Lol, I think we have different definitions for game manager because that feels very game manager to me.  You're correct that we have no idea how this plays out, but we are playing at home and just need him to show up for one game.  The fact that Vandy doesn't really have a lot of tape on Caldwell AND the fact that he took a deuce on Miss St.'s face on the road during OT to win the game is pretty impressive to me.

We definitely do. When I think of game manager it’s a guy that can run the system and take care of the football. Why the 20 TDs and 15 ints does not scream game manager to me, but as we agreed nobody knows until we see it

It's fine so long as you admit your opinion is terrible. Wingo is the big play threat in this offense. Getting rid of our explosiveness, the only real trait we can rely on right now, is stupid. We should look to utilize him differently maybe. Take him off the field? Fuck no.

the problem with this is that explosiveness is required to catch up in our current offense because we can't reliably march down the field and convert 3rd down or goal line drives

you fix either one of these problems and suddenly you aren't playing from behind all the time

the explosiveness because the kill shot

We are playing from behind because our oline is terrible. It isn't because of Wingo. Replacing him doesn't fix your problem.

I want to see the front 7 play cohesively.  LB to take smart angles and tackle. No yards after contact.

I feel like if PK brings the goods we should force 1 or 2 TOs.

Hopefully we fall on the damn ball this time around.

Sounds like there’s some hittin’ goin’ on at practice.  You want the games to be easy as compared and I like it.   May lose a guy for a game or two but we need to bring the dogs out in this league

29 total TD’s.  Can’t short the man his rushing touchdowns

The long term NFL style shit yadda yadda has seemed to work for the D *thus far*, it only took a crazy deep defense and we have a chance to be relatively more fresh and healthy than other defenses we face rest of the way.

Everyone does.

I don't think that's possible given Vandy identity

Our defense is going to score more than  the fighting Pavias.

They reliably marched down the field and converted third downs to score 24 straight points in Q3/Q4 against MS. st

Don't be an ass. Your argument was that we had no plays demonstrating that. You were wrong. Limited evidence is still some evidence. I think the reality is that the more experienced QB is going to be better at that part of the game. Arch has other attributes that he has demonstrated recently that will be very tough to match.

lol imagine taking one play as evidence that one football players is unquestionably superior to another football player in a specific area, then getting bitter over being called out over it

Yes, I got corrected that we went from two plays of proof, that it was actually only one.

So basically people who think Caldwell > Arch are literally twice as stupid as I thought, and are mad about it. Congrats!

Oh so your only point was to say that one of the passes may not have been his first read? Nice job, thanks for pointing that out! Great sleuthing, no need to get so mad tho, not that serious.

So do you feel Caldwell > Arch on going through progressions? Since you know, that was the conversation at hand. And now you proved there is only one play that serves as "evidence" of that.

Pocket Awareness is Arch's kryptonite. Caldwell will look like Quinn on Saturday by comparison. He'll get the ball out quickly and get the ball to his playmakers.

Not saying it's impossible for Caldwell to do that, but people keep stating this as a fact. What is it based on?

i did not think I would see someone say Arch has bad pocket awareness and Quinn's pocket awareness is something people aspire to duplicate.

Arch actually has really good pocket awareness. He just sucks at getting the ball out on time and knowing where to go pre snap and post snap based on defensive alignments.

Was about to post this exact thing. He senses breakdowns well. I can't imagine what Quinn would look like with this OL.

Moore has speed.  He ran a 10.9 100m.  Niblett ran 10.5 or better a couple of times.  They can do what Wingo does on the swing passes too.

No they cant, or they would have by now.

What makes you think that about Caldwell? Two passes where Sark called basic one read quick action pass plays?

I'm not saying it's impossible for Caldwell to do well, but for people to act like we have some legitimate proof that he processes plays better than Arch is absurd. It's literally two plays.

Well since your post starts with a 100% false premise it's tough to respond. Neither play was a quick one read pass play called by Sarkisian. The Florida play had multiple options and Wingo was his third read. The MSU play was an audible by Caldwell.

We still don't know shit about fuck when it comes to how good or not good Caldwell is but you should probably try again.

I expect that Caldwell will likely be faster than Arch at reading defenses and making decisions. That's just part of the difference between a fifth-year player and a third-year player. It is also something that we know Arch is slow at (so far). That said, Arch's pocket awareness and navigation is elite. And he has the ability to make NFL level throws and does so on a regular basis. If our offensive line can protect him at all, I think Caldwell can play well, and we will see an offense that is somewhat more consistent down to down, but significantly less explosive. However, if we are giving up pressure up on the middle regularly, things are unlikely to go well. While Caldwell is mobile, it is a lot to expect him to have anywhere near Arch's ability to elude free rushers.

I think Texas has an advantage outside. This is game I would expect Sark to test the Vandy Dbs with some screen action. Vandy is going to probably run a bunch of stunts and zone blitzes to confuse the OL, because I do not think they believe they can hold up in coverage. OL issues could be a bigger issue in this game. I do not know Caldwell's game and we have not seen him play with pressure, but there are not many Qbs that will stand in the pocket and take a shot like Arch does. Caldwell has to take care of the football, which has been a problem for him in the past.

Yeah. The interceptions are definitely a concern. Arch has been really careful with the ball. Even more concerning is Arch is responsible for 81% of our offensive touchdowns this season. Our overall production is meager, and having to replace 81% of it is frightening.

So it's based on one play made by Caldwell, and assuming that it's going to be better than Arch because Arch has flaws.

Got it!

Also for people claiming Caldwell has so much more experience than Arch, even that's kinda limited in truth. In terms of total CFB experience sure, since he spent time in FCS. But in FBS, Arch actually has almost 100 more pass attempts, and numerous starts against SEC opponents, compared to Caldwell's 2 (albeit very successful) attempts.

Again, doesn't mean Caldwell can't have equal or more success than Arch, just that it's a ridiculous measure to use to claim Caldwell will absolutely be superior to Arch.

I didn't say he would be better than Arch as a QB generally. I said he will likely be better at one specific skill that takes time to learn. We have most of a season of Arch's play to know that right now quick processing is a weakness. We also have Caldwell's play this season and from his prior stops to know that generally he is pretty good at making quick decisions (but not always correct decisions).

No one has said that. We already have ample evidence that reading comprehension is a weakness of yours. You don't need to provide any more.

Wasn't talking about you specifically. And yes people absolutely have been saying such things. It takes about 10 seconds of reading through the Arch thread and basically any other platform where people are talking about the Longhorns. Stop being so sensitive.

Um. No.. Pocket Awareness is one of Arch's strengths. It is more his processing speed and accuracy that will cause problems. He takes a lot of sacks because he is determined to stick in the pocket and get a throw off because it takes him too long to see the open guy. He is awesome at sliding in the pocket and avoiding the first rusher. Quinn looked like a giraffe on rollerskates when a free rusher came at him.

Last I saw Arch was at 11% in self-pressures from PFF, which put him in the top 10% percentile among qualified QBs (very good). Quinn was the 11th most self-pressured QB among qualified Qbs in 2024.
