That's true. I have to keep telling myself that.  In the beginning, I topped out around 2.1.  I read some people getting 6+. Crazy.

Yeah, 2.9 has been my highest, but I am usually around 1.2 to 1.9 now, but test glucose more as keeping that low is more important to me.

So I had hit a bit of a stall the last week and a half or so. Was stuck at 241 and 242.

went out of town on Thursday and came back yesterday, didn’t exercise or do anything out of the ordinary except maybe a FEW more carbs than I typically have and ate twice on Friday. Got on the scale this morning and had crossed in to the 230s at 237.2.

79 pounds down since April 6. Feels fantastic man. Goal is to be 220 by October Vegas trip.

Lost 2 more lbs during the weekend.  So the is a total of 6 lbs in 7 days.  Kid got her braces off today so I told her I would make anything she wanted for dinner.  She wants burgers off the grill.  While I got stuff for them wasn't't there some recipe for a keto style burger someone had that was awesome?

After fighting fight delays and cancellations for 36 hours (thanks United), finally got home from a great vacation last night.  Stepped on the scale this morning and gained 5 pounds on vacation.  189.8 this morning.  Honestly, that's not nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be.  Right back on the Keto wagon today.  Going to be a rough few days getting back into ketosis and 16:8 IF but it's worth it.  Would like to get down to 180 over the next few weeks then stay there permanently.  Great job to everyone upthread this last week!

When I walked onto UT campus freshman year in 1987 I was 208. Haven't seen that weight since. That's my goal right now. 199 would be nice though. Real nice. Currently 234.

I was 213 in 6th grade. So my goal is somewhere around my 11-12 year old weight. Ha!

When I left UT in 2005 I was 191. I haven’t been in the 190s since 2009.

Keto guys, riddle me this.  I was in full on ketosis last week and into the weekend per the purple strips.  Started seeing that lessen and lessen starting Sunday.  Didn't really do anything to change my diet this weekend, except had some of that Rebel Ice Cream that's been discussed in this thread.  Haven't touched it since Sunday.

This has been my diet this week:

Mon - breakfast- 1 carb beef jerky plus cheese, lunch - chicken salad (just chicken plus mayo) and an avocado, dinner - grilled chicken with cheese, 1 carb pico and sour cream.

Tues - breakfast - 3 strips bacon, lunch - grilled chicken and cheese, dinner - grilled pork tenderloin and half cup broccoli

Wed - breakfast - scrambled eggs, lunch - grilled chicken and cheese, dinner - grilled salmon and half cup brussels

There are no snacks really other than some leftover grilled meat.  There are no hidden carbs like marinades or seasoning, I watch it like a hawk.

Yet, my keto levels are even less than Sunday.  I even got a breathalizer and it calculates to 1.0.

I'm still losing weight, down 1.5 lbs since Saturday (down 13.5 lbs in 17 days total), but not at a fast pace.

My carbs are absolutely below 20 net.  My only theory is that my fat/protein ratio is way off and that's knocked me out of ketosis.

This is my guess.  You might not be getting enough fat, especially the monounsaturated fatty acids found in avocados, olives, and the corresponding oils.

Checking in for the first time.  Life changes are being made.

History - Winter 2015 - 175 pounds, 5'8", about 10% body fat.  Met girl, started business, stopped working out 6 days a week.  I was in the best shape of my life.  Over the next 3 years I stopped running as well as stopped lifting.  Weight dropped to about 163 and then started to increase very steadily as my body fat went through the roof.

Today - Weighed in at 170, body fat is about as high as it can be at my height and weight.  Had some numbers run today at a sketchy Low-T Center and my total testosterone level was 211 ng/dl.  Apparently normal is 350-1000 ng/dl.  Prostate is great and I had all of my shit looked at and measured in June for a life insurance policy.  I'm healthy all the way around, just a big jar of lard compared to what I used to be.

