Does anybody know how the pecking order goes on a week to week basis for the rights to Conf games? Looking ahead UT will be on FOX or FS1 every week so far with the exception of the Tulsa game.

Seems like FOX is getting the majority of the marquee conf games.

 UT/USC   OU/UCLA   UT/TCU   Iowa/Iowa St   UT/OU   TT/UH

The Only major exception was Ohio St/TCU game but I assume Fox chose UT/USC over that game.

How does everyone feel about the Fox family coverage these days? I think Klatt's crew is terrific - in fact I think they're the best in CFB. Quinn's crew is knowledgeable as well. Down the line their in-game teams are good if you ignore irritating voices and listen to what guys like Petros P are saying. I think CBS has the best guys in-studio and it isn't even close, but I don't mind the Fox crews covering games at all. I think their camera work has signficantly improved as well, although it isn't up to par with ESPN. I like that Fox is competing earnestly for CFB. We should all be excited about that.

Regarding the in-studio teams, I am as baffled about Dave Wannstedt having a gig in this space as I was by him having a gig as a HC for so many years. He's an aging SuperMario replica with dated takes who picks favorites and then acts as though he nailed the underdogs the whole way. Matt Leinart doesn't bother me. I find him likable, actually, and that comes knowing what a douche he was around the 2005 title game. Robert Smith is plain vanilla but he knows his shit.

The CBS team is great. Brian Jones speaks his mind and knows his shit. Neuheisel is excellent and they play off of each other well. Speaking of Neuheisel, I know we're supposed to despise him and stuff because of Colorado and Cedric Cormier and whatever, but his morning show on XM 84 with Chris Childers is the best college radio show in the world, at any time. If you've not given it a shot, do so. Childers is ridiculous and an unapologetic imbecile sometimes, but he genuinely loves CFB and follows it as closely as anyone here. He also calls guys out when he thinks they're full of shit, including going apeshit on Meyer and Pitino in recent months. The CBS SEC team has improved because of Nessler, but Gary Danielsen is the college football version of Satan or Joseph Goebbels.

ABC and ESPN are agenda pushing shells of their former selves. Kirk Herbstreit is one of the few people in this world that I don't actually know who I'd risk taking my own life in order to take theirs. If he's jogging down a curving freeway on a cliffside and I'm pulling up from behind, we're both heading over that cliff, and one of us will be cackling. This is also true for Brian Bosworth, Barry Switzer, Vladamir Putin, and Lena Dunham.

Sorry for the digression.

Craig Way it is then.

What don't you guys like about Brando? I know he was an SEC shill when on CBS, but do you feel he's still that way on Fox? I guess I grew up with him as an ear in my head during formative years, so I've never minded him. Spencer Tillman, on the other hand, can go fuck himself. Honestly, the OU guys in the media are pretty much the worst as a collective. Murray, Tillman, fucking Dvoracek, Dean Blevins - when he was around, fuck him still, and I feel like there's another I'm missing. They openly shill for OU and it's a beating.

In thinking about schools with a lot of guys in the media, Texas is actually right up there and extremely well represented. LHN has helped on that with getting Ahmad Brooks and Emmanuel Acho out there. But we've also got Jones and Mack Brown making regular national appearances. Bama, Nebraska, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan and Syracuse also have multiple representatives talking the sport on tv weekly.

I like Packer, but I completely understand why you'd think he's a beating. He's way, way too nice and accommodating to callers and he's never going to say much more than a "tsk tsk" when he's negative on a team.

Along these lines, XM 84 is just generally awesome. I listen to it almost exclusively when I am driving unless Texas just got embarrassed by Maryland.

Petros Papadakis is tough to listen to at times when he gets excited, but agree he tends to be knowledgeable..... like him more as a talk show guy.

Here's interesting podcast right after USC's loss to Texas where Petros is a guest and discussing the problems going on at both USC and UCLA

I always listen to the radio broadcast, even if watching on TV, or at DKR.

I used to always do this as well, but am stuck with whoever does the televised broadcast now. Between streaming the games on my tv now, and having to stream the radio link on my phone due to living in the metroplex, I can’t get them to come close to syncing up now. Craig Way is calling a third down play while the tv is still showing the team lining up for first down

It must be your nostalgia. Brando has been quite clear in his disdain for the Texas program of late, but the lasting memories of him I have in recent history was the Texas vs. Texas Tech game in 2016 when he did a piss-poor job as the play-by-play, and spent a good chunk of the TCU game a few weeks later taking up for Charlie Strong (while continuing to butcher simple facts and player names).

I believe you. I was in the Aria sportsbook during that Texas Tech game, so we didn't get to hear the broadcast. The TCU game in 2016 was infuriating for the Strong begfest and watching the players, losing badly to TCU after embarrassing us basically forever against Kansas, bawling on the sidelines and acting as if the fans and the program was doing horrible shit by turning fully on Strong. I will never forget Hager fucking howling like a 6 year old into the TV screen. I like the guy, but that was grim.

