  1. The degree to which we have degraded the Russian Army and Air Force, at the expense of exactly 0 American lives and only a rounding error in the federal budget, is amazing. Our military has taken a lot of shit over the past 20 years, because fundamentally it was asked to do something it's not good at. We're not the Soviets; we're not very good at installing friendly governments and then crushing a populace to keep that government in charge. And somehow people took that to mean that the American military isn't that great. This is showing that not only are we that great; we're even better than that. The United States armed forces doesn't just have the best equipment; it has the best logistics, the best tactics, the best intelligence, and the best technology in the world. And it's not even close. People were running around talking about a multipolar world, and the ascendency of Russia and China. Aint no motherfucking multipolar anything. And anybody who thought differently was fooling themselves. There is one single hyperpower. And that's it. The only times anyone could reasonably fool himself into thinking otherwise is when the hyperpower decides to trip over its own dick. But there's no dick-tripping right now. And this is a helluva message to send to countries like China and Iran.

  4. This old tanker is green with envy. Every tanker dreams of that breakthrough and rolling up on rear echelon troops. Team Spirit 89 in Korea during an attack exercise, my battalion command spotted a weak point with a low draw that was only defended by a small infantry force because the opfor seemed to think tanks couldn't get in and out of the low ground. We could and rolled the whole battalion with a supporting mobile infantry company through there. We came out of nowhere and burst out of a small forest onto a battery of ROK towed artillery that was 5 klicks behind the lines and watching those cannon cockers shit themselves as we shot the shit out of them (MILES gear) was one of my best days in uniform. They pretty much stopped the whole operation at that point and reset for the next day. That was a good after action review session.

  6. In the Marines we have a term called "Violence of Action" and every Marine could recite verbatim the Marine rifle company's role, which is to "Locate, Close with, and destroy the enemy by superior firepower and maneuver." This is the basic tenant of Maneuver warfare. The term "violence of action" which is used by most infantrymen and SOF units is a tactic specifically focused on rolling up and hitting enemies in the face to cause panic and hopefully disrupt any plans while preventing them from gaining any breathing room for collecting themselves. This is how we've been successful at hitting HVTs and toppling governments over the past decades. A physical shock and awe if you will, but on the ground not with bombs. We're seeing the Ukrainians successfully doing this over the past 3 days, and can see the result of this approach. You hit them fast, hard, and then capitalize on the gains and keep hitting them until they force you to stop. We've been hearing a lot of US trainers, US "wargaming" it out with Ukraine, and even the Ukrainian MoD mentioned they were "trying something new" in Kharkiv. So it really makes me wonder if this was the result of those wargaming sessions.

  13. Mrs CL and I were in Nashville over the weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary. Went to the Country Music Hall of Fame (highly recommended, btw) on Monday. They have a Trans Am from Smoky and the Bandit on display with a big picture of Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed next to it. I say to Mrs CL that I didn't know Jerry Reed was in the HOF. She replies, "Yeah they both are." "Huh? Burt Reynolds is in the Country Music Hall of Fame?" "No, that's Waylon Jennings. He drove the car in Smoky and the Bandit."

  19. Prison doesn't rehabilitate anyone. It hardens them. What you have to do in there to survive is barbaric. Take a troubled 18 year old kid and put him in there with a bunch of hardened old men, what do you think he is going to come out like? What do you think happened to him in there? You think he has mental health problems? The real issue is what happened to him prior to that. I have an uncle(dead now) who did 15 years for being a crack addict back in the tough on crime Reagan/Bush days. 15 fucking years for having a drug problem. This man worked for GM, drove a Mercedes, and owned 3 4plex apartment buildings. Then he got hooked on drugs. Now his kids grow up without a father. Everyone is going to emulate someone. So if its not your father who do you think its going to be? What's the statistic about kids without fathers? Yet we were locking them up in droves and now we wonder where all these violent kids are coming from? Lol. What did you say? "I couldn’t give a single fuck about gang bangers killing each other. I hope more of them do." Gangbangers killing each other not only creates more kids growing up without fathers, but also spills into innocent bystanders. You don't care until your wife is Allison Parker, the nurse who was killed by this guy just trying to go about her day. Now you are trying to raise kids solo, and then those kids take a turn for the worst because they grew up without their mom. It's a vicious cycle, and locking more people up has shown that it doesn't do anything but increase crime.

  26. Of course a bunch of legal stuff is up to discretion and there are tons of close calls. But some parts of law unequivocally have right and wrong answers. Treating executive privilege the same as attorney-client privilege is unequivocally a wrong analysis. Saying that a former president's claim of executive privilege can preclude review of the documents by the current members of the executive branch (i.e., DOJ) is a wrong analysis. What scares many of us to death is that if SCOTUS ever starts issuing decisions that everyone else knows is wrong, especially when it comes to the constitution, our tripartite government will have failed.
