a) don’t be a coward.

Fuck you.  I tried posting on here for just a few weeks and realized this place is basically a burnt orange DemocraticUnderground.  I am glad that the posters here have refrained from neg repping me during this conversation.  It took me a year and a half of posting only on Food & Travel to get positive.

ii) the cool thing is, I don’t have to guess. They literally published something that told us exactly what they think. It said, functionally, “whatever Trump wants.” Seriously, that was the stated party platform.

The 2016 Republican Party platform

So, with the same candidate on the ballot, they didn’t change the platform?  What’s your point?

3) you want some? Ok - hollering about immigrants as the cause of literally all of our problems.

Drugs? The economy? COVID? Blame immigrants!

Well, Republicans DON’T do that, but maybe you’re listening to the wrong echo chamber.

But wait, they don’t have a problem with LEGAL immigrants, just illegals. Wait, what’s that, they then shifted the goalposts and are working like hell to cut off legal immigration, too?

This is incorrect.

Nazis marching in Charlottesville are good people? Supporters literally yelling “heil Trump?”

WTF?  So if a psycho asshole says BRISKETEXAN IS MY HERO, then you’re guilty for anything he does?

An orchestrated campaign to delegitimize all media that doesn’t blindly support the regime, using the exact “lugenpresse” play the Nazis ran? Come on, man. This is going to get even more embarrassing for you, because I have 100 more of these.

IV) funny thing….Godwin himself said “nope, it’s cool, compare them to Nazis, it fits.”

HAHAHA. Yeah… the Republicans/right control the media.  Torbush…

Some of us have read a book or two. We know the plays and systems that authoritarians run on their rise to power, including the Nazis. And we’ve watched, with horror, as they’re being run again, right here at home. Even including the brown shirts and a violent attack on the legitimate government. Remember that one? That’s what your party has wrought. And do they own it, and try to make good? No. They double down.

I read books too.

1984

A Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovitch

The Gulag Archepeligo

They call terrorists who literally attacked the heart of my government “tourists.” They fight any investigation or accountability.

Nah…they’re an “idea”.

Because all of the attacks on federal buildings for 2 years where they destroyed and burned property and all the personnel had to evacuate was not a big deal - because the right wasn’t doing it.

If you stand with a party that supports those things, or the the better LEAST…those aren’t dealbreakers for you….then I know all I need to know about you.

Don’t know what party you stand with but I don’t stand with that stuff…

I am a patriotic american. I love my country. And I hate - and I mean hate - those who attack it, and those who support, enable, and excuse them. You may as well be supporting, enabling, and excusing Al Qaeda.

I mean, if you want to know which “conservative values” I still hold dear, and why they mean that I hate the Republicans and those who support them. You fucking asked. I’m telling.

Hey…support your version of fascism.  I’ll just disagree with you.

This post has multiple lies.
When you claimed republicans don’t blame illegals for covid spread was that true or was that a lie?

Both groups were stupid.  However, one is still in control of two thirds of the government.

What are the "lies" in that post?  Please don't include differences in opinions/views/etc.

And what would be the lie about illegals spreading covid?

It's been widely reported that most of the people that have illegally crossed the border have not been tested for covid before being released.  That's several hundred thousand people.

FWIW, if you - a US Citizen - cannot enter the US from another country without providing CBP with a negative Covid test performed in the last 72 hrs, why would that not be the standard for anyone coming across the southern border?  It's been stated by the US government that the purpose of requiring those 72 hr negative covid tests are to stop the spread of covid....

Let's see here.  What's the difference?  Oh yes, CBT doesn't have the resources to test every undocumented immigrant crossing the border on their own.  They do test anyone with symptoms, though.

From the NY Times earlier this year:

Quote

John Modlin, the interim Border Patrol chief for the Tucson sector, said it took 90 minutes to three hours to process each migrant, including fingerprinting, gathering personal information and running a background check. Testing for the coronavirus and waiting for results would add another 20 minutes, he said.

“That’s 20 minutes times a thousand people,” Mr. Modlin said. “The Border Patrol does not want to get in the business of testing or inoculating people.”

Dr. Pritesh Gandhi, the chief medical officer at the Department of Homeland Security, said that “operational limitations” have precluded doing virus testing “on the front end,” but that medical teams are working intensely with nonprofit groups and local officials to make sure migrants are screened immediately and tested later, a strategy that he said was starting to show results with fewer people getting sick.

“At the earliest possible moment we can do something about it, we test,” he said in an interview. “And so there are limitations. The question that any public health operator has to ask is, ‘What is the earliest point you can effect change?’”

