Some of you are way overstating Reddick's 2019 performance. I like him in terms of chemistry and defense, but in terms of production, he is our worst starter. 0.8 WAR is not good for an everyday player. Yes, he had a key hit against Boston in 2017 in a series we were going to win as the superior team, but he has had 155 postseason ABs and has been terrible (219/280/297). He started this season well, but his OPS splits by month are: .888 .703 .748 .524 Hopefully, he gets hot again late in the year, like he was in April. If Reddick continues to suck and Tucker is hot in September, they will both make the playoff roster, and Tucker may even play some.

2018 Longhorns Fall Practice/Football Season Thread
lemonandaturd replied to Tex Pete's topic in Football
We are going to win at least 10 games unless our quarterback room has a complete meltdown. Sam can be a stud if it all works. Cam Rising or Casey may have done just as well as Sam if the roles were reversed. Rising is a big dude with a big arm, and is free from big game losing brain farts. Casey is a Big 12 QB that most of our competitors would have liked to have including, little Lincoln. I am dranking the koolaid. Tope Imade is a big bad mofo that is kicking seniors asses and raising hell. Tre Watson, Johnson and Ingraham breaking ankles and Young showing out like the bowl game. Less than a month. Sign me up. -
2018 Longhorns Fall Practice/Football Season Thread

I know we are going to win cause we have a team of big Johnsons! We haz Gary, we haz Colin, we haz the undiscovered possible diamond of Kirk. When I grew up we had a great drive through call 2-Jays. I want this to be the year of 3-Jays! In Keith Jackson’s voice, “Johnson takes the ball away and sores!” “Johnson just destroyes Clay and forces a, an OU(sux) FUMBLE!” Johnson, yeah another Johnson rips off another long gain for huge yardage!” “First Down! Yeah commitment me now. I love my koolaid too much! Damn I want some of this type of hero football. It was what I was raised on. -
1000000% this. Pop started the year saying “Winning is as important this year as learning was in the past. We’ve got to continue to learn, but adding more wins is appropriate and mandatory.“ Within a few weeks it became “well we’re young” and “heh, well, we weren’t going to win a championship this year anyway” and “gee, we gotta see what we have” and other ridiculous musings to make it seem like they had a fucking clue of what they were doing. That Pop quote to me is telling because there’s no way he says it if the front office doesn’t think they’ll be competitive. Something like 35 wins, maybe not exactly in the hunt for a play-in, but also not eliminated in early March. in fact, we’re careening towards something like a franchise-worst 18-64. I’m not sure how they could have misjudged this team that badly, but it’s not terribly reassuring going forward.

I can! We olds lived through plenty of even more catastrophic losses, unfortunately. In 1981, #1 Texas goes to Fayetteville and loses 42-11 to piggy. Possibly derailed a MNC -- can't think of a worse day other than the 10-9 loss to jaw-ja in the Cotton Bowl in '84 that cost us another MNC. That was WORLDS worse than this shit today, because back then that Texas team was the insanely good in all aspects of its gameplay -- great defense, great offense, great skill players, great special teams. We weren't going to win a natty this year, regardless, despite it sucking hard losing to Mobilehoma. What would be HILARIOUS is if we beat Mobilehoma's dumb ass in our last Big12 championship game and fuck their CFP chances! THAT Revenge would be Sweet!

Was thinking about this topic this morning on my dog walk. I mean half this place thought we were going to lose to Louisiana-Lafayette. Surely they shouldn't be surprised we lost to an SEC team on the road, with a RSFr making his 1st road start. Did I think we were going to win last night? I did. Did I think we would get absolutely destroyed in every facet? I did not. I think/hope we can rally and go into OU at 4-1 Color me optimistic. I still have a little faith that we ca correct some of the issues. Obviously I think Casey is the guy going forward...I don't know how much of a barometer Rice or Tech will be...but we'll see. TCU on the road will be a make or break game.

The tide started to turn well before OU tied this game. they did nothing to stop the tide from turning. And when they did, it was too late. they did the exact opposite. OU came down from 21 down and tied it up. And what did we do? Run out a kickoff 7 yards deep. Fumble. OU scores the next play. Game over. Sure, we tied the game up but did anyone think we were going to win that game? this team died a slow death after going up 28-7 in the 1st qtr. You can talk yourself into this was some moral victory. But that is aggy stuff. This was an absolutely terrible loss in so many aspects. We were not even close to being ready for when OU gained traction. Both sides of the ball went into a shell in the fetal position.

