8-Year-Old Boy is Killed by Loose Dogs

January 15, 2025 by David Jones

The peaceful community of DeLand was rocked by a horrifying incident when an 8-year-old boy was fatally mauled by two dogs. The attack took place in the quiet neighborhood near Airport Road and Arabesque Drive, an area unaccustomed to such brutal events.

Residents, although reluctant to share their thoughts on camera, voiced their shock at the incident. A long-time resident painted a picture of a chaotic scene, marked by police presence and crime scene tape. The young boy had been playing near a local park when the dogs, identified as a pit bull and a mixed breed, initiated their attack.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, triggering a wave of reactions on social media. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood addressed the public, describing the event as “a tragedy beyond comprehension.” He encouraged the community to extend their prayers and support to the bereaved family.

An eyewitness, who happened to be nearby at the time of the incident, made the initial 911 call and tried to administer CPR to the young victim. Despite these efforts, the boy did not survive his injuries. The sheriff’s office has since apprehended both dogs and is holding them for further investigation.

Authorities are working tirelessly to unravel the circumstances leading up to the attack. Sheriff Chitwood is expected to provide more details in an upcoming press conference, aiming to shed light on this tragic event.

As the investigation progresses, the community remains anxious, seeking answers and hoping for measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. The neighborhood, typically known for its tranquility, is now wrestling with the harsh reality of the incident.

In the coming days, more information is expected as investigators continue their work. The community’s resilience and solidarity will be put to the test as they navigate the aftermath of this devastating loss.

Elderly Woman Fatally Attacked by Cocaine-Infused Pit Bulls: Lawsuit

March 16, 2025 by David Jones

In a distressing event in Ohio, a 73-year-old woman lost her life after being brutally attacked by her neighbor’s pit bulls, which were later found to have cocaine in their system, according to a lawsuit. JoAnn Echelbarger was attending to her garden in the shared spaces of her Ashton condominium in October when the dogs, Echo and Apollo, launched their assault.

Stanley Echelbarger, JoAnn’s husband, who is suffering from dementia and is confined to a wheelchair, could only witness the horrifying scene as his wife was savagely attacked for several minutes. The lawsuit claims that one of the dogs continued the attack even after police officers fired shots to stop the assault.

Earlene Romine, Echelbarger’s daughter, shared her grief and shock over the horrific incident. She expressed her disbelief at the tragic circumstances of her mother’s death, stating that no one should have to endure such a brutal attack.

Investigations following the incident revealed that both dogs had cocaine in their systems. The dogs’ owners, Adam Withers and his mother, Susan, were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with Echelbarger’s death last month, according to court records.

Bill Rogers, the victim’s son, expressed his anger towards the dog owners, questioning their responsibility in his mother’s death. The family has initiated a lawsuit against the dog owners, the condominium association, and the county dog warden, accusing them of negligence and overlooking several warning signs about the dogs’ behavior.

The lawsuit also refers to an incident that took place just weeks before the fatal attack. Police body camera footage revealed officers responding to reports that Echo and Apollo had consumed Adam Withers’ cocaine. The lawsuit alleges that the dog warden was unresponsive to the situation.

Despite the Withers’ failure to comply with an order to remove the dogs from the condominium, the pit bulls were allowed to stay. The lawsuit also accuses Adam Withers of mocking building management through social media posts.

The family is seeking more than $25,000 in compensatory damages and punitive damages through a wrongful death suit. Rex Elliot, the family’s attorney, stated that they are seeking justice and emphasized that local authorities had a duty to remove the dogs from the premises.

How many gunshots hit the victim instead of the dog?

From my dad today. Sherman Texas. First is his message to me. The second is the notification he received. She volunteered at the Adult Center up there and ran the book club.

This woman was baby sitting and she died protecting the child. She was

In her twenties. Two pitts. Really nice girl and in good shape. If they get you down it can bad fast.

For those of you who may not have heard yet, our friend and book club facilitator Lindsay Stroup, from the Eisenhower Birthplace, has passed away as the result of a dog attack.     As soon as I learn any details on funeral arrangements we will have something sent from the library and the book club.    It is a terrible shock and we will miss her terribly.

This is the kind of shit that could have bipartisan support in Texas. Gonna need an insurance policy, permit, and registration if you're going to own a dangerous dog breed, and there should be strong penalties for people who profit from irresponsible breeding of dangerous animals, which should be defined to include exotic animals and certain dog breeds.

Almost all carriers will not offer coverage if the policyholder has a pitt, chow, rott and a few other breeds.  Most agents know this and answer "None" on the application but it can still be excluded in many policy forms.

