So with wins over two of the four teams ahead of us and having a single loss, we would have head to head over everyone aside from potentially Tennessee and Ole Miss. they would both get in ahead of us?

Head to head doesn’t matter in a three or more team tie unless all the tied teams have played each other. (UT/aggy/ole miss for example)

Regarding Vandy, the committee has already shown they aren’t only concerned with W/L record. Last season they seeded Ohio State higher than Indiana, despite Indiana having one fewer loss and being in the same conference. Indiana had a joke schedule and Ohio State won the head to head

A three loss Texas may miss the playoff, but it won’t be Vanderbilt taking their spot

Or, our two NFL safeties and nfl cornerback might be healthy and we will be a good secondary again.

In that case, Ole miss played neither, and Texas has head to head over aggy , correct?

Correct. It would first come down to record against common opponents (just Florida and Arky). We would be 1-1 while the other two are 2-0, so we’d be out of that tie.

Could see Ole Miss, but seems like a reach since there is a H2H result. Thanks for clarifying.

A 9-3 Texas will get in or they can kiss big non conference matchups good bye. No way the big wigs will let that happen. There will be a ton of pressure for a 9-3 Texas to make the playoffs. Illuminati type pressure.

Of course we played the OSU/UM away games first...over the next 4 years, we have Ohio State and Michigan at home, Notre Dame away, then Notre Dame at home.  Gonna be pissed if they canc those.

This is actually the best argument for Texas at 9-3.

all I know is, being on the bubble for the playoff makes you realize how stupid it is to basically give an automatic spot to a G5 school just because they won their dogshit conference.

play nobody all year and get molested in the playoffs for the sake of inclusion.

If we don’t get in at 9-3, cancel every marquee non conference game moving forward and schedule Rutgers instead.

Would be ridiculous to penalize a team that actually challenged themselves in addition to their 8 normal SEC games in favor of some of these teams that play total garbage out of conference.

It doesn’t matter. In the scenario I said we would see 5 sec teams in. We’d be 6-2 with wins over Vandy, OU and Aggy.
my guess is it would be:

Bama, Georgia, Aggy, Ole Miss, Texas.
You think a theoretical 10-2 Vandy or OU goes ahead of Texas?  Fuck off. (Not personal- just saying).
also there is a very real chance we are like 11 or 13 in the CFP rankings released this week. If Georgia is 3 or 4 we ain’t tumbling  down into oblivion if we lose to them.

I like you. You can come over to my house and fuck my sister.

sec order of finish tiebreakers have fuckall to do with committee rankings

if all other results hold to scratch but we win out we finish 4th in the sec and with 2 losses would get in, possibly host, but no bye

9-3 losing in athens we are 5th in the sec with 3 losses and thus the op's large post-fat-surgery penis of enchubbenment

for the hell of it if the last weekend goes opposite of scratch (except aggy) we still finish 4th

sark pulled his head out of his ass, broke the glass on the emergency looch offense, and then pk proceeded to fuck it all away

so he gets to parcells "we are still a playoff team until we are not" for 2 more weeks

If we win out we are in the playoffs and probably get the SECCG week off, and that might be good for this team.  Bama, Aggy and Ole Miss all have the inside track on us to CCG while having easy remaining schedules.

All true. But if we beat UGA and A&M, we’re in. I strongly suspect it’d be us versus Bama with A&M and Ole Miss high at-large seeds.

There used to be an upside during the years of the 4 team playoff. It benefited us greatly when we beat what would be an SEC champion Bama. I think it’s much less beneficial in the age of the 12 team playoff.

That 3rd loss at uga drops you 20-25 range. How do jump high enough beating aggy?

That would be a concern. But maybe the committee places them higher playing better with 2 top 10 wins

I don't have a problem with the assertion that a 9-3 Texas team likely makes the playoffs, but I don't think it's a lock.

I just want to see the scenario in which we go 2-1 in our last three games.  I'm pretty sure we'll lose at least one against UGA or A&M.  Lose another?  That's 50/50 in my mind and at that point we're talking rando bowl game.

Agreed.

A 9-3 Texas isnt getting into the playoffs above the 2 loss teams we aren’t even gonna play for the sec championship. Aggy ole miss bama will all have better records than us.  Put the fucking crack pipe down. Even if we beat UGA and aggy. aggy ole miss and bama have fucking paper soft schedules remaining and they aren’t sticking 4 sec teams in the playoffs

They are def getting 4. It’s if they get 5.

It would be absolutely Hilarious son multiple levels to win the SEC this year.  I think our SEC schedule has been tougher. The SEC is deeper this year than last.  And we started horribly.

add in that “this is Aggies year” and it would funny on so many levels.

Yep. What gets us left out is if it’s a 12-1 BYU or something like that which loses in the big 12 title game.

Yep need the ACC/Big 13 loser to have 2 losses before their title game.

This is why Bama was left out for SMU last year.  SMU lost a P4 non-conf and in the CCG.

True. And I get that take.  But go back and look at their losses and our theoretical losses.

losses to Tennessee(made the playoffs) and vandy(barely top 20 last year) and the worst OU team in 25 years.

you could say the Florida loss is  as bad as their OU loss. But losing to #1 OSU week one on the road? Top 5 Georgia on road?

it’s not even in the same area code or comparable imo.

3 hours ago, Wulaw Horn said:

Yep. And that’s why it’s a 65% chance and not a 90% chance. 11-2 Ga tech that lost in the ACC title game would be almost a perfect analog to last years SMU

Yeah but I still think the Bama argument wouldn’t hold water this year against Texas.

and yes we need the ACC/Big 12 loser to have 2-3 losses. At least.

Same as above. It would be stupid to play them if they hold a week 1 road loss to a top 5 game against us.

I’d suggest we all stop being bitches on this talking point.

First of all, we have no evidence of just how much (if any) we will be penalized for losing on the road in week one against the #1 ranked team in the country. We have not been screwed out of anything as of now.

Second, we have a really fun upcoming slate of marquee games. Those games will be awesome and fun, pretty much the best games September could possibly have to offer. And we’ll win our share of them, and when we do, we’ll get a big boost in our resume come end of those seasons.

If we lose literally off of them, fuck it, sounds like we have bigger issues that need to be addressed that isn’t solved by scheduling cupcakes. Let Texas be the leader on doing the right thing on this specific fight.

Only thing that could be. Better was an ole miss loss. Probably not necessary but of Florida can beat them it’s basically a done deal at 9-3 Texas being better than them. Or MSST over ole Miss.

If last season is any indicator, the loss column is what's most important to the committee. They can talk about not punishing OOC losses, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think playing some random P4 instead of an elite OOC opponent is doing the 'wrong' thing. We'll play around 4 marquee opponents every year in conference, then more in the playoffs if we get there. With realignment and the expanded playoff, there have never been more marquee matchups in CFB then there are now.

If the OL and Arch keep progressing it could happen. Reed and those WRs are a different animal but we kept him in check last year and sacked Pavia 6 times today. Vandy OL is no slouch.