This match is the perfect example of why all the teams should have somebody that follows RPI/resumes/and so on. There's no reason Hintzen should have been playing tonight with a bum leg because Texas had absolutely nothing to gain from a result tonight. 1) We weren't going to win the Big 12 with any type of result tonight. 2) We likely are going to host the first round in the NCAA tournament and have to travel for the round of 32/16 matches. Nothing tonight would have changed that. Hintzen should have be resting and we should be getting healthy for the Big 12/NCAA tournament. All we were doing tonight was playing for seeding in the Big 12 tournament which means absolutely nothing because every team we play in the Big 12 tournament is good.

Crimson Tide (#1 lolol) @ Commodores on SEC Network
Doc Sam Beckett replied to blacklab's topic in Football
Ummm no. I think most conferences are basically even. I'll grant the SEC is better at the top most years, but my point is there shouldn't be some automatic SEC and Big 10 dominate the playoffs selection bias. 9 of the top 10 in the AP are SEC and Big 10. That's fucking stupid. Look at those teams, and the ones knocking on the top 10? SC, Ole Miss, LSU. It should be spread out more *as far as Clemson goes, I think at this point we should be in the playoffs. I don't think we are going to win it all, but we should win one game and be a tough out for the next team. That as the ACC #2 is better than SEC #4 or Big 10 #4. Why should Clemson or Miami have to be basically perfect while Mizzou has multiple outs? Edit - Which brings me back to Vandy, Kentucky and Arky being aggy redass bad motherfuckers now. Lmfao -
This is one game where Sark needs to take some chances if we are going to win. If the plan is simply to grind it out with Bijan, we will have drives stall out and lose. Grinich will sell out to stop the run. Need to get creative with play action, deep passes over the middle, misdirection, jet sweeps, and RB screens. On defense, unleash Alfred Collins, use the occasional CB blitz, bring an extra LB like Overshown, stunt Ojomo, etc. Yes it's tough to sack Rattler since he gets the ball out quick, but need to at least make him uncomfortable enough that he makes a few mistakes or errant throws. Our front 4 can't generate pressure on its own. On the back end, better to tackle/grab/pull down the WR when beat for a 15 yard penalty rather than giving up the big 50 yard play.

Fuck off. Our second string QB needs quality snaps. There may have been years when your starting QB gets injured and you just shrug and say "well, it's not like we were going to win the National Championship this year anyway." THose fucking days are gone. If, God fobid, something happens to Ewers, I want a backup ready to win it all. And we can have that by mid-season if Manning gets some quality snaps. It's a new era and there's no reason not to get him those snaps every single fucking chance you get. For all we know, some Sooner fuck is gonna lay a late hit on Quinn early in the game (remember Bama). I want to see a primed and ready Manning come on that field. You stupid motherfucker. I love the way we won today, but my one criticism is totally fucking valid.

I don't see how this is "shit talk". Damn we have some sensitive people on this board. Aggy likes to beat their chest based on recruiting rankings or playing close games. This is simply acknowledging that we have been competitive as recently as last year. And again, I have never said we are going to win the conference next year. I said we are going to COMPETE for it, just like we did last year. Here is CBS ranking us at #19 without adding anyone else. I welcome anyone who thinks KU is completely head and shoulders above us to compare rosters as I have. I'm certainly open to some rational discussion. My view is that a lot of the rating services are vastly over-valuing incoming freshmen and under-valuing experience and the portal. If the roster we have assembled ends up outside the top-25, we are going to surprise a lot of people.

Agreed. Walking out of that stadium with the win hearing "Poooooooooor Aggies" is like finishing dinner someone else paid for while being handed a glass with two fingers of Macallan 15. Perfect. The tailgate experience before the game was so much fun, because I freakin' knew (had a great feeling, plus their D sucked at the time) we were going to win that game. The game started with Reggie "The Real Deal" McNeil proclaiming that this was his first start against Texas, only to see Dustin Long trot out for their first series. David Thomas got matched up with a slow LB and it was 7-0 within the first 3 mins of the game. Then El Ced (RIP) ran down their throats for the rest of it and it was all but over. Got back to the tailgate and said nothing to everyone who were sitting, sad, next to a radio listening to Dave while I opened a beer and smiled. My friend looks at me and says, "I don't like it when you're happy."

