Just my two cents, but perhaps targeting just one road game as THE tailgate each season may yield better traffic, (playoffs not withstanding).

Previously, the marquee road game to circle was somewhat obvious (USC, ND, Arky, Bama, Michigan, etc). Now this year you had tOSU, Florida, Georgia, and so on and the new SEC schedule is gonna be similar going forward.

I’m planning on Knoxville next year but I know many will prioritize or also go to LSU. Either way, you shouldn’t kill yourself to get a tailgate off the ground.

And can always keep it simple like taking over a bar in Fayetteville.

There were 10k+ longhorns in Gainesville. This should have easily been 600 and pushing 1k.

I don't run some slapdick setup. I take the highest end revelxp setup and take it to the next level. There are few tailgates in the entire country outside of some NFL ones that are doing things like me and they have entire teams and it's their full time job.

For sure — the Bama and Michigan setups, not to mention the huge UW Sugar Bowl party, were beyond awesome. Selfishly I’d hate for you to spread yourself too thin or work yourself to (figurative) death and lose them altogether.

The problem is we rely on word of mouth and people telling their friends to come. For whatever reason everyone is just in their own world now. We are at a point now where I'm tired of having to do everything and then the marketing on top when it should be a no brainer for people to want to come.

Its a good deal, even when I'm making money its not crazy margins especially for the effort. Florida was the first one that hasn't sold out and it only needed to sell 400 to break even with capacity for 600.

I think what hurts attendance at a place like Florida (or TN next year) is a lot of people are making the trip for the first time and want to take in and walk around the campus, drink and eat in local restaurants/bars and otherwise experience from that perspective vs. a tailgate with longhorns.  Most I know that went to Florida didn't stay in Gainesville so only experienced campus area pregame.  I think you would have had better attendance at Florida had it been a night game as people could have done both.

Our tailgates facilitate literally all of that. We are in the heart of everything. It's fucking stupid to not grab a few beers hang with horns and then go for a walk within 5 minutes of where you can get more beers and grab food when you want it and take a sit down break.

Sorry I'm not going to let you tell me eating at a shitty restaurant packed out on gameday next to the stadium with a limited shit menu and waiting 20 minutes for drinks and then aimlessly wandering around isn't better than the experience I put together for people. It just isn't.

Honestly I think that is part of your problem.  You are taking on WAY too much yourself.  I got stressed just reading your tailgate recap from Gainesville.  You need a team of AT LEAST 7-10 to delegate responsibilities to.  It is commendable what you do, but dude, you need help to pull it off.

A team of 5 is more than enough.

I'm not telling you that you are wrong and I have no doubt it was a great setup. I'm just trying to offer advice given lack of sales. I've attended several of yours and can attest to how solid they are.  But I'm just letting you know that nobody in the group we were with had interest in a Texas specific tailgate on that trip as everyone wanted to check out the Gainesville vibe.  I think if it were a night game and people thought there would have been enough time to do both, your ticket sales would have reflected that.

I mean we did a Gainesville vibe that's literally what we did. I think people just didn't know about it tbh.

I think the weather scared a shit ton of people off from coming out early because they saw rain and didn't realize it was drizzle.

and once you don't come out before 10ish then $130 doesn't seem like a good deal which is why $60 all you can drink i think would have crushed.

Bringing up previous conversation, but with your mentioning that they made you cater with the school, how would a “requirement” like that affect your mobile tailgate concept?

Would they have allowed for cooking yourself?

Hindsight is 20/20, but I wish I had done the Florida tailgate. Would have likely been the highlight of the trip.

Most everyone who went has told me this exact thing.

Still pissed off about that game but moving on . . .

Same, it was my first time in Gainesville, first time tailgating with Surly, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Got there at 8am and started drinking with my buddy who had never been or seen tailgating. What was weird was despite it being parents weekend, the Florida fans weren't out either. Hoping immamac reconsiders next year.