In a few cities, a contractor hired by Immigration and Customs Enforcement has begun to conduct coronavirus testing of migrants after their release from the Border Patrol and is arranging isolation space in hotels for those who test positive.

* * * *

The Biden administration has continued to expel many who have entered the country without authorization, using a public health emergency law initially invoked by former President Donald J. Trump.

But the government of Mexico has refused to take back families traveling with children under the age of 7 along large stretches of the border with Texas. It has also rejected returns of migrants from outside Central America, who represent a growing number of crossers — many of them from Ecuador and Brazil, countries still hit hard by the coronavirus.

Even so, "There have been no instances of mass spread at U.S. border facilities, and overall numbers of cases are relatively low, according to the Department of Homeland Security. About 5 percent of all single adults and families tested after their release since March showed a positive result, according to the agency, while among the thousands of unaccompanied minors now in custody, the rate has been about 12 percent."

My wife and I just opened a bottle of champagne that we actually bought to celebrate Biden’s win, but for whatever reason never opened. Figured an end to this horrid season on a win was as good a reason as any.

Point is, I realized how sad it is that we bought a bottle of champagne to celebrate a political win. Not because of policies (well, not entirely), but more because that win in 2020 represented the American people rejecting (barely) the embrace of hate and immaturity and the general support of acting like a complete piece of shit.  Sure, I generally agree with progressive policies more than conservative ones, but policies have by and large been secondary since 2015. This isn’t what politics are supposed to be about, but the GOP made it so.

Also add "control".

Last time I checked the Democratic Party controlled the Executive Branch and one arm of the Legislative Branch (House of Representatives).  While they technically hold a majority of the Senate with the VP as its president pro tem, they don't control the Senate on beyond budget reconciliation and Supreme Court confirmations (due to the filibuster rule).

it's part of the reason why it took him so long to answer the goddamn "was the election stolen?" question.

i happen to think that he didn't allow himself to see it. i mean, he saw it, but he knew the answer and skipped right over it because his brain is broken because of trump.

you see the same shit with bravo, but he's a bad actor, and very close to being a troll. ag with kids is not a bad actor. he is a fool, yes, but he genuinely thinks he is right and his mind will not allow him any semblance of critical thought.

it's fucked up, but that's what i think is happening here.

I'm starting to think otherwise, based solely on today's posts.

I remember a very interesting panel discussion from back when I was a government major. Had a wide array of schools of thought represented, but the two that stood out as cult-like and insipidly stupid were the libertarian who wouldn't admit that for-profit medicine leads to the population at large not being able to afford healthcare, and the communist who claimed that unemployment doesn't exist in communist countries.

Ag with kids demonstrates the same degree of grasp of reality.

Then, there's no need to vote for a dangerous narcissist like Trump if Biden isn't going to immediately throw us into  . . . (checks notes) . . .  "full blown socialism."

If liberal policies are so bad, they can be undone, or, if Republicans would act in good faith, tempered into actual good policies.  I'll probably never vote Republican again as long as I live, unless they get their shit together and repudiate Trumpism.  But I have no illusions that they'll hold onto power long enough to enact all of their agenda, as if it is some monolith.

But, I think it's vitally important to keep Republicans out of office until Trump and trumpism are extinct, or nearly so.

The thing I notice is how insular Aggie alum are. They start off with the whole "you don't get us because you aren't us" thing, and so they really don't branch out unless they absolutely have to. The ones that do end up being pretty well-rounded and reasonable. The ones that don't seem to have a shell that just gets more and more difficult to penetrate.

I am afraid the old guard ags are in for a rude awakening. The student body is getting more diverse. Ironically they are a “victim” of their own success in terms of academic rigor. Also, the undergrad women aren’t the type you would see at liberty or even Baylor, etc. My daughter has several friends who are at A&M or are seriously considering going, and they are all center or left of center politically. Which the red asses will interpret as effing commies taking over.

The good thing is that Section 3 of Article 1 helps to prevent the stupidity of the House...

The entire process for BOTH impeachments was partisan.  The Democrats in the House employed the process for political reasons.

And if you're going to try to play silly games, then, yes.  The first impeachment WAS bipartisan.  Two and three Democrats voted with ALL Republicans against the impeachment articles.

That's the bipartisan criteria you're using, right?  If a small number of the opposing party votes for something even though it's passed by overwhelming support by the nominating party?

Now, a question for YOU...Was the impeachment of Clinton partisan or bipartisan?

Impeachment isn’t overturning an election, GTFO. Dems HATED W and the dude’s hobby was “poorly conceived war” and he made it. The GOP even managed to live through 8 years of a Black president and didn’t file impeachment papers. DJT got impeached for good reason.