Trump is strong and very popular among his base. He is going to turn out a HUGE number of voters. We are going to win on enthusiasm and voter turnout. We need the black vote to be at Obama levels again. We need young people to show up. We need the Hispanic vote. We need a coalition to fight the white tide. So while I would agree that Joe is a safe-ish pick for simply winning the election, I am ~*cOnCeRnEd*~ about the complete lack of enthusiasm towards him from the populace. It just feels like he's a stagnant thing that won't be able to build real momentum and he'd be going up against an extremely dynamic personality and voter base in the general. Are odds good that Joe could just hold the line and win a war of attrition against Donald? Yes Are odds good that Joe will ignite a passionate wave of voter enthusiasm that will not only win the election but bring in the power necessary to Congress to enact real change? Ehhhhhhhhhh

We are going to win them all... (...that we don't lose) We will not lose a single game... (...That we win) I'm hoping this loss cut deep when they watched the tape. Hopefully they see the shit show they put on for the entire nation (and world) to see and it embarrassed them... Then maybe it will drive them off enough to pull their heads out of their ass and start playing to their potential instead of the other team's. I'll have some koolaid and go with it had a profound affect that leads to some deep soul searching as a team who squandered a season that would have been a playoff berth if they had played each game with the intensity they played the first 3 quarters against OU. It has the positive effect of pissing this team off and they put their foot on the pedal and don't let up until after the B12 title is theirs and they have wrecked whichever poor SEC soul gets offered up to appease an angry longhorn We finish it!

Just, you know, so I could say I told you so. I'll leave the reasoning to finer and wordier minds, like CTJ. But bet the house, it's a stone cold lock. OK just one short word on why. The rest of the league is down. TCU, OU, WVU, need I say more? Go look it up. Now, I'm not predicting anything crazy, like an NC. Just a return to the natural order. Look I know you may disagree with this hot take. I'm sorry your mother didn't hug you enough when you were small. I'm sorry your balls never descended. I'm sorry the shadows are so scary and you need Viagra to get a boner. Really I am. But you know, facts and shit. A haiku: Longhorns are the shit. Offense. Defense. Special Teams. We are going to win. Texas today. Texas always. Texas forever. Let's roll. Amen and OU sucks.

I'm a big proponent of the first part - developing local newspapers to get the word out. Print media is dying in the free market. Many of the surviving papers put up firewalls either for their entire publication, or for the sports. But that leaves a void. In Nebraska, after the Omaha World Herald was gutted there were a couple of papers that popped up that rely on donations and provide really good, but limited, reporting. But they don't have the budget to do daily sports. If they did, it would get way more eyeballs. Their current reporting frequently focuses on the corruption in state government or public organizations, like this report on the fuckery around around the power company self-dealing on a property purchase. It's not explicitly political, but helps explain the reality to brainwashed rubes. You don't need stories that even mention Trump, but when you explain the reality of his policies, it can undermine him and others who follow a similar path. We aren't going to win the political battle without winning the media battle.

It means we shouldn't place swaying Manchin right now at the top of our list. "We are moving towards justice. We will get it sooner or later. If you stand in the way, it will come later. And if you stand in the way, we will destroy any concept of a legacy you ever dreamed of having. We are going to win either way. We can disagree on tax rates. We can disagree on a lot of other issues. But when it comes to the voting rights of Americans, we act with one voice and disloyalty is not tolerated. If you stand in the way of black voting rights you are a supporter of white supremacy and we will say that about you loudly, repeatedly, and without hesitation. Choose." Again, tunnel vision. The ballot box isn't really where this stuff is going to shift. The reality of this today is the same as it's always been; things will change through the public expression of the power of the masses. A serious effort to break down the causes of Democratic weakness does not include whining about Jill Stein voters. You're a troll.