I'm headed to an actual doc tomorrow to get my testosterone levels verified and if the numbers match I'll start some Test therapy.  I've got a gym membership and I've been to the mountain top before so here is my plan to get back.

Goal - Convert lard to muscle while gaining minimal weight, gain strength AND become more flexible.  Aesthetics will be a side effect of diligence.

Diet - Had great success with a macro approach 3 years ago.  I gained 10 pounds of hard muscle that time so I need to adjust to only gain 5 pounds or less this time.  I'll probably focus on 155g carbs per day, 190g protein, 75g fats, and 35-40g fiber.  I'm going to introduce a little bit of intermittent fasting to this so I won't eat my first meal until 1:30-2pm each day.  Going to have to drink shakes and eat yogurt to get it all done each day. But in a macro diet coupled with fasting I should be with a flexible menu as long as i'm strict on my numbers and my spacing between meals.

Exercise - For the first 2-3 weeks I'll work very light weight focusing on muscles that stabilize.  I don't want my shoulders to give out while i'm on the incline bench.  I also want to recover fast and train my body to be ready for the shock of bigger lifts so it can recover as I get stronger.  I'm going to use a reverse pyramid scheme after a warm up set and I'll be working in muscle groups.  A lot of guys want to get big and have "beach muscle."  I'm more of a guy who likes very functional muscle and size becomes a side effect of that.  As a warm up (besides low weight sets) I'll be on the stair stepper for 45-60 flights of stairs (depending on endurance) and then at the end of my workout I'll jog a mile on the treadmill.  I will also stretch for 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after each workout.  I should spend about an hour in the gym each day based on this (working out alone).

Something that I have done before that I might also take on would be HIIT.  That would take me out of the gym 2-3 days a week but would drop fat very quickly based on my last experience.  I'm going to see how my plan goes for 6-8 weeks and then possibly introduce HIIT if I'm not dropping the gut for a 6 pack.

Wish me luck, training starts tomorrow.  What... you thought I was going to start today?  That's like walking into AA sober.

You're still in ketosis.  You haven't been knocked out.  And you don't need to have high readings to lose weight. I'm a perfect example.  My readings are almost always below 1.0 and I'm still losing, albeit slowly lately.

1.0 is still in ketosis and you are losing weight so not sure the issue. The longer you are on keto, the lower your levels go but it still is working.

Re Low T: I’d be very wary of taking medical advice from a for-profit business that only makes money by recommending the only product they sell. Make sure you understand all the pros, cons, and risks, plus alternative remedies that may not be telling you about.

First Google hit on these articles. Lots more info out there I’m sure.

Nice work on your weight loss!

Aside from the snarky comment about all medicine being for profit I’ll go ahead and say that I quickly noticed that the low t center was a scam. From the people going in/out (all jacked dudes) to the order of operations it was easy to tell that you go in there to get jacked up. I called my doc and got an appointment scheduled with a specialist. If what they tell me is in line with the center then I’ll compare porcedures, costs, and products and we’ll make a decision. If not then obviously I’m going to go about things the healthiest way possible. I used to be very into fitness and wrote multiple research papers on supplements/steroids in college. I’m very aware of the consequences both good and bad. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to take something or not take something however.  That’s for me and professionals to decide based on my personal circumstances.

I will defend my going into that place though. I haven’t been right for a while and you have to start somewhere. I want to exhaust all of my options to be as healthy as I can be. I do appreciate the references though.

All of these articles and studies talk about men over 65 or the "average range" of men.

The average range includes men well into their 70s & 80s.  It's a range of men that have been tested by that lab.  It is not necessarily the range that you want to be in based on your age.  I'm only 35. I should not be compared to a man that is 75.  Doctors will see my T is the same as that old man and say, "you're in the normal range!"  No.  I'm not in the normal range for a 35 year old.

My Total T dropped to less than 200.  I'm on Clomid and since April my levels have gone from 204 to 535.  It's better.  I wish it was higher.  But losing weight and getting back in the gym should help push it even higher.

