  1. Most people don't realize that the band "Jefferson Airplane" took it's name from Thomas Jefferson's airplane.

  2. RD can give you the specifics, but the cliff’s notes are that they claim 1/3 of the PUF as their endowment (which they can’t spend, that would be the AUF), and they claim of the system school’s endowment including PVA&M as their endowment. They double dip and claim both the bond money they get and the donations used to pay for the bonds for their new tackle box as revenue for athletics but never claim the actual cost of construction, interest, or repayment. They still owe the university money even after all of these years of “profits”. Basically aggy does the opposite of what UGA did and claims to be super profitable when it’s all just smoke a mirrors since they never claim any of the debt they incurred in the books of the AD. Also they just recently begged the state for more money during the lege session because they didn’t realize that growing from 45k students to 65k student would cost more money. They pay less for professors than most other schools, even less than UH, and their acceptance rate and student per class ratio are some of the highest in the state. Basically it’s a shitty school that’s acting like they have a bunch of money but when you actually look past the façade you realize it’s a glorified clown college in the middle of a city where it’s biggest landmark is a water tower surrounded by Soviet style architecture at its finest.

  3. "Trump is a monster. As a christian how can you even think about supporting him?" "Oh he's not perfect but God forgives us all." "Actually, Trump has said that he's never asked for forgiveness. For anything." "Oh. Well, there's an (R) next to his name so fuck it."

  4. I was reading the Victoria Advocate yesterday (gimme a break, I'm at my grandparents and they are in their 80s. Local paper is all they have) and it had an article that detailed this year's AG subsidies. 3 families in Victoria County received almost $250k each in subsidies for cotton to make up for the trade war with China. That's enough government handout for over 30 SNAP families for the year (assuming that a family uses $2k of SNAP a month, so worst case SNAP), but hey, it's a handout for Trump voters to make up for Trump policy, so that makes OK. Biggest meltdown I ever witnessed was when I was at a friend's family dinner in 2010. The olds were R, a large chunk of the Youngs were D. The automotive bailout was brought up and they olds were talking about letting them fail because any business that needs the help of the government shouldn't survive, but then the Youngs brought up the banks being bailed out and that was the trigger point of all trigger points. Most of the olds either worked for a bank or had inheritance from family members that worked at a bank and their inheritance depended on the bank's survival. They went from leaning back and sipping on their coffee to elbows on the table, shouting and pointing about how the world works. Bailouts for me, not for thee.

  6. Fuck that. The same bullshit over and over gets tiresome. We all know this coaching staff has its issues wrt recruiting. Posting it over and over and over is a beating.

  7. At some point, Democrats are going to figure out that Barack Obama didn't pick Joe Biden because they're political soulmates. Obama picked Biden as part of a cynical calculation that he needed a running mate who could reassure working-class white that it'd all be ok to vote for a black guy. Joe Biden wasn't chosen notwithstanding his retrograde views on race. He was chosen because of his retrograde views on race.

  8. Probably. But he's not wrong here. Trump declined $25 Billion for his wall in order to deny a path to citizenship for 2-year-olds brought here 20 years ago. They're educated, they work, pay taxes, aren't criminals, and by every objective measure are productive members of society. But they're brown. We can't have that. Trump has increased the flow of migrants by threatening to close the border and to restrict the criteria for amnesty. (Sorry, the possibility that you might get killed if you don't flee your country just might not cut it anymore.) And by cutting off aid to the home countries of the migrants. He's encouraged illegal border crossings by restricting access to legal points of entry to asylum seekers. Trump has unquestionably made the problem worse. A reasonable person might conclude that he did so intentionally for purely political purposes, so that he can make the crisis seem more severe. I mean, if he solved the problem, what would he campaign on in 2020? The only other possibility is that he's a rank incompetent who hasn't a fucking clue what he's doing. And if that's your take then you might be right. It's hard to say. Because he is without question a complete fucking moron.

  9. Hopefully people are starting to realize that the president "can" do whatever people let him do. Our institutions are only as good as the people who run them. The Senate has abdicated virtually all of its authority to Trump. The House, even run by Dems, is too scared to hold him accountable. The lower courts are trying to uphold the law, but the Supreme Court is bending over backwards to let Trump do whatever he wants. Without more, the Constitution and our laws are just words on paper. They can't stop the president from doing jack shit. Who is going to step up?

