  1. Selected this post, but there are so many others....I'm actually glad Enchubben is sharing his unvarnished thoughts, because it's a good glimpse into the mind of someone who is simultaneously clueless, and thinks they're a good person....who is also a vile racist. He described a made-up "DEI" boogeyman that doesn't exist. It's a straw man for the right to construct and then demonize, which gives them justification for their continued suspicion and resentment of all people who aren't white males (note that white males are literally the ONLY class that doesn't get the "I just can't trust that they weren't a 'DEI hire'" treatment). This is how deeply permeated the racism is. And how he just blows by straight-forward, unambiguous statements like him saying that black women just don't have the brain power. Or, in choosing to criticize the Cowboys, going to the race of their fanbase. What possible relevance could that have to anything or anyone? There are 100,000 reasons to hate the Cowboys and their fans (I can list them, as I share in most of them). But mentioning the race/ethnicity of their fans WOULDN'T EVEN FUCKING OCCUR TO ME, BECAUSE I'M NOT A FUCKING WHITE SUPREMACIST. It's the casualness, and ubiquity, of white supremacist ideology that's being revealed in this discussion. They don't argue that Charlie Kirk didn't say or think those things. They just move the goalposts, and say "racist things really aren't racist." It's not "racist" to think that black women are inferior...it's just true. It's not racist to say that foreigners should be whipped -- that's just a good idea. It's not racist to say that the phrenology of the skulls of negroes correlates to lower IQs, that's just science (see the road we're on? Everything old will become new again). Enchubben doesn't wear a robe and white hood. Enchubben surely thinks of himself as a good person, who doesn't mean any harm to anyone. Enchubben also holds deep-seated beliefs and opinions about how minorities are actually inferior, and likely get any role or achievement through "cheating" (that's what they think "DEI" is), and how minorities are just generally lower class (I mean, look at those little mexican Cowboys fans), etc. etc. etc. That doesn't make him racist, he's just calling it like it is. Guys in klan robes aren't the danger to America and humanity. Guys like Enchubben are. Because the guys in the klan robes are few, and so over-the-top that they are easy to combat. Guys like Enchubben are your neighbor. Your neighbor who, when seeing my last name on the pleadings of a court case, thinks "DEI hire," and that I am probably an inferior intellect. Maybe he's the judge in my case, and he automatically knocks my credibility down a peg because surely, I got where I got by taking a more qualified white man's position. If Enchubben is a banker, he thinks I am something more of a lending risk because again, while my job title LOOKS nice, I probably really don't deserve it, and I won't last long out there in the real world, where skill and talent make a difference. I'm glad that the Enchubbens of the world are so clueless about their racism and contempt for everyone who is not a white male that they state it openly and plainly. Being able to see the force bent on destroying our society right out there in the open is a helpful advantage for the rest of us. Now . . . to figure out what to do with it. Because the Enchubbens have ALSO made it plain that putting objective truth that runs contrary to their worldview right in front of them . . . does nothing. I keep coming back to "they're going to have to see what a shitshow their 'dream society' turns into when they have their way, and all non-white males are put back under the boot where they belong."

  2. Your initial point is bullshit, because Charlie Kirk literally named every powerful black woman he could think of and said they only got where they were because of affirmative action and they lacked the brain power to otherwise be taken seriously. Imagine a white college dropout calling a black woman with a Harvard law degree stupid, then other white people trying to defend him from being called a racist. You're out of your fucking minds.

  4. Bullshit. People like Kirk and you mouth breathers have a β€œcomplaint” because such an applicant pool leads to more minority hires and you (wrongly) believe most if not all those resultant hires result in a less qualified person (ie not the white dude) getting a job. It’s circular reasoning, it’s objectively wrong, and it’s absolutely racist, misogynistic, and trans/homophobic at its core. P.S. Fuck you

  7. Michelle Obama was a DEI hire for what, First Lady? Is there a job application for that? Barack should have extended the opening to a more qualified white man? SJL was elected by her constituents. Any way you slice it the remark was incredibly stupid and doubling down on it is dumber. Edit: More than dumb, he just named four famous black women and said they were stupid. That’s pure bigotry.

  8. while this is written very poorly, i have a strong feeling that this is likely the speculation that will most closely align with reality if we are able to ascertain the truth. no one outside of robinson truly knows but it certainly feels this way to me at this point without greater understanding and more extensive facts. that (along with the lack of cooperation) is a contributing factor to the inability for anyone in authority to articulate a motive that satiates everyone's need to pigeonhole this as political violence in traditional ways that allows people to act sanctimonious. if this does turn out to be the explanation, pam bondi, donald trump, kash patel, etc... are simply not equipped to understand this fucked up subculture and they certainly can't articulate it to the public at large so they will instead not "waste a crisis" and leverage it for their more nefarious efforts given the ambiguity. we, as posters on surly, have multiple orders of magnitude greater understanding of this derivative subculture than the average person just by being on here and barraged with memes and otherwise "for the lulz" online culture of disassociated people...and i would guess that most of us can't even express or accurately vocalize how this comes to be. the public at large is completely at a loss. while i am not perpetually online, i am on a fucking lot and i have insight into the internet subculture but i had no idea who "destiny" was until someone here started linking it. i also have never been a gamer so i have never been exposed to a lot of the threshold for this subculture. but for me to struggle to internalize the motivation (if it turns out to be accurate) accompanying this event...the public at large will never stand a chance and everyone will simply project their preferences and biases unfortunately.

