Might not see the Cowboys take a Safety in 2nd Round unless they trade up..... Interesting quote:  "Gil Brandt says this draft has more quality safeties 'than I've seen in my life.' And he's 86. "

I think the thought is that he plays faster than he tested.

So smarter and quicker at read react type plays.  Better play Rapp closer to the line then.... or he will more likely get smoked deep.  Will need to handle 1-on-1 coverage of TE's and RB's in flats too.

Thanks....

Based on chart, why are others so interested in Taylor Rapp??  Thought he was slow.....

He was widely regarded as an early to mid 2nd round guy until he ran a slow 40. I still don’t think he gets to us but that’s a win if we get Rapp at 58. I’d be down with Thornhill too. If neither one of those guys are there, it’ll be interesting to see what direction we go.

Have read Cowboys might try to package their smaller 4th Corner (Jourdan Lewis) with a pick to possibly move up in the 2nd round..... I really hope that they can move around a little in the draft and pick up a couple additional picks.

How does the projected depth of talent in the 2020 & 2021 Drafts compare to the talent pool in 2019 NFL Draft??

SIAP..... Here's a good read on depth of position groups for 2019 Draft...

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001024108/article/2019-nfl-draft-ranking-position-groups-strongest-to-weakest

Summary -- Stongest to Weakest:

  • Interior DL  -- The position could produce as many as seven or eight of the top 50 players selected in this year's draft. Teams that haven't addressed DT by Friday of draft weekend could be left in a lurch, as there isn't as much depth in the middle to late rounds.
  • Edge -- Depending on whether or not teams reach for rushers, the strength of this position should be from about pick No. 24 until the end of the third round.
  • Interior OL -- There is enough guard depth to project a decent number of early starters and future starters headed all the way into the late-fourth and early-fifth round.
  • Offensive Tackle -- It won't receive as much mention, but this year's group of tackles offers a greater selection of starters and potential starters than we've seen since 2015.I
  • Tight End -- If your team needs a tight end, then you are in luck, relative to most drafts. Upstarts like Kahale Warring, Dawson Knox, Jace Sternberger and Josh Oliveradding "future starter" value and solid depth available in Rounds 4-6.I
  • Wide Receiver -- There aren't any "can't-miss" prospects in this group, but there is an interesting mixture of "solid" and "speculative" once you get into Rounds 2-4. This is a markedly better and deeper group than last year's class.
  • Safety -- From the early-second until the fourth or fifth round, there is pretty good quality and depth. This safety class has several players offering diversity or "big nickel" potential.  With potential corner-to-safety transitions, this group becomes even deeper.I
  • Quarterback -- Last year's QB class (particularly, the five first-rounders) was more talented -- and carried bigger upside -- than this group as a whole.I
  • Running Backs -- While it is lighter at the top, this group offers solid depth in the middle rounds and should produce stout backups and committee candidates.I
  • Cornerback -- Your team picked a bad year to need a cornerback -- well, at least a CB1. There is actually intriguing value on Day 3 in this group.
  • Linebackers -- I wouldn't call this a "bad linebacker draft," but it definitely thins out earlier than many teams would probably like. Devin White and Devin Bush are legitimate first-round talents, but Mack Wilson may be the only true second-round candidate, while a relatively small group of linebackers could fill out Rounds 3 and 4. There is decent backup/special teams depth available on Day 3.

this seems like an example of how recruiting journalists do their job.  hear one throwaway comment about a kid they know nothing about and then make definitive conclusions about it.  nicely done.

a great example of something our current qb will never, ever be capable of.

good thing dak makes plays like that all the time...

2 more examples proving you don't actually watch the games.

For the record Troy didn't "make plays like that ALL the time" either.

Good Lord everything about Dak to you? Shut the fuck up.

this is america’s team, sir, and I’m an american.  dak is not our standard.  we can barely win with him surrounded by talent.  when his contract destroys the roster we return to dave campo days.  but you don’t care because you’re a fucking traitor to our country.

Saw Twitter exchange between Ed Werder and Ben Rogers regarding Josh Rosen. Apparently, price is going down. They’re both interested in Cowboys moving on Rosen if they can get him with 90th pick. Anybody else interested?

can he throw a football downfield?

There’s no scenario where Josh Rosen could be had for pick 90. Not a chance.

Doubtful he goes for less than a pick in the top 50.  Also, you’d have backup making more than Dak.  That could present issues. Regardless, jerrah hates qb controversies so it’s a non-starter idea.  I think if wash gets shut out of top 2-3 QBs, they trade for him...

Oakland has a buttload of picks and probably won't use their first on a QB. They seem like a candidate to trade for Rosen. Not sure he's going to be traded, though, regardless of the top pick. If the price isn't right to move him, why not just keep him and let him compete, maybe wait for an emergency situation with a team more desperate after the draft. Let the alleged QB whisperer work his magic on him.

Everything I’m reading says the eagles love Hollywood Brown from OU and there’s no way he gets past them at 25. As someone who watched DeSean Jackson torch the cowboys for years, I don’t want that to happen.

They got Desean Jackson back, so having Brown may be duplicitous.  The "not enough" weapons excuse was bullshit last year.  They have 2 talented TEs (1 is a top 5 TE in the league), Jeffery, DJax, Agholor, and a cadre for RBs, of which they'll probably draft another one.   I have read they may draft another WR and try to trade Agholor, maybe this weekend.

Dallas' off-seasons are always meh to flat out disappointing. Ever since Jimmy left, Jerry has always allowed them to slightly degrade. With 2 exceptions - Deion & whatever year it was they loaded up but lost to the Giants when Patrick Crayton dropped that huge pass.
My point is -- Dallas never excites you. It's all free agency dissolution plus stop gaps. And thus, Dallas seems to repeat themselves. Average or good but rarely great and when momentarily or surprisingly great, they descend right back to the pack. As they did when losing Demarco Murray and as they did after Dak's rookie year.
Next year?? They made the playoffs last year & even won (by smartly acquiring Cooper) and did they follow that proximity to potential greatness up by smash moves in this off-sesson?? No, they subsequently deflated. As always.
They're between 8-8 & a wild card win or a divisional loss. That's it.
I don't believe.
We got quinn and cobb plus witten baby!!!

What you smokin....

I like the quinn move for another edge guy but others are meh...maybe cobb stays healthy and can help in slot

i actually like the qb from duke, i think he could have a good career as a starter if given the chance.  but yeah 1.6 was a headscratcher.

Didn't the Giants have another pick later in the 1st? I am pretty sure he would have been there then. Hell, Haskins was seen as the better QB and he didn't go until 15. This QB class was pretty meh overall. Not the class I'd like to reach that far for.

But as a Cowboys fan, I am pleased.

Redskins seemed to make some good picks yesterday. But they are still the organization who makes Dallas and Jerry seem competent so I'm sure it won't make a shit there.
