I assume you've read "Bowling Alone." Putnam was on to something.

My friend just did a European tour with his band last month, hit a bunch of cities all over Europe but none in UK. He said Paris and Rome are every bit as shitty and dangerous as advertised. I’d never ever go to either.

Sub-Educated Cretins: The SEC screenshot mega-thread
Ricky Butler replied to SimkinsMan's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
TL;DR - Schools in the SEC now find themselves in a system in which they no longer have a competitive advantage. They would like to go back to the system that allowed them to have an edge in personnel acquisition. -

Says the guy immersed in South Texas high school football. -
People keep saying this. Why? Dude's much more corporate and milquetoast than the Colbert Report made him seem. He's not John Oliver, who seems to take pride in daring people to sue him. He'll take his shots, maybe even drop the occasional bleeped out word--as he has been for 10 years to an agreeable audience--but he's not going to do anything to jeopardize the remaining paychecks for his staff. Not that I blame him, but it will continue to largely be the same song and dance in an antiquated format that it always has been. The timing is certainly suspect--and probably not coincidental--but expensive late shows coming to an end is an inevitability.

I'd like to see another player ala The U announcing from a hot tub with a bunch of girls. Players these days are soft. -

Such innovation, much future, much wow. -
That sucked, we lost fair and square. Second hardest lost after 2011 @ ISU. Of course, my problem with Baylor isn't wins and losses, it's that part where they covered up and enabled players to commit multiple rapes over several years and the head coach let it happen because they were playing well. Oh and the other part where a basketball player murdered another basketball player and the head coach instructed his players to lie and defame the deceased to avoid being caught committing recruiting violations.

Imagine caring or being hurt by what a kid does during their commitment ceremony, or even watching one of those in general. You guys have no lives. -

I get it, and it's frustrating as shit. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." Bullshit. You shove a hose down his neck and make him, in this instance. It's a regional public safety matter, and the State should take the lead. As it stands now, the patchwork quilt of flooding mitigation has too many holes in it. Some local governments have stepped up, but Kerr County made a conscious decision not to do so. Don't give them an option to be short-sighted and stingy fuckheads. None of the entities at any level (city, county, state) want any responsibility or accountability in this, which, ironically, makes them all fucking culpable. State leaders have been warned about it, and planners have been requesting it from all levels of government. Likely, what will happen is that they patch up a couple of holes and call it a day until the next tragedy in 5-10 years, when another Hill Country town gets flooded.

The argument for has always been to bring in the Metroplex, but in my mind that has been about as accurate as you bring in UH for the Houston market. Same thing historically has gone for SMU as well which brings us back to the uncomfortable truth this isn't about competition, the pageantry of college sports, rivalries and all that bull shit and cut to the chase it is simply about money and greed. The only question to me is how much longer until members of the SEC and the Big 1 0 start to turn on each other for bigger pieces of the pie because I have seen this story before and in the end the knives will come out.