That is not actually how the science works. I have no qualms with you wanting to boost your testosterone levels, but they (doctors) are not comparing you to a 75 year old man.

Then how does it work?

Everything I've read says the reference range is created by each individual lab, and that includes all male patients regardless of age.

The above chart groups men into seven ten-year age increments. It’s based on results from this 1996 study

In a study done that same year by another team of researchers, they produced the following chart of testosterone levels broken down by age:

While this chart doesn’t show average free testosterone levels, I like the fact that it shows the T levels of men in the bottom five and ten percentiles as well as the T levels of the men in the top 95%. You can see how you compare to men with the lowest and highest T levels.

While doing some research I found the above charts on 2 different studies.  I'm 33 years old so I am definitely on the low end of the spectrum. That being said, I went in again today for a second test and I was just above the 350 threshold (365) for total T that the Low-T Center has.  I'm glad I have scheduled an appointment with and endocrinologist to get a better, more professional, picture of what is going on.  They plan on testing both total and free test as well as all of my other blood levels (liver/kidney/etc..).  We'll see what's going on and make the right call from there.  That is scheduled for Tuesday.

I’m hovering around 216. I haven’t weighed this since 2006, right before my wedding. More importantly, I’m down a pants size. I’m not watching the scale super close. I’m more interested in how my clothes are fitting, and right now, they are fitting better.

I went on vacation last week and intentionally threw diet to the wind.  Put on almost 4 pounds.  And now it is a battle to drop it back off.  My body is so ready to put back on what it begrudgingly gave away.

Good news is I have a colonoscopy coming up in early September that will flush me out pretty good.  Yay.

I have no idea how "low T" clinics handle anything. Actual medical professionals use actual study data that is age adjusted. Generally speaking, testosterone starts declining as men age. And medical professionals know that.  Also, it is possible that people that have low-normal levels of testosterone may benefit from testosterone supplementation, but there aren't any studies demonstrating that (that I am aware of).

I've never been to a Low T clinic. I'm using an endo.

I've had multiple doctors, and I've never seen them refer to any studies. They just look at the reference range given by the lab.

I have had a good week so far.  I had too many carbs Wednesday night, but it didn't hurt me.  OMAD hasn't really been happening since Wednesday.  But I just hit a new low for this year.  Lost 2 lbs just now mowing the weeds in my front and back yards.  Took about 90 minutes.  I weighed before and after.  Exactly 2.0 lbs.

That's 5.6 lbs since last Friday.  I've now lost 87 since January.  About to gain a couple back while I rehydrate and have my one meal.

I went vegetarian at the end of March and have dropped 20lbs without “dieting” but have since stalled. My question is; has anyone done a blood type diet and does it work?

When we moved into our house in 2002, our next door neighbor asked my wife's blood type.  Then proceeded to tell her all of the things that don't work with her blood type.  Next door neighbor is a fucking cuckoo - YMMV.

Use a blood monitor if you want to measure ketones.  The strips will measure at first when your body is dumping ketones into your urine. When it starts using them as energy, your urine won't register as high, but you will be in ketosis.  Stay below 20g net carbs and you will be in ketosis.

Pretty successful week back on the wagon.  183.9 this morning.  Lost everything I gained on vacation.  4 more pounds to go to get to my long term maintenance weight goal.  Business trip to Vegas for corporate meetings this week.  Going to do everything I can to stay in ketosis and stick with IF.  Really don't want a setback this close to my goal.  Should be interesting.

Checking in to say "fuck I'm sore."  Worked out every day since friday lightly on weights and on the stair stepper just to get a nice base layer of exercise going.  Weighed in at 167 this morning with no food in my belly and only 3 meals over the weekend.  Got a call this morning and do not qualify for test boosts.  No problem.  They recommended seeing my doc because of the drastic change in test levels between 2 blood draws and because I am at the bottom of the spectrum no matter what my tests showed.  I've got that scheduled this week.

