  1. I told an old friend of mine a few months back that if she'd ever told me I'd be a single-party voter, I'd never have believed it, and if she'd told me that it'd be for the Democrats, I'd have laughed at it. And yet, here we are. I did so, so that Congress would do what they are supposed to do in this situation, and what they are doing now: Act as a check on presidential authority. In the long run, I don't blame Trump for being Trump. I don't even blame the voters for Trump. I absolutely blame Mitch McConnell and the GOP members who are enabling him and refusing to assert the authority they have. And if you're a Republican right now, you need to be as terrified of what's going on as the Democrats are: When a Democrat is elected president, do you want that person wielding, unchecked, the power that Trump is attempting to wield right now? Trump's efforts must fail, because if they do not, there is nothing preventing a Democrat president from, say, taking away all of your guns, locking up churches, doing whatever he wants because of made-up "Emergency Powers." Like Cohen said: Trump's not in this for you, he's in it 100% for himself. He doesn't care what he destroys along the way. Congress opposing him successfully is ultimately going to protect your interests as well as mine. I didn't stop being Conservative. The GOP did.

  2. In our initial years together, I often suggested to my wife that bringing another woman into the relationship would preserve her body, keep her rested, able to focus on our kids, etc. Selfishly, she never would listen to reason. Now, after more than a quarter of a century together, she's starting to get worn down. I'm a regular Nostradamus.

  3. Fine, fine. From EJ in a Kroger parking lot - EJ's numbers are low b/c of his marriage + honeymoon, so he's had to pump out a lot more articles lately. Apparently he's buying groceries to cook vegan chili tonight. EJ's wife has him on a diet even though he's 175 lbs. - Buy/Sell: Texas lands 2 of Ringo, Flowe, Milton, and Smalls. EJ would pass on that bet, 2 of them is tough but realistic. Ringo has been to Texas twice and is the best bet w Westbrook as his current coach and Beck as his school's former coach. Him and Milton will both be back for official visits, probably. Others are longer shots because they haven't visited. They probably won't be a package deal. - Texas will continue to recruit at a national level. Lathan Ransom is another potential visitor, as is Damien Sellers. Johnny Wilson said he never considered going OOS until Texas came calling. - EJ's not sure why A&M backed off of CTJ. He had a terrific junior season and Fisher visited his high school a lot, but then contact dropped off and Texas is in the best spot to land him. - Most under-rated prospect so far is Joshua Eaton, outside the Texas top 50. Lot of P5 offers w/ A&M adding their name tonight. Another underrated kid is Jerrin Thompson from Lufkin, great as a nickel prospect. Thinks Texas should take a harder look at him. - Eaton and Watts are very similar players. Watts is a bit thicker, Eaton is more athletic. Both very raw in their technique. Would put them in the same rankings range. - Demond Demas apparently joined the Periscope, along with Tommy Brockermeyer who had a dominant day in Dallas. - Majors will be a very good center. EJ is OK with his drop in the rankings, he's very intelligent and a potential multi-year starter but won't wow you with his athletic traits or upside. - Charles Wright from Austin High is a kid Roach likes. Could be a guy that rises. - EJ now getting grief for the Noah Cain saga. - Regarding receivers, Texas is in a great spot with Johnny Wilson. Troy Omeire and Demas are the two elite in-state WRs, and Texas is in a tough dogfight with A&M for both with Demas already an A&M commit. Troy is visiting Texas on March 9th and it'll be huge in his recruitment. UT is in a good position with Quinten Johnston (recently got a rankings bump) and JJ Hester out of Oklahoma. - Something about BBQ, and Whataburger vs. In-n-Out. - EJ would take Johnny Wilson over Demond Demas. Demas is a better athlete with a higher ceiling. Wilson is a more polished prospect and is gigantic. What stands out for Johnny is his route-running. Doesn't struggle to get in and out of breaks like Brennan Eagles did, he glides through his routes. Can't go wrong with either. - EJ is close to putting in Texas CBs for Johnny Wilson but he wants to wait and see with him. Washington and Oregon are the two biggest threats. Could legitimately run a 4.5. - EJ still thinks JaQuinden Jackson should be a five-star. Next Cam Newton, etc. etc. Not expecting an early commitment. Texas should tell him he can play any position "because he's awesome". - O-line needs for the 2020 class have been addressed, in a good spot with D-line as well. Need corners. - Princely Umanmielen joined the Periscope, asked EJ if he's into fashion. EJ reeled off some brand names. - Texas wants to bring in Damien Sellers for a visit. EJ doesn't pay to go for tournaments, his expenses are covered as a 247Sports reporter for the most part. - Darnell Washington is a real-deal, five-star stud. Was awesome this weekend. - @OnAComputerrecommended that EJ visit P. Terry's Burger Stand. EJ absolutely hated it, said it was a 'trash burger'. More BBQ talk. - EJ really likes Josh White. Another down year for LBs in-state but White's a brought spot along with Brennon Scott. Similar to David Gbenda. - EJ's wife still disagrees with him over his hairstyle. EJ would never move to Austin, says he's 'team Dallas'. - Jase McClellan will be tough to flip from blOU. Texas should have offered him earlier, they may have secured his commitment first. - Texas will take two safeties and a nickel. This is not as good of a DB class in-state as 2018 but it could be comparable. Lorando Johnson, RJ Mickens, CTJ, and Dwight McGlothern are EJ's favourite in-state DBs this cycle.