Woman Loses Both Arms and Legs in Vicious Dog Attack

September 26, 2025 by David Jones

In a tragic incident in early September, an Oklahoma woman, Janelle Scott, was severely attacked by a pit bull while on a bike ride with her boyfriend in her hometown of Okmulgee. The unexpected attack resulted in Scott having both her arms and legs amputated due to the severity of her injuries.

The pit bull, which had been left unattended after its owner was incarcerated, charged at Scott and her boyfriend, knocking Scott off her bike and causing significant injuries. Her boyfriend, in an attempt to protect her, was forced to kill the dog in self-defense. Another pit bull was present at the scene, but there was no evidence to suggest it was involved in the attack.

The dogs were under the care of a friend of Scott’s at the time of the incident, as per the Okmulgee Police Department. The dogs resided in a nearby trailer that had reportedly been broken into that day, possibly leading to their escape.

Scott’s mother, Cheryl, recounted the horrifying incident, explaining that her daughter was familiar with the dogs. She was heading towards the friend’s residence, which required passing through a wooded area, when the dogs attacked her.

Upon arrival, the responding officers found Scott with severe injuries. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she has been receiving treatment since the incident. Initially, it was anticipated that Scott would only lose her right arm, which was severely damaged. However, due to the extent of her injuries, doctors were compelled to amputate both her arms and legs.

Despite the devastating circumstances, Scott’s mother expressed admiration for her daughter’s resilience. She shared that her daughter continues to fight, even as doctors contemplate further amputations. Cheryl remains hopeful, believing that her daughter has a purpose and will find a way to overcome this ordeal.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover the mounting medical expenses, which has raised nearly $19,000 as of Thursday evening. The next steps for Scott include assessing her remaining limbs to determine if they can support prosthetics.

Police arrested the parents of a 2-year-old Oklahoma City girl after she was mauled to death by their allegedly starving pet pit bull — which had been locked in the room with her.

Oklahoma City police responded to their home around 11:30 pm on Nov. 18 after Darci Lambert, 24, called 911 to report that her daughter, Locklynn McGuire, had stopped breathing.

When police arrived, they found the girl dead in her bedroom with wounds on her body that were consistent with dog bites.

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare was called to the scene and removed four dogs from the home. Three of the four were malnourished, according to Fox 25. One of the dogs — whose ribs and hip bones were visible under its skin — was a black pit bull that cops said carried out the attack on the toddler.

According to an affidavit obtained by Fox25, Jordan McGuire, 34, who is the girl's father, put her to sleep around 7:30 pm and then took medicine to help him sleep. Lambert was at work until 10:30 pm.

McGuire told police he woke up around 8:30 pm and checked on the girl, and said she was sleeping on her bed next to the black pit bull. He told police that the dog was kept in the room because it would fight with the family's other three dogs.

According to the affidavit, the door had toddler locks on it that would prevent Locklynn from leaving.

Lambert said she did not check on the girl immediately after she returned home from work, and only found her body later after hearing heavy breathing coming from the room, according to the Oklahoma City Free Press.

She allegedly told first responders: "My daughter got ate by the pit," the Free Press reported

According to the affidavit, the girl's body showed evidence of extreme trauma that was consistent with a violent and prolonged dog attack, according to the outlet.

She and McGuire were arrested and charged with second-degree murder on Nov. 21. As of Monday, the couple were being held in the Oklahoma County Detention Center, both on $1 million bonds.

The affidavit includes a note stating that the girl was attacked by the same dog on November 6 and had to be treated at the Oklahoma University Children's Hospital. After that attack, Oklahoma Human Services was called in and conducted an investigation but did not remove the child from the home.

Lambert reportedly told investigators that she believed the pit bull was the dog that attacked the girl, and said Locklyn required plastic surgery after the attack.

Oklahoma City Police and Oklahoma City Animal Welfare were reportedly not notified of the November 6 incident. The affidavit says that McGuire and Lambert continued to lock the dog in the room with Locklynn despite the November 6 incident.

She chose to keep those dogs. The family should be going after the dog owner for money, and not the general public.

The Venn diagram of “pit bull owner” and “judgment proof” isn’t quite a circle, but it almost is.

Remarkable how every single adult mentioned or implied in that story, with the exception of the plastic surgeon and team, could have easily saved that child’s life but just …. Didn’t.

I am not in favor of destroying the pit just yet. All the social workers involved in the decision to leave that girl in the home should be locked in a room overnight with it on a rotating basis until either the dog is dead or the social workers are.