  13. ORLY? More analysis, with tables illustrating the balance of payments, including Kentucky's at about $40B, or $9100 for every man, woman and child in the state. that's not surprising because Red States are generally more dependent than blue states. Yes, I pay Federal income taxes, not that it's relevant to anything. There's your fact check, so go ahead and piss right off with your "virtue signalling" bullshit.

  14. Lots of discussion about the inability of this staff to maximize resources/opportunities. The counter to that is the possibility TH doesn't view it the same way and instead sees staff continuity, culture and program as the key to long term success. The chart below depicts Clemson's rise under Dabo. As most have read, he's been very loyal to his assistants and notorious for valuing staff continuity and culture/program above all else. I'm not trying to say TH will have the same success, just offering there's more than one way of building a program. Bama/UGA do it one way, Clemson did it another. 17. Trust me, I’m no SEC advocate, but I’m almost positive that 95% of the conference has called all bets off when it comes to aggy. They’ve dodged bowl games against opponents that would probably beat them because they begged the conference to do so in order to “broaden their recruiting element in Tennessee, North Carolina, or Florida”. Unfortunately, they lost that “element” to Wake Forest in North Carolina, and unfortunately, lost their recruiting edge in Texas to Kansas State in 2016. Sorry aggy, I’m pretty sure even the conference is done bailing your ass out of your own shit. Fuck you.

  19. For some additional perspective, the Obama family detention initiative —which, note, did not include systematic family separations — was launched on June 20, 2014. Over the ensuing months, the left rose up against it and lawsuits were filed. By May 2015, most Dems in Congress, plus candidate Hillary Clinton, were publicly calling on Obama to halt the program. A federal judge ordered it to be halted on July 24, 2015, which was the beginning of the end. So, 13 months for opponents of the policy to achieve success. In comparison, Jeff Sessions announced the administration's "zero tolerance" policy on April 6, 2018, although the family separation policy actually started on a smaller scale in July 2017. Even using April 2018 as the start, we are 15 months in and it is getting worse and worse. 15 months until they started getting called concentration camps. With no members of the president's party calling for the end. So, even aside from the fact that Trump's policies are significantly worse than Obama's, and even aside from the fact that the left did vocally oppose Obama on the issue at the time, the timeline is an additional reason why the rhetoric is getting more heated right now. And rightfully so.

  21. The doubling down on ignorance as we run headlong into a climate crisis is just soooo apropos for this administration. Every one of these wholly corrupt, regulatory-capturing, tax-cuts-for-me-but-not-for-thee traitors need to be strung up on the national mall.

  22. I don't know, man. I will tell you that I've had just one occasion to really piss off a federal judge. It's been about ten years, but I remember it well. Judge Boyle looked down at me and said, "Mr. [Ghost], I know you're new on this case. And I know your client isn't here, and he's the one who is responsible. But he's not here. You are. And you're here representing him. So I'm going to tell you something . . . ." She then told me some things that had me go straight back to the office, go into my supervising partner's office, and tell him that we needed to withdraw from the case or else resolve it fast enough that we never again had to go back before Judge Boyle. And my client didn't do a fraction of what the DOJ has done in this case. Here's the thing--as a lawyer who appears in court (whether it be trial courts or appellate courts), credibility is the currency in which you trade. But credibility isn't like currency. You can't spend it to buy stuff. If you spend it, it's gone forever. And you can't get more. Only by hording it can you get actual currency. Being Solicitor General of the United States brings a lot of credibility. That credibility gets transferred to a private firm one day, at which the erstwhile Solicitor General can charge $1,000/hour. But a former Solicitor General who has been caught lying to the Supreme Court? A lawyer who has no credibility in the one forum in which I'm going to pay him to represent me? Well, that lawyer aint worth shit. If I'm that guy, I'm resigning on Monday and taking my cush-ass job in the private sector immediately.

  29. You sound like a bundle of fun. It’s not my thing, but my kids like watching them and playing with the small stuff. Our neighborhood puts on a big display every year which keeps them occupied. When I was a kid, my dad dumped tons of money into fireworks and made sure he had some every time he could shoot them. However, he only drank sweet tea, Budweiser, and Jack Daniels so your white trash analogy may still be applicable.
