In Washington, at any rate, over 60% of ballots are returned via drop box rather than USPS already (higher in more urban counties, lower in more rural). During the pandemic it was closer to 75%. WA has the most liberal voting laws in the country; your ballot if mailed only needs to be postmarked by Election Day, not received. This is a clear shot at that, however my guess is that there will be even more drop boxes added due to this along with some pointed commentary regarding rural and senior voters getting screwed/fed to the leopards (to say nothing of the odds your taxes may end up being late). WA is D +20 and I don't expect much change in results, but this shit pisses me off. States like Nevada worry me more than the four Pacific states, in which not a single R represents a congressional seat touching salt water.

Texas counties can have one drop box.

Don’t worry.  I’m posting right now from my place in frozen Chi.  Just more days in FL and vote down there.

where are you exactly? Highland Park maybe?

Oh this decision will be reversed in April. Lot of people do not pay attention to these little details. They’ll get fucked and they’ll bitch to Congress and it’ll get changed. We are talking about people who mail this stuff in. They’ve skipped technology or are in a situation where physical paperwork is needed for some reason.

Burbs? Helllll no. I’ll take my chances at getting shot before I move to the burbs. Gold Coast.

But off to Peru now. Gonna do first hike up Machu Picchu 1/1 AM. A good cleanse for the soul before I’m a degenerate again.

Are most mail-in voters democrats? It seems like the demographic that would use it most (elderly and military) are probably republican voters, but I really don't know.

How was the hike?

Most states that are mail-in are blue (Washington and Oregon have been mail-in for decades). Even in those states, some races will likely be affected. WA accepts all ballots postmarked by election day, not received. While there are a lot of drop boxes here (my county has 90 or so), about a third of voters still mail their ballots in.

Perú is incredible. Can’t recommend highly enough. Machu Picchu is amazing but it’s just the beginning. The food and architecture. Blown away.

Edit: also you have the GOAT user name, ha

He should consult with Abbott.

George Conway, a Trump Foe, Changes Home and Party to Run for Congress

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/06/nyregion/george-conway-congress-manhattan.html?unlocked_article_code=1.CVA.Ta-q.iBgXk6NAOGIm&smid=url-share

Conway seems like somebody who isn't afraid to mix things up. Just moved from DC burbs to Manhattan and is running for a seat there.

“We have a criminal president who is basically running the government like a mob operation,” Mr. Conway said in an interview before declaring his candidacy. “We need people to come in who are willing to call that out, and people with special skills.”

If possible, Newsom should mimic Abbott by at least waiting 6 months if not until November.

Given that Dems will finally get some empty seats filled soon, I’m assuming that the GOP will only have a couple of seats over the Dems. Maybe they can afford 2 of them to oppose a bill. Maybe 1.

Unless my math is off, with Massie an automatic "No" and Baird in the Hospital, I think the GOP has an absolute majority, but not a working majority right now. It's only temporary until Baird gets back, but I don't think they could win a party line vote right now. There are 431 members, Baird is out, bringing it to 430, if Massie is a no, then the GOP can't get to 215, assuming all members are present and voting and no other members defect.

Marge leaves Monday.

oh, and because our governor isn't a petty cunt like our president

I don't know. More of our voters live in cities and have less need to vote by mail. The attacking voting by mail seems to hurt the elderly, rural, and military voters the most.

CNN had an article that Trump spoke to the GOP House and Senate members at a kick-off for 2026 initiatives and elections. He apparently called out Massie as being unreliable. What a consensus builder.

Massie is actually pretty reliable. He has an ideology he abides by. You will usually know what his opinion will be and what he will do before he ever opens his mouth.
