though, everything clicked.

“When I was sitting on the sideline for the last drive, watching [Carolina] get in field goal position, my thought went, ‘damn, am I bleeding internally?” Simms continued. “I couldn’t even stand anymore.”

And it still somehow took an interception inside the five to close it down. That’s back when their fans were still friendly.

Sort of? The hate was already there among a bunch of them. Osborne made some comments about Texas running things when the conference championship game was scheduled over Nebraska's objections, the league office was moved from Kansas City to Dallas, the SWC commissioner was named the commissioner for the Big 12, enrolling prop 48 players was disallowed and corn fed beef could no longer be served as brisket.

They did give Ricky Williams a standing ovation in 1998.

But yeah, there's full fledged hate now. You see it in volleyball a ton, too. I know volleyball is a big deal at Texas, but it's insanity level in Nebraska. Hence the attendance world record for women's sports. And they hate Texas. Coaches have been known to get divorced over it.

So Mateer looks like superman against the OU defense, which is itself a better version of the 2000 Ravens... scares you to death.