  9. You’re (not surprisingly) missing a key element of your company’s plight during that timeframe: a lot of companies were doing anything to make them not come off as racist and more accepting to minorities without fully understanding what that is or how that works. I saw a lot of companies doing shit and as a Black man, my first thought was β€œyou’re going in so hard that it’s clear you don’t know what this means.” Even my college in Texas tried to lean in a lot more, especially during that time frame (George Floyd), and I had to keep telling them β€œthat is not what minorities/Blacks/Latinos are asking you do to. Instead, how about you actually ask what some of this shit means and stop assuming. So part of the reason you and others believe what you believe it because you saw people and companies acting in ways they shouldn’t have been because they failed to actually reach out to minorities to see what they should be doing.

  11. one of the key assumptions you are incorrectly making is that the status quo before DEI = race, sexual orientation, religion, etc are not being used in hiring decisions. this isn't accurate at all. the accusations are being demonstrated and justified over and over again, you are simply covering your ears and shouting "agree to disagree". this is also why I don't believe that you have an accurate read on the impect of DEI in your life and career.

I think it was like 15-20 years ago my wife's Aunt gets a call from "Bob's people" explaining he would like to come visit the house and relive memories. She had no idea the history. He shows up and proceeds to spend several hours telling her and my wife's uncle about the story of his granddad building it and his memories of the times he spent here. They are to call him Bob, as that's what his friends call him, and if they ever want to come to Sundance Film Festival, please call him and they will be his special guest. They never took him up on that. My MIL was some kinda pissed she wasn't notified ahead of time he was coming (they didn't tell anyone). Lol.

  21. There's one thing in common with every sector of American society that has gotten us to this point of failure. A refusal to adhere to any sort of ethical standard for common decency. Over and over again every step of the way down has been littered with people only looking out for themselves and not caring about what their actions will do to the greater country at large. From the corporate obsession with profit over people, to the politicians being openly and legally bought to allow it to happen. Down to these farmers and the regular maga voter who expect to be given everything while expecting everything is taken from anyone not like them. It takes a whole lot of callous indifference, hatred, and greed in a society to devolve to the point of electing someone like trump. Then to elect him again after the disasterous first term, pandemic failure, and insurrection/theft of classified materials is deranged lunacy.

No supporter of DEI disagrees with them either, as they can recognize a poorly implemented program mislabeled as DEI. 30. The frustrating thing about DEI is that EVERYONE understands the underlying concepts, as long as it is in a field where β€œthey” belong. Every single person on this board knows that in recruiting, you don’t just blindly offer the kids who put up big numbers from Katy/Southlake/etc and call it a day. Every single person on this board understands that these big school kids have likely had all of the advantages presented to them to this point and it is not necessarily indicative of future success. Every single person on this board understands the logic behind extending an offer to someone who might have lesser stats now, but could thrive given the proper opportunity. But that’s somewhere where β€œthey” are allowed to succeed, so nobody ever associates DEI with college football. The compounding factors on all of this, of course, is that most people who are generally labeled as a β€œDEI hire” absolutely have similar/better resumes than their counterparts, yet folks like @Enchubben just assume they must have only gotten the job because of the color of their skin. I won’t publicly call you a racist, but I’ll let your words speak for themselves.

  31. In our assymetrical war of pro-republic versus anti-republic, accuracy has been portrayed as name-calling. Your words and whom you support define you pretty clearly. This unattractive label allows fascists to claim the right to indignation while non-fascists in public forums shy from describing what their eyes clearly see. Ironically, the indignant party shamelessly spews hyperbole and lies like the ass end of a diarrhea rocket. These sensitive souls speak of Dems as radical socialists looking to destroy America and prone to violence. They all nod and feed from the rocket's nozzle. Your president and party are fascists in the process of dismantling what was once a pretty good republic. You revere the Pledge of Allegiance but abbreviate it similarly to the way the Second Amendment gets abbreviated. Sure, let's pledge allegiance to the flag. Full stop. The republic for which it stands? Huh? Wahz that? I just know that I'm on the same team as that jersey flying from the pole. Are you? The ill fate of a fascist disturbs me not at all. The fascists say they are at war with me; why should I give a shit if one of them dies? Why shouldn't I be glad of it? I'm not forced to be assymetrical anymore than those who embrace the advantages of assymetrical conflict. TLDR? Fuck you and shut up, fascist.

  37. This is pretty interesting, because typically when you have departments that are overrepresented demographically that means there is some bias in the hiring. The entire point at DEI, especially at global scale corporations that employ 10s to 100s of thousands of people the KPIs matter because they show the bias of managers or organizations pretty clearly - and guess what at a place with that many people, it definitely doesn't matter if you are white black purple or blue. You are a cog in a machine. The cogs in the machine need to be diverse and there needs to be ample opportunity for diversity of thought, background etc or you start to get echo chambers and fiefdoms based on the buddy system and a complete lack of meritocracy. DEI wasn't for the small businesses or medium sized companies. It's for companies that have record profits and are massive employers who may have managers or people who work for the firm that are intentionally or unintentionally being bias against people that don't look like them.

  38. I’ve been involved with a lot of DEI hiring processes and the best candidate at the end gets the job. I’ve seen it be white men, white women, people of color. The only thing that changes in a proper DEI process is at the outset, at the beginning, you make sure a diverse group is your starting sample set. The reality is though, there are more mediocre white men promoted in this country than there are excellent people of color, trans people, etc. DEI done correctly is exactly what we need in every organization and institution to ensure the best qualified candidate is chosen.
