  2. Vienna is also a helluva good food town. You would expect it to be when maybe a third of the population was born outside Austria. We had some absolutely fantastic Asian and Middle Eastern food in Vienna. Last Thursday, though, we went to Doubek. It's really wild because they don't use any electricity or gas in the kitchen (apart from lighting). Everything is cooked on fire, either directly or indirectly in an oven. It's really cool to watch. Of particular interest to my Cajun and Cajun-adjacent friends @Brisketexan @Kyrie Eleison @Pescado_Rojo is what they did with the Carabinero. It's a prawn, but it looks a bit like a really long crawfish. Anyway, they cooked the thing and then tossed the heads into a press to extract the tamale, which was then made into a sauce. It was goddamned incredible.
  3. A lot of his production seemed to be schemed up stuff where all he had to do was catch the ball. Also needs to quit the volleyball sets on bullet passed that hit him in the hands. Very few probably remember this but the play before 4th and 13th against ASU, he caught a check down pass with 1 guy in front of him and ran out of bounds like he was trying to stop the clock. Small stuff like that pissed me off with him.
  4. "Bullet sponge" is fantastic.
  5. Trump: I don’t want to talk about that. Media: Oh…okay.
  6. what astros have gone on the DL this season and actually returned to the active roster? chas and ort? both of whom suck and won’t be on a playoff roster. i’m sure there are a few others but seems like not one actual contributor has returned.
  7. you must have missed the quoted post on the last page with umlang's thursday aggyfact the last aggy true road win (no neutral sites, no bowls) over a ranked opponent was 8 november 2014 (3914 days ago) at jordan-hare, aggy 41-38 barn elk absolutely needs a signature win to change their stars he will have to break that streak to do it good luck, we're all counting on you
  8. Is it the one that went off? Maybe? This puzzles me. Grenades have to have the initiating mechanism in place to go off. Screw out the initiating mechanism and it takes a lot to set off the filler. Surely explosives experts would have removed the initiators before moving them. I guess that if the grenade was very old and the filler was degraded it might be more sensitive and easier to set off, but it sounds to me like someone was playing around and got Darwined. CSB: My reserve unit went to MCAGCC 29 Palms for live fire training. The night before we returned, the entire battalion had a complete dump everything on the rack gear inspection to ensure that no one took home any C4, live ammo, or other dangerous souvenirs. One Marine in my company had two live smoke grenades and one high explosive hand grenade in his sea bag. He had another HE grenade in his ALICE pack. A Marine in another company had three 40mm grenades, one of which was white phosphorus, in his sea bag. Explosions and the explosives that cause them make people stupid.
  9. Vienna is full of actual history. It reminds the movie buff of Belloch's statement to Indiana Jones who is holding a bazooka to the Ark of the Covenant: "We are only passing through history; this is history." In the Imperial Treasury, you have the crown of the Austrian Empire dating back to the 17th Century. But in another room, there is the crown of the Holy Roman Empire, which dates to the mid-10th Century. Next to it they have a reproduction of Durer's woodcut of Charmlemagne wearing that crown. Charlemagne never wore that crown. It was made a few generations after Charlemagne died. It doesn't matter. It's cool. You also have all the relics. The Spear of Destiny. That's great. But you also have a tooth of St. John the Baptist and a piece of the tablecloth from the Last Supper. Oh, and a strip of Jesus's loincloth and one of the nails from the Cross. But those are of dubious provenance. What’s not are Charlemagne’s Bible and bag. These are things Charlemagne actually touched and used 1,200 years ago. In the Capuchin Crypt, you've got all the tombs. The saddest ones are the children. And there are a lot of them. And then there are the ones of the children with the mother who both died in childbirth. There's more than a few of those. The best though is Maximilian, Emperor of Mexico. He's down there. And his tomb is always decorated by visitors from Mexico. But if you are interested in history in Vienna, don't skip out on the Army History Museum. They have the car in which Franz Ferdinand was riding when he was assassinated, along with his bullet-pierced uniform.
  10. I spent two weeks in Georgia before I got out and haven’t been back since. The was in 1944.

    How am I here?

Enjoy it, recognize it, savor it. Things change, but that doesn’t mean you won’t stay here a while or return if things get tough. As Townes wrote, “Days, up and down they come Like rain on a congadrum Forget most, remember some But don't turn none away. Everything is not enough And nothin' is to much to bear. Where you been is good and gone All you keep is the getting there.” congrats, soak it up.
  16. Radar looks like it's just that one cell though, so hopefully we get some good chaos as the track dries.
  17. I think fans get too much in their feels about non-conf schedules in year 1 of a new coach We play UConn, Duke and in Maui. We also play a Virginia team with a brand new coach, like us. That wasn’t our choice, we don’t decide the SEC/ACC matchups Otherwise, this team has a new coach, new staff, a ton of transfers and the goal in year 1 is to make the tournament. Expecting this team to jell with a murderer’s row of non-conf scheduling is pie in the sky. Like Pancho said, Miller needs to instill his culture in year 1, have some success and stack some wins, make the tournament and then you can start demanding better non-conf schedules. We made the tournament last year with a pretty abysmal non-conf schedule (not much better than this year’s) and a super flawed roster with really mediocre coaching - had we not blown some of those games we had leads, or didn’t show up against bad teams, we likely have a much better seed than we did. We upgraded the roster and the coaching.
  18. Didn’t we already establish that spending any amount of money on political expression is protected speech under the first amendment?
