  6. Honestly, the problem is far less the Democratic parties fault, although of course, they bear some fault, then it is the destruction of news that pretends to be objective. Having spent at least seven decades on this planet, it is my opinion that we have essentially the same amount of uneducated gullible mooks as we ever did. What we did not have are supposed news outlets like Fox News spreading completely false news to injure one political party while completely ignoring the broadcast of news problematic for their preferred political party. And while I get that people will depend on Facebook and their friends and family for some information, it was Rush and the GOP who convinced a large part of the country that there is absolutely no true fact to be gleaned by reading the Washington Post or New York Times or any newspaper that is not MAGA supportive. I grew up watching the news in the 60s and the objective facts in the ABC NBC and CBS nightly shows did not vary that much in content. They more or less gave straight news reporting and then people argued about what the facts meant. There were no such things as alternative facts. THAT situation is the most damaging. Once you convince a large portion of America that they are a disloyal non-patriot if they receive news from anywhere but the Dear Leader’s source, there is nothing a democrat can say on a stump speech or commercial that will penetrate through that thick steel curtain of stupidity. When people talk about the better talking points that Democrats could make, they gloss over the fact that a third of the country will never see that point - or if the commercial starts to come on - they will turn the channel or start talking transgender operations during the rest of it. Advocating for better messaging is obviously a great thing, but it seems to ignore that one side has made it a religion not to listen to or believe that messaging, be it better or not. That in my opinion is the bigger problem. A third of the country totally embraces self-induced voluntary ignorance of the other side’s alleged facts. Until that changes, there is very little that the Democrats can do except wait for the GOP to run the country so far in the ground that they look for an alternative.

  8. For me, corruption is the all-encompassing message. Trump, his oligarch buddies, and a complicit GQP are rigging the country’s entire socioeconomic system against average Americans in plain sight. Frankly, it’s pretty fucking apparent and straightforward to point out with inumerable examples across the board. Plus, it doesn’t require a lot of higher thinking or complicated explanations. Finally, as a phenomenon, corruption doesn’t have an inherently liberal or conservative bias, and it’s not racially tinged or about any marginalized group. Every ad, speech, or argument should begin with the thesis statement: “You are getting fucked by the most corrupt administration in US history.” Then, follow up with umpteen examples based on the specific concerns of whichever audience is before you, whether it’s made up of old people (Medicare/Social Security), small businesses (tariffs/preferential tax breaks for megacorps), families (tax break for billionaires/environment and safety regulations) marginalized groups (they already know this), young people (education/student loans), etc. Again, their corruption is widespread and out in the open, but Americans are too stupid or blinded by their hate to see how it hurts them. The gift is just sitting there, wrapped in a bow under the tree. Even if you have to grab, unwrap, and set it in their lap, do so.

  9. Sweden, my peeps, have the greatest per capita citizen investment in their economy than any country in the world. In fact, in Sweden, they take about 2% of your earnings and mandatory put it in an account that gives you an option of many Swedish companies, like a 401(k) choice. I think they tax you like one percent on those accounts. The goal is to make every citizen interactive with the economy and the businesses of their economy and to pay attention to economics. Also, to reward you for participating in investing in your country, tax benefits that assure you a bunch of money on retirement so you won’t need to draw a state pension for the bulk of your retirement They’re the happiest people in the world according to surveys, and this is the country that’s a socialist shit hole according to MAGA. Because setting up fantastic government programs to take care of citizens needs is a negative. we must earn more money than anyone else and make sure they don’t have any so we have more.

(This included her teacher apparently) Today I made a steak. I'm fairly certain he has never had a bone. like ever. He wasn't exactly sure what it was. And was briefly scared to take it out of my hand

  15. I was in Austin for a few days this week to meet up with some friends, and did as much due diligence as possible. It was the week following UT's graduation so perhaps that's why we got lucky with much shorter lines than usual. Pulled up to Interstellar about 40 minutes before opening and were ~12th in line. The brisket was amazing, as were the short ribs with chimichurri, and jalapeno popper sausage. Leroy & Lewis - we were there for dinner. Arrived about 5:30 and the line was short. The sausage and beef cheek were amazing. The brisket and flat iron, very good. The banana pudding tiramisu was phenomenal. The cfs was disappointing, as were a couple of the sides. La Barbecue was the last stop of the week on Friday and it was absolutely incredible. Perfection all the way around. Arrived about 10:15 and we were 4th in line. We also hit Loro for dinner, which was not great but the talent level and vibe were incredible. Franklin (took it to the vrbo so no pics.) Stopped in at 1 and the wait was 45 minutes. Oh...we went to Black's too. It was disappointing.

  16. While living in Puerto Rico during the early 1950s my Dad acquired some beams of Ausubo wood that were salvaged from a renovation of a 17th Century Spanish colonial building on our US Army post (Fort Brooke). That wood supposedly has a Janka hardness of 3130 lbs. He had several table lamps (two single & one double) and some small items made from it, and I inherited this one single lamp…..(of course I attached the stained glass shade): The side table is Taiwanese teak, custom made when we lived there in the late 1950s.

  17. Because people already WANT to hate. There is a pile of sticks already smoldering, all you have to do is pour a little gasoline on it. We've spent this country's history telling a segment of the constituents that these other people that don't look like you are lesser than you and that's why they need to live and go to school over there. They are less intelligent, and uncivilized. Your violence is okay. You had to exterminate all the Native Americans because they were savages. Black people needed to be kept in place or else they would rape all our women. Take the Mahendra Patel incident. If that happened in an era with no store video he would go to prison for years, even though dude is a well educated engineer and owns multiple properties in the community. All it took was for some white lady to accuse him of doing something and he is sitting in jail for 45 days, evidence to the contrary. This country is falling behind other industrialized nations precisely because of the above. We cannot allow socialized medicine because some undeserving brown person might take advantage of it. Don't believe me? Let's look at Mississippi. It is no coincidence that the brownest state in the union is also the worst. Cannot allow investment in infrastructure or make any efforts to bring any industry. Their efforts to keep the status quo have prevented any growth. Wallowing in shit since the 1870's.

  30. Regarding yesterday's hearing in the Abrego Garcia case, the government submitted a declaration from lil Marco supporting the invocation of state secrets privilege. Judge Xinis found it wanting and will unseal it. Also she was mad that no declarations came from DHS/ICE Barbie. She appears ready to invoke the power to review the material the government is withholding (without showing it to the opposition) to see if the privilege is properly invoked, an "in camera" review. That should be fun. Also, in the expedited discovery period, the plaintiffs were permitted to depose the three people that gave declarations in the status of Abrego Garcia. As could be expected, those people knew nothing and were escape goats. Accordingly, the plaintiffs requested, and were granted, permission to take the depositions of DHS, DOS, and DOJ on an "institutional" basis, where the witness has to dig around for information to answer questions and can't respond "I don't know that's not my area." Also indicated that the court may grant a request for such a deposition of the "White House." Probably pretty unusual.

  32. I was at the baseball game last Sunday. My wife and kid were playing in the bounce house on the third base side, so I was sitting at one of the picnic tables trying to watch the game. CDC happened to walk right by me, and I was about to introduce myself when he pivoted, reached down, and picked up a discarded napkin off of the ground. He then casually walked to the nearest trash can and deposited the waste, at which point he continued walking. I just sat there staring and thinking to myself that we have the best fucking athletic director in all of college sports. Every little detail matters to this guy. We are so lucky to have him.
