Fuck.  I never took a class at Texas, but I spent time with Wilson on more than one occasion.  He and I went drinking in San Diego before a Holiday Bowl, and he totally cockblocked me with the beautiful bartender.  I'm not kidding.  What a cool cat.  I hope he's OK.  He always drove to Cali in an old Ford Pickup that looked like it had seen better days.

Looks like one of my grandfathers, but with a bunch of Texas stuff.

Get well soon and I hope that the hospital room has ESPN. 🙏

Let’s have the boys win one for the superfan.

I consider Scott to be a very good friend.  Ive known him since either 1993 or 1994.

My buddy was literally sitting next to him on the plane to Jacksonville yes and he said there was no distress on the flight, and had just passed him off to another friend of Scott and it was sudden, happening in baggage claim after my buddy had left.

Scott is a fucking legend.   Lets hope he gets through it with minimal damage

Jacksonville is a pretty big medical hub. Plenty of good hospitals to make sure he gets the right care. Hopefully, he's back on his feet soon

Thank goodness we aren't playing Mississippi State this weekend.

What’s his current football streak?

this was going to be game 597.   so, due to the obvious hospitalization it will end at 596

baseball is 1500+    He missed a series back in 1999 or 2000 otherwise that streak would have been close to 3,000

To be fair (Letterkenny quote protected), I would think Mississippi would be the prime location to have a heart attack considering how frequently their medical facilities are required to treat them.

They don't appear to be very successful.

As someone with a lot of family near Starkville, you ain't kidding. Dad was over there several years ago visiting and had chest pains. He got sent to Tupelo. Then there is the whole Leach thing. RIP pirate.

As Steamboat has mentioned Scott has been stabilized and a path forward is now being considered as to what procedures to take. We have a very large group email that consists of nearly every Wild Bunch person and others from UT Baseball and UT Football. It keeps us informed on each other pretty well. Steamboat and I are a part of this group email, and we know each other.

I have known and traveled with Scott and before his passing Jose Pena to so many games in the past. It started with my first year as a student at UT and one of my professors was also a college umpire that had done games at Disch-Falk. He taught production for doing live sports. He also did that kind of work and was still doing that for CBS for the Sun Bowl in El Paso each year. We talked about baseball, and I told him I had followed Texas sports since I was a kid and couldn't wait for baseball season. He told me he wanted me to meet some people when the season started, and I said ok.  When opening day at that the Disch came that season I met him at the front gate, and he led me around to section 2 and down the steps where Wilson and others were. I didn't know any of them. He just addressed the whole section and said that this guy belongs with you. He loves UT, he knows his baseball, and he is a real smartass. I have to go work a game and I leave him for better or worse in your hands. He turned and left and after a period of time I became a part of this motley crew for so many years. Through my student days and after graduation.

I have told some of the stories in various UT Baseball threads and some included Scott, such as the picture I posted of several of us with a hog head before a game with Arkansas in Omaha. I have known him for I believe 48 years now and hope to share more stories from the past and the future.

Please pray for Scott to return and start a new streak!

Man I remember we roasted that hog and ate it before the game.

Then someone put the head an a spike and took it into Rosenblatt.

By the fourth inning the smell was getting pretty nearly.

A close friend of Scott invited me to go with them to a game in Fort Worth against TCU several years ago.   We rode in his Cadillac.  The only necessities were a big bucket of fried chicken and lots of whiskey.  During the game, some TCU pricks had broken the horns off the hood of the car.   I was the only one sober enough to drive us back to Austin.  He wanted the Doug Supernaw song "Red and Rio Grande" on a loop all the way home.   When we got back, Scott gave me a t-shirt that said, "I drove the caddy home."  That was my first and only trip with them, but it was a blast. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

I think the word Steamboat was going for was narly. It did get quite ripe after a while. It was warm that day and the flies did start coming around.

The guy in the dark red shirt is Wilson and the guy in the jeans would be me.

Just got an informative update from a friend in Gainesville …

Wilson is stable, but he is sedated and intubated right now.

Not able to speak.

Doctor’s are determining path forward, bypass surgery vs. multiple stents.

Friends at the game are there to support around the hospital, and he has family currently flying in from Texas.

I’ll pass more details as I have them.

It’s hard to see the silver lining right now, but it’s fortunate he had the heart attack at the airport after landing.

If this happened during the flight, they get diverted to who knows where and maybe they don’t have the same quality of healthcare facilities.