He hates Texas.  I think it's his north LA. , woe is me , no one considers our part of the state ever, mentality.  On his older radio show, he never missed an opportunity to dog Mack and even recently he was critical of our two wins.  Can't stand the guy, oh and he is butt buddies with that Sooner.

The camera work is 100 times better than in years past on Fox.  Last year, it seemed like every game I watched on Fox, they would miss a play because they were either showing a reply or the crew just had their heads up their ass.  This year, on replays, they have added a box that shows live action in case the offense is running tempo.  Fox has upped their game.

I like the Fox coverage, especially Klatt.  I really used to hate Neuheisel because of Colorado and then his goddamn kid beating us and all.  He's on the Dan Patrick show a couple of times a year and its true what they say, time heals all wounds.  I like him now.  He tells good stories and seems cool.  He had a funny anecdote about Harbaugh beating him:

I am pretty down on ESPN over the past few years, just across the board.

Agreed, if I want MSNBC, I would not be watching sports... In recent news, Disney head man Iger has said ESPN needs to stick to sports (or something to that effect)...

I’m pretty sure for the B1G they draft pick a certain number of big games alternating picks. Fox takes um-osu, abc takes osu-psu, Fox takes um-msu, abc takes nd-nw, etc.

I think it works the same in the XII, I know the PAC has a "rotation" where the top games go ABC-ESPN/ FOX-FS1 one week, FOX-FS1/ ABC-ESPN the next week...

I wonder, how the Alston case could have an effect on media distributions in the XII, along with ACC/B1G/SEC & PAC, in the coming years, will it impact us as viewers.?

Quote

Alston v. NCAA: The Parties Settle for in Excess of $208 million ...

Feb 13, 2017 - Alston claimed the NCAA and major conferences conspired to contain costs ... is completed being that the Alston case is a class action matter.

Hmm... Found this interesting, in that a P5 commissioner had to testify in the ongoing  case out in Oakland...

"Here’s the quick four-step background for those who haven’t seen the original piece:
1) The plaintiffs are seeking to upend the NCAA economic model by allowing athletes to be compensated for their services based on the open market.
2) During his testimony, Scott was asked about his salary in a series of seven questions by the NCAA’s attorney.
3) A correspondent for Law360, who is covering the trial, summarized Scott’s answers in a series of tweets. Included in the tweet string was this:
“Scott says his annual salary, including his ‘target bonus,’ is $4.5 million. He says it’s in line and reasonable with other media executives.”
4) The Hotline newsletter (distributed Wednesday before lunch) addressed the issue of Scott’s compensation being based on his role as a media executive and not as commissioner."

Quote

In the interest of full transparency and accountability, we’re publishing the exchange — provided to the Hotline by the Pac-12 — in its entirety right now, right here:

Q. When you were offered the job as the PAC-10 commissioner, I take it, was the salary that you received competitive with what you were making at the WTA?

A. It was — it was competitive but slightly less.

Q. So you made less money when you came to the PAC-10 than you had been making?

A. As a salary. But I had incentive clauses in my contract that could lift it.

Q. Since the time that you started with the PAC-10 conference and — and network and started the PAC-12 networks, has your salary gone up?

A. It has.

Q. What is your current salary as the PAC-12 commissioner?

A. My salary is $3 million before bonus opportunities.

Q. And with the bonus opportunities, what is the — what is the ultimate compensation, the highest that you’ve received?

A. My target bonus is 50 percent of my salary. And it’s never exceeded that. So right now if I receive my full target bonus, the total compensation would be $4.5 million.

Q. Is your salary separated between the conference work that you do and the PAC-12 networks work that you do?

A. It is. An important component of determining my compensation is based on a unique dual role that I have serving as commissioner of the conference, but also executive chairman of a media company that’s wholly owned by our 12 schools where we’re unique in that regard.

Q. Do you know one way or the other whether your salary is in line with comparable positions with other media companies? And if you do know, please tell us how before you tell us the answer.

A. It is. And I know because, you know, when my contract was signed initially and subsequently as it’s been renegotiated or extended on each of those occasions, our board of directors which are university presidents and Chancellors have engaged a compensation consultant. As a not-for-profit organization it’s very, very important to prove reasonableness and that it’s competitive with the market. So, you know, our board takes that very seriously and has outside compensation consultants come in and analyze my compensation compared to media executives on the one hand, commissioners on the other hand, and they confirm to our board whether what’s being discussed is reasonable.

https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2018/09/19/setting-the-record-straight-scotts-testimony-compensation-methodology-and-dual-executive-roles/

My question, how might payment to collegiate athletes impact not only potential moves of realignment, but also tv viewing habits, if tech giants enter the fray to offset cost..?

Childers and Rick’s show on 84 is freaking great.

Listen everyday, especially when traveling.

Packer was ok, but I really found his opinions about pedo state distasteful.

I do seem to recall him doing a show with Mike Leach before he got the Wazzu job, and they were funny together.

Agree with Rick and the Show Pony.

Brady Quinn makes me miss Jesse Palmer or Trev Albert. Maybe not.

Leinart is good but a bit pedestrian.
