Eh, sort of. Problems in the game:

1-10. Arch's accuracy.

11.  Receiver separation

12. Redzone play calling

13. Penalties

If Arch hits the broadside of a barn, this a fairly comfortable win and nothing else seems like a big deal.

Arch just makes the lay-ups it’s a different game.

I'm gonna guess that CDC is and has been gently prodding Sark about these issues.  That seems to be the way he rolls.  No ultimatums or anything.  "Steve, have you thought about  . . ?"

Sark will never give up playcalling. we will have to fire him.

Rewatching the game now and what the hell was up with the slip n slide on the field? We had guys slipping all over the place and Ohio State had some too.

It impacted several plays in the first half. Didn’t notice it as much in the second half.

The fucking crazy thing is his poor mechanics. I watched “the film guy” episode on Arch recently and he raved about his footwork and how he connected his lower body to his upper body. It’s on film! It’s almost as if he completely forgot how to play qb.

Yeah it was really jarring. It's not like Ewers where they looked bad from day 1 and just kind of never got fixed. I have never seen Arch's feet die or throw sidearmed like he did yesterday. Issues with timing, decision making, sure. Seen that before and expected more of the same. Standard young QB stuff.

Chernobyl-level meltdown with loss of physical ability to throw a football for three full quarters? That was one of the stranger things I've ever seen on a football field.

Only two things about this game separated the result we got (14-7 Loss) from the result we wanted (Texas blows out the sad nuts):

  1. Drive-extending penalties
    • Sad nuts failed to convert on 3rd down, but got 15 yards because of a stupid hands to the face penalty. They eventually scored on a CJ Donaldson run, and we spotted 'em an additional 10 yards because of a Malik Muhammad hold. Cost: 7 points
  2. Short yardage erectile dysfunction
    • First drive, near midfield, couldn't get 2 yards to extend the drive and put us in FG range. Cost: 3 points or more
    • Start of the 2nd half, Defense held the sad nuts to a 3 and out, we march down the field, and can't punch it in from the 1 yard line. Cost: 7 points
    • Nuts had just scored to start the 4th quarter, we march down the field, and once again can't find the end zone. Cost: 7 points
    • Final drive of the game, defense responded to our last impotent drive by forcing a 3 and out, after a deep punt, Arch gets us to midfield, but once again can't move the chains. Cost: 3 points or more

If those two things had been fixed, we were on track for anything from a 27-7 to a 35-7 game, and that doesn't even take into account how much the trajectory of the game would have been impacted by Arch gaining confidence, quieting the crowd, and other scoring options opening up due to adjustments they felt like they'd had to have made. Maybe Sayin wouldn't have had the confidence to find Tate on that incredible 3rd quarter catch, either. Lots of coulda, woulda, shoulda.

The point I'm making here is how much these little things can totally alter the outcome of a game.

I might feel that way if our QB didn’t look like hammered dog shit today…

I really think he'll be fine. We just honestly need him to be average at the point, and our defense will do the rest. He has 3 games to work through and then we can see how makes a jump.

Well, if you're Sark, it's a game of 10 yards!

This is what bothers me about Sark. He more than anyone should've been aware of these issues and should've fixed them but didn't.

Mechanics were bad and tOSU was ready, knew the routes and balled out on defense with nfl caliber disguises and the best player in college football - Caleb downs - manipulating arch at will and seeing the run calls a mile away with enough time to abandon pass coverage and crash the box.   Arch was late too, he tried to go through progressions but the game is still a bit too fast for him.

Sark needs to do better in the big games against teams that know us - now tOSU and UGA but arch will get better over the season.

Nobody said it’d be easy.

This is a pattern with Sark, though. Tweak these things and the team will succeed. Keep them the same, and it'll take a miraculous play from a 1st Round WR talent to beat Arizona State.

And a 7th round QB too!!

Apparently someone photoshopped Day before the game and this started spreading online. Granted I am a little stoned right now, but the randomness of this is cracking me up

I think it boils down to this.  Sark's offense is designed to create mismatches in space.  Once you get inside the 20 and especially inside the 10 there is no more space.  He needs a better redzone plan which includes sometimes kicking FG's.  Also his game plans often seem to hinge on his scripted plays at the beginning of games being successful.  Many games we have gotten out to early leads on the scripted plays and once we get to the 2nd half we just try to hang on.  We need better in game adjustments which is either from listening to offensive coaches that have more time to dedicate to in game study or just hiring an OC who can solely concentrate on just the offense in a game.  We have a big enough sample size to know our weaknesses.  Now are we willing to self scout and make the changes.