  4. Pork Bolognese Basic ingredients - 2 carrots, 2 stalks celery, half an onion, few cloves garlic... Not pictured - olive oil, butter, ground meat (you can use anything), tomato paste, milk, white wine, pasta, parmigiano reggiano. Get a few tablespoons EVOO and about a half a stick of butter good and hot... Add chopped onion, celery and grated carrots and sweat that down on medium heat for 10 minutes or so or until they all start getting kind of translucent... Brown some ground meat (I used pork) then mix in chopped garlic, couple tablespoons of tomato paste, about a cup of while milk and about a cup of white wine... Reduce that down for about 20-30 minutes or until it's closer to a paste and less of a soup... Add pasta - I used tagliatelle but you can really go with just about anything here... Mix it all together to finish the pasta in the sauce with copious amounts of fresh grated parmigiano reggiano... Serve with a little chopped fresh basil and more parmigiano reggiano because you can never have too much of that...

  7. To be fair, I was one of those guys who thought Clinton should've been impeached and convicted for perjury. And I'm one of those guys who thinks Trump should finish his term from the inside of a very dark prison cell. Call me weird, but I expect the president to not commit crimes, before OR during his time in office. Whether there's an R or a D next to his name is irrelevant. And it shouldn't be relevant.

  8. No. Just no. MSNBC has left leaning commentary mixed in with news reporting that is filtered through a liberal viewpoint. CNN has pretty middle of the road news reporting. They’re commentators are 75% left leaning. Then the bend over backwards to pacify the nutters cauterwalling about “fake news” and hire people like Santorum and Sarah Isgur. Haven’t heard about Isgur? CNN is basing its business model on this “false fairness” - trying to straddle the middle by have Trumpkins and leftists to grab viewers from both ends. To compare either to Fox is just lazy. As bad as CNN and MSNBC can be neither of them make up things out of thin air, ignore actual news in favor of pushing some bullshittery about a caravan invasion/MS-13/infant slaughter/whatever scare old people topic of the week, report on conspiracy theories as if they were facts (Seth Rich/Comet Pizza/Jade Helm), allow an on air personality to lie on air about people stalking and attacking his home and let him keep his job and never correct that lie or apologize, allow an on air personality to call immigrants dirty and diseased and keep their job, allow on on air personality to expose personal information about a teenager who survived a mass shooting because she doesn’t like his politics and keep her job, employ Lou Dobbs. Fox News is actual propaganda and literal lies wrapped in a blanket of racism and sexism dipped in stupidity. The others aren’t even close. When CNN runs a story about the Trump kids involvement in a shady murder cover up and how Ivanka’s purses are used to smuggle in foreign children for their Park Avenue sex cult, then we can compare.

  10. This is the difference. Fox isn't a news channel that has decided to target its opinion programming at a right-leaning audience. Fox is a propaganda network that intentionally uses its straight news reporting to deceive its audience and promote a false narrative. The Fox News audience is less knowledgeable about the news and what is going on in the world than people who don't watch or read the news at all. They deliberately misinform their audience in order to push an ideological agenda. Regular news outlets (be they cable news, newspaper, websites, etc.) are certainly subject to internal biases and various pressures that shape their coverage. Wherever you work, there's pressure to present stories that people are interested in, because you've got to make money. Editorial bias certainly plays a role at any news outlet in terms of determining whether to cover a story and how much time/space to devote to it. Someone has to make a decision on those things and that person is more likely than not at any honest news outlet to be liberal-leaning, because many fewer conservatives want to be journalists (there's a reason aggy closed their journalism school). And MSNBC certainly made an executive-level decision very on in its existence to have its opinion programming cater to a left-leaning audience. Hell, they may have even thought of themselves back in the late 90s as the left's version of Fox News. But MSNBC, and CNN, and the NY Times, and the Washington Post, and every other legitimate news outlet have policies and procedures in place to ensure that they adhere to journalistic standards. They don't deliberately push propaganda and they don't try to shape a narrative for political reasons. That doesn't mean they won't attempt to play into a popular narrative with real reporting, which MSNBC certainly does with the Russia story for example. They need viewers and the Russia story is very popular among the cable TV news audience. It also happens to be an extremely newsworthy topic that continually has new stories coming to light. It's a news gold mine and the fact that everything that is revealed makes Trump look worse and worse isn't their fault. That's wholly different from what Fox does. Fox frequently prevents its "straight news" types from covering stories that are damaging for Republicans even when they are extremely newsworthy. It promotes stories that aren't very newsworthy into headline news if they make liberals look bad. They launder insane internet bullshit like Jade Helm into real "news" by discussing it first in their opinion shows and then covering their opinion show's discussion in their "straight news" programming. They are in every sense of the term a propaganda network.

