Starting a thread for game in Lexington October 18th. A few of us mentioned going on the main Surly Tailgate thread. Assuming there is no official Surly tailgate, we may do something smallish if enough people are interested. Still working through logistics.

FYI - UK made the Texas game Parents' Weekend and Homecoming. I guess because it overlaps with the horse races. Hotels are in short supply.

Fun things to do Friday or Saturday before game:

Keeneland Fall Meet https://www.keeneland.com/

Beautiful horse race track that the locals really get into. Great tailgating outside the track. You'll probably find more students here than a UK football game. The races sell out. Tickets go on sale August 19.

Kentucky Bourbon Trailhttps://kybourbontrail.com/

Enough said.

Visit a Horse Farmhttps://www.visitlex.com/listing/gainesway-farm/7896/    https://www.visitlex.com/listing/visit-horse-country/7324/

There are several to choose from, but not all are open to the public. Link is to Gainsway which is spectacular. If nothing else, drive through horse country. If you're flying into SDF (Louisville) exit onto Old Frankfort Pike Road from I64.

Horse Auctionshttps://www.fasigtipton.com/locations/kentucky

If you are around on Monday after the game, the Fasig-Tipton Sales start. Always fun to watch someone spend $1M on a one year old horse.

If you are flying into Louisville (Southwest added non-stop flights from AUS) visit Muhammad Ali or Louisville Slugger museums.

Numerous breweries, golf courses, and hiking trails if that's your thing.

And an error from the other page...

Blue GRASS Parkway is a relatively short but fantastic longer way in from Louisville but an incredible drive.

Since I'm on about cars, it is a hike from Lexington but the Corvette Museum is down in Bowling Green. You could hit it on the way from Nashville to Lexington if you choose to visit Nashville on the trip.

If you want to make a longer trip out of it Nashville is about a 3 hr drive to Lexington. Unfortunately, Titans are playing away that Sunday. There will be far more flight options into Nashville. Since I'm on flight options Cincinnati is 2 hrs so its a 3rd option. All 3 will be scenic drives but Nashville and Cincinnati are largely Interstate to Lexington.

Yes, recommend Blue Grass Parkway if you have the time. Old Frankfort Pike is good if coming from Louisville and are short on time. Taking Old Frankfort Pike is about the same as driving I-64 all the way to Lex.

Do you think many people will be flying in from Australia?

Kentucky is know for bourbon, horses and hillbilly hijinx which is two thirds of the fuel that drives Aussies. So, invariably.
