Two championship defenses in a row and your team loses because of a shitty OC and his staff and you get fired. That has to suck but I like the move.

Sark doesn’t hire OC so he doesn’t have to manage the offense: failure, focus on head coaching!

Sark hires fully involved DC so he doesn’t have to micromanage the defense: also failure, that’s part of head coaching!

It takes some serious lack of awareness and reading comprehension to make that statement.     Actually this response and that of @Dahobbs @lilMAC25 @USNALonghorn @texasdago represents the inability of our fans to be thoughtful at times.   I stated I recall a game where Muschamp's failure to adapt in a game was jarring for me, and I am not certain that he will be an upgrade over PK.   Now some of you are in a feedback loop projection and have decided that I said the problem with the 2010 team was not Mack and the offensive scheme that didn't fit the people on campus and the failure in GG's evaluation to fit the team.    When all I said was that defense giving up on the same play over and over was bad.

Someone tried to excuse it as it was OK for the defense to quit because the offense was terrible, and I countered with that is part of the fucking job to not let that happen.

You’re smoking crack my dude.

Think what you want about these year but it is hard to keep a good defense motivated when the offense is playing like dogshit. They showed versus Ohio State what level they could play at if it were not for feeling like they had to carry the team by themselves.

He was micromanaging the defense with a DC who has 30 years of experience? Okurrrrrrr Quinn

Maybe it’s true, maybe not. People are mad about the concept which was the point.

IU dominated tOSU at the end of the year when it mattered most.

I am not convinced tOSU had the great offense people think they had.

tOSU played 3 teams with a defensive pulse.

14, 27, 10.

In his press conference, Sark mentioned that having Boom will allow him to concentrate on the Offense in games instead of having to pay attention to the D when they're on the field.

A step in the right direction, but... sounds like he's keeping the OC job for himself, and that just prolongs the issue. I still think he needs to have a real OC who's smart enough and forceful enough to run that side, while allowing Sark as HC to override when he deems it necessary... you know, like going for it on 4th down  on your own 30.

It is a step in the wrong direction.

He needs to pay attention to all 3 phases. He need to be a head coach.

This hire will magnify our problems, not solve them.

Take out the OSU, Florida, and Georgia games and a few embarrassing quarters from this season and you have a pretty salty championship caliber defense, might I say elite!

That some serious sunshine pumping bs right there. That mentality is exactly what has us constantly getting our shit pushed in.

Some of y'all really do need to consider getting in the MF’er.

aww, who am I kidding

Holding your last five opponents to 30 points or so is all well and good, but you still gotta score some points, too. Where are the pick-6es and the safeties? Punt returns for 6 are good, but ST gets the credit, not D.

The offense didnt play like dogshit against Miss St, Vandy, or Arkansas and that was 3 out of the 4 games that they gave up 30+ points in. That's a cop out. Im not buying it.

It's not a this or that situation. Muschamp and everything he provides is an upgrade for the defense and team as a whole.

Sark also needs to make changes on the offensive side of the ball, I think playcalling will look a lot better if we are able to get the OL to move guys with greater frequency in the run game. Maybe that starts with replacing Flood, but whoever we replace him with has to have the credibility to attract guys in the portal. It would likely also mean losing Malakai Lee.

yup. so he is digging his heels in, instead of getting better at understanding he is the head coach, not of the offense, but of the team. Should never allow the phrase "head coach of the defense" to slip his lips.

They played like crap versus Miss St and then the offense started to finally come back and the second they did then the defense stepped up big time. So with Miss St you prove my point more than with any other game. Against Vandy the defense had the game handled and then we got substitutes those guys are not expected to play championship level defense. Arkansas? When was that game ever in doubt? Again subs. You choose three terrible examples to try to make your argument.

Yea, no serious coach of a serious program would say that.

I would say OU is more chaotic than completely irresponsible, that is why a patient back like Wisner could gash them over and over again, all he had to do was observe and wait for a stunting lineman to vacate the space he was going to push through. that said other backs fail to see and get swallowed up in that chaos, but with an ultra aggressive defense the offense can dictate the gap they will always attack. Its easiest to visualize on this 1 gap 4-0-4 Okie

(Weak Side) (Strong Side)
          | |
          | [Exposed] |
OT | OG GAP C | OG OT TE
   O | O | O | O O O
          | | / \ | / / /
          | | / \ | / / /
        (DE) | V \ V V V
       4-Tech | (NT) (DE) (OLB)
                          | 0-Tech 4-Tech 9-Tech
                          | (Slants (Slants (Sets
                          | Strong A) Strong B) Edge)
                          |
                          |
                        (Will) (Mike)
                     Responsible Responsible
for Weak A for Strong C
                       (Plug) (Scrape)

The best NFL defenses are now 1.5 gap you simply can't be that irresponsible anymore.

point taken, but Day also rather publicly gave up control of the offense to go be more of an overseer of the team. I mean, when people bring up Sark and play-calling and the potential benefits of handing it over, Day is like prime example #1.  if you are going to be naming head coaches of your units, better not to have it seem like your entire identity is tied to one unit. good or bad, he will have nowhere to deflect to or hide if that offense doesn't come out singing next year.

He seems kind of dense as to what his role is here. It’s clear this guy wants to be an Offensive Coordinator that calls plays.

Really not a fan of his language in that presser.

2 games in a 3 year period?

You just said some stupid shit that had no real point.

you picked 2 fucking games (by your own admission) out of a 3 yr stint (and one of those games was such a hilariously bad outlier due to 5 INTs and a 15.4 QBR by the QB) and said “Muschamp’s defenses weren’t all that good”, despite the fact that they were by most metrics really REALLY fucking good.

From what I remember it was really bad sometimes, see this timestamped play

The A gaps were completely ignored because both DL recklessly took the B gap. It happened way too many times the middle was WIDE open in this case with an unblocked center.  Once you start to predict consistent aggression that the game is solved by the offense.

Such an insane comment. Texas offense was doing fine against Miss St. They scored 14 points in the first quarter. That shouldve already been pretty much enough against that middle school level offense. That was a case of the defense falling apart and the offense being pretty bad after those first 14 points.

Vandy game? That was an offensive explosion and the defense let Vandy try to get back into it by giving up 20+ points in the 4th.

Arkansas? Texas scored a TD on each of their first 3 drives yet only found themselves up 21-20. Arkansas scored on 4 straight drives, 2 TDs and 2 field goals. That is unacceptable.

Defense was very average in the back half of the season.

We were legit robbed that year of pure magic, that Colt injury happening exactly when it did was the single greatest what if in the sport and nobody will ever convince me otherwise, people keep remembering the Nebraska game but that is not how the BCS title was looking on offense it was going to be a W. Yes 2008 was better but 09 was also a really good offense and I hate to say it much better offense than we have yet to see under Sark over the course of a season.

Engineered by Greg Davis who was a much better OC than the “offensive genius”