  11. You say it now, and you probably believe it, too. Casual. Oh casual, how I admire the youthful sound of it! And to think I, too, was once of those carefree young school boys, casually checking in from time to time. Oh lookie there, another big class of tight ends. How many is that now? 8, 9? Mack's got his eye on the tight ends, no doubt about it. But little do you realize, you've already been afflicted. The recruiting thread has casually made its way into your brain and guts. It's there, feasting. You are completely fucked. Problems? What problem? Yes, sure, I did travel 75 miles to attend the Aledo playoff by myself to see this running back I've heard so much about. Brown and Gray. Thunder and Lightning, my god we'll be unstoppable! Woke up sweating, a nightmare where Jordan pulled his commitment and chose Ohio State. I keep notes on all the players I've scouted this season in my notebook. Want to see? Clint Hurtt. He's a goddamn rainmaker! Show cause my ass - Texas should fight it! Still on the computer at this time of night... watching a periscope of two linebackers on an official visit at another school. What's that? I need a drink. What? Walk-on? Walk-on! I said PREFERRED walk-on, you shit smear. It's a completely different category!

  17. You know what, let's forget all about collusion and Russians. None of that happened. Are you good with everything else that has transpired with this President? Would you accept a Democratic president doing the same exact things while in office? Are you ok with a President never, ever releasing his taxes? You good with possible tax evasion by the Commander in Chief? How about insurance fraud? You ok with this too? How about conspiracy to commit fraud against the United States, by paying off women the President has slept with prior to an election. Is that acceptable behavior for a President in your eyes? Point I'm making. You bitches all want to point your fingers and say stupid shit like "Where's Russians and collusion" while conveniently ignoring every other questionable and criminal act that is going on under your noses. That's the real collusion.

  25. here's what i don't get, and i didn't see a single conservative, in congress or in surly, connect the dots and comprehend the logic. every single republican, all down the line, unanimously used their time to discredit cohen and make sure the American public understood what a sleazy, slimy, piece of shit, liar liar pants on fire lawyer he was. yet, our president liked him, trusted him, confided in him, deemed him to be of sufficient character to carry his daily dealings. this is a man our president trusted and paid for 10 yrs. if he's such a piece of shit, what does that make the president? he was the presidents personal attorney for 10 years, and they think he's a lowlife scum and a shitpoor lawyer, yet they blindly cant put two and two together and comprehend what this says about the president. do they think the president is an innocent, wise, all knowing, all powerful, pure as the driven snow gentleman, and didn't know for 10 yrs his shitass lawyer was a shitass lawyer? is their take on this that cohen took advantage of the president? that trump wasn't awarer of Cohen's character? no man, that's not the way this went down. the president is a lowlife scum, scheming, conniving, slimy, sleazy piece of shit, and he asked his attorney to carry sleazy, lowlife scum activities on his part. checks cashed for 10 yrs to prove it.

  26. FOX isn't slanted to the right. It is the media outlet for whatever GOP is in office or the constant adversary of any Dem that is in office. FOX has a policy of distortion and lying and have hired known liars (Oliver North) to put on the air. It's not a matter of degree of difference in what is bad about these news stations. It's a matter of species difference. FOX apologists (I don't label you one) compare CNN's failures to meet a standard of objectivity with FOX's not even having such a standard. Cable TV news is an intolerable shit show to me. CNN follows the lead of the print media in finding a story and then beats it to death with panel after panel of experts and pundits. CNN is more of a clearing house than a news organization. MSNBC is an answer to the rabid right that has now seized the GOP. It's largely opinion and doesn't try to hide that fact. They have embraced a slant, but it's honestly done. Again, show after show about the same story makes it only watchable when I know almost nothing about the leading story of the day. Maddow is invaluable for bringing a person up to speed. If you're already up to speed, it's a maddening slog. FOX fatuously claims: We report, you decide. I'll repeat something I wrote years ago on Hornfans. Their motto should be We report, you ignite. They're not remotely concerned with meeting any standard for anything except keeping hold of the angry right wing viewers that make them tons of money.

  28. There's not a movement demonizing masculinity. There's a moment demonizing those who utterly fail at it. Incels, ignorant dipshits who don't have the balls to move where the jobs are, ignorant dipshits who take no responsibility for their own fate (hint: dropping out of high school to be a coal miner wasn't a sound choice) but instead blame nameless brown people for their suffering, etc. etc. If you're secure in your masculinity, don't feel the need to flex it at the expense of other human beings, and take responsibility for your own shit and solve your own problems, 1) you're a man, and 2) nobody's shitting on you for it. The GOP has old white males. And it has some younger gutless losers, too -- the types who need to pose and talk tough as a substitute for actually BEING tough.

  31. In Garry Wills' Cincinnatus, a nice book about George Washington, he writes of how Washington was maybe the most popular man in the Western World. The statues memorializing him almost always show him extending a rolled up scroll. As with Cincinnatus of Ancient Rome, after saving the nation and being offered permanent dictatorship, he returned power to the state and returned to his farm. Washington was admired greatly for his humility and dedication to the principles of democracy. He, to me, remains the greatest American. It's a shame that he has been turned into an unreachable grim marble statue of a man.