Today I set my workout plan for when I have my body comfortable with weights again.  I'll start meal planning tomorrow.

TLDR:   i lost a bunch of weight by not eating.

Okay this is my first check in since Mid June i think.   Said i would hit 199 at end of July, well it took me an extra 20 days, but i made it.

Started March 1st of this year at 340 lbs.    This morning i weighed in at 199.8

Some statistics -

I am 6'1, 50 years old,   fairly thick guy, with thick thighs and calf muscles.  Was 44/46 waist size,  now 34/36 in cargo shorts.

Lost an avg of .81 lbs in that time.

For most of the time (March 18th through Mid July)  I fasted 6 days a week and had one meal on the eating day that was Keto.   Usually a chicken fajita salad with guac.

Since Mid July i have been eating Keto after every 2 days of fasting.   So monday tuesday fasting, wed have dinner with family, fasting Thursday and Friday, eat on sat. etc

Had a few slip ups along the way of course:

Went to isla mujeres in May, gained about 7-10 but lost it all a few days once i got back.   And also in June (i think) i really really blew it (documented on this thread somewhere) and took a week to take of that quick 17 lbs gained.    There were certainly a day or 4 that i slipped up as well, but mostly that meant that i was planning on fasting and i had my chicken salad a few days early

My plan going forward is to now fast one day and then eat Keto OMAD on the other.     I dont really need to lose anymore weight, so will see if i can maintain at every other day fasting for a bit, then after a month of that and assuming i can stay in the 190s - eventually just go to OMAD where i eat dinner with wife every night.

Some things i learned:

1)We don't need to eat nearly as much as we have been told.    2) I am a much happier person now, i should probably change my Mr. Drummond Pic.     3)Don't tell people you are fasting unless you want to discuss why you aren't about to fall over dead any second.     And really don't tell your 75 year old mother.   4)  even if you screw up (like i did in June) you can fix it fast.  5) get on the scale every morning.    6)don't let yesterdays bad decision lead to a today bad decision.   The classic "i ate bad yesterday so fuck it, i will start again next week"  7)your dick looks bigger and works a lot better not morbidly obese.

And once again a special shout out and sincere thank you to Bernard for discussing his fasting that sent me down this fasting road and to start doing research, which led me to Dr. Jason Fung on youtube and his books.     Fasting was tool in my tool box i didn't' know i had.

I mean, I could never do fasting, but that is amazing progress! Well done!

Amazing. I can't really imagine losing that much so fast. I hope to get back into fasting. I'll probably start today. Officially started at 6am.

I'll be taking those bitters and ursodiol 2-3 times a day to try and stave off more gallstones.

What were your free test and total test #s?  Most doctors will tell you that you are fine if youre over 300 but if you are between 300-500 you can still feel like shit, low energy, hard to shed fat etc.  I go to an anti aging clinic where the doctor is a hormones expert way more so than an endo or GP.  He won't recommend TRT if you are over 550 total but it is elective if you want it.  I feel much better at optimal test levels than i did back when mine was 300.

My problem right now is losing too much weight too fast.  Fasting + Keto rips the pounds off of you.  And it's easy.  When you aren't ever hungry, what's fasting?  It's a breeze.  I could easily go like Mr. Drummond and just hardly ever eat.

I'm down over 100 pounds since the start of the year.  Except now I've switched to eating more calories and weight lifting in a serious attempt to stall my weight loss.  Started noticing some loose skin and I absolutely do not want to end up as a human trash bag that flaps in the wind.

Holy shit. The student has become the master. 140 lbs is fucking awesome. I got complacent after 85-90 pounds. Maintained it, but I want to go further. Still trying to break a hundred. My ultimate goal right now is 140 pounds, from 324 to 185 at 6'5".

BTW. You've been on the Snake Diet without even knowing it. Check out Snake Diet guru Cole Robinson on You Tube.