Tom "the turtle" Herman [Lame Duck or greatest 5d chess player ever?]
Surly Bevo replied to Neonmoon's topic in Football
I have no doubt Tom Herman is a very very intelligent guy. Why do I not have that doubt? Because he is falling victim to the same trap so many highly highly intelligent people fall victim to. They are always always always playing chess and they are overly certain of their plan. Analyzing things like "well I've said we need to win the game by doing a,b, and c. But today it looks like we could win the game doing d. Will the press and fanbase doubt me because I didn't do it the way I said I would? Will I be viewed as less of a genius because my plan wasn't foolproog? No, No calm down Tom I'm sure the way I had it planned will work .Ok so let's keep doing a,b and c because I KNOW that's how we are going to win." Grinding every little decision like that out over and over and missing the forest for the trees of....just win. Sometimes you need a checkers player who will jump a motherfucker. -
I'll take OSU now over a game with ND or PS. I think the results of the previous 2 games for OSU and Texas and the seeding going forward are ideal for Texas. Texas coming off a struggle and OSU coasting to wins could help give us an edge. I'd rather meet OSU now rather than the final and I don't really care about making it to the final if we aren't going to win it. Playing OSU now is our best shot at them. I think we'll be the more motivated team and it's in Dallas. None of that will be enough if both teams continue playing like they have, but that's not typically how football works. I'm not counting on OSU shitting the bed, but they are only 2 games out from a really crappy loss. I love that OSU has been anointed the unstoppable team of the century while nobody is giving Texas a shot just a week after we were considered the favorite to win it all (right or wrong). Most fans and sports writers have the attention span of puppies. Nobody really knows how it will shake out, but there is a lot of rat poison being fed to OSU right now and that's a good thing in my opinion.

I agree with this. We have to run the play, because goddamit, it's the right thing to do. You remember To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus Finch tried one HELL of a case. He was right. Tom Robinson was innocent. He deserved acquittal, and justice. But Atticus knew -- like we know now -- that the jury would never do justice. He knew the whole time. He knew from opening statement to closing argument. He knew that the facts and evidence didn't matter. The jury was going to do what it was going to do. The reader knows that it's a great wrong. The reader wants Atticus to win, but knows all along that he surely won't. Atticus offered some wisdom that fits the current circumstances: We the People are going to take the L on this one.....because the party in power has something between them and reason (power, greed, venality). And they couldn't be fair if they tried. We aren't going to win. But we're going to write the book. Because maybe someday, there will be people who read it and are as disgusted by wrongdoing as they should be. And shit, write the book for no other reason than that it's more wrong than to just go along and allow an unjust result without even putting up a fight.

Go back and read my first post on this thread where I said we were going to win 98 games and cruise to the division while being short on bats that will be a major fucking problem in the playoffs. So, you know, just about exactly what will happen for this team. more- how about when I said it’s a real fucking problem to rely on Brantley and Yuli bc they are old and likely to get dinged and not be productive. or, calling the Odorizi things the second he signed while also saying he wasn’t trash and was just a league average dude but we wouldn’t want to pay him because he’s unnecessary. or- how about the thing I’ve said over and over and over again that Dusty continues to make sub optimal lineups and sometimes they will work because this is a game of probability and not certainty. you get real chesty whenever Maldonado or Dubon or whatever other weird thing Dusty does with the lineup (hitting Goodrum 3rd, refusing to play Chas against LHP- whatever) works out and ignore the times that the law of large numbers goes to work fucking this suboptimal strategy up the ass, all while ascribing bullshit straw men arguments to anyone who disagrees with you.

Accurately predicting who is going to win this game rarely happens. Especially this time, I feel it is all bluster and hot air on either side if they do. The teams are to closely matched and there are a ton of factors that will decide how this game goes outside of X and O's and talent. In 2005 one just knew Texas was going to win and that is the only year this century there was no doubt. We will not know how it is going to go until we find out the following: 1) Who comes out with the higher sense of urgency? 2) Is their in obvious team that is coming out with a much bigger chip on their shoulder and hitting the other harder in the mouth? 3) Who wants it more on that day? 4) Are there unforced errors that just change the whole game? Both teams have staffs that can put together a game plan and make the adjustments that can win. Both teams have the talent and pressure to win. My gut tells me with a great deal of certainty that we are going to win. I have not felt this way since 2009 but it is just a feeling. Logically, I just need to sit back and watch as the game starts getting settled on the field. If 1, 2 and 3 are on the side of Texas all we have to do is avoid #4 and we come away with a victory.

Another Tulane assistant not joining Willie Fritz at Houston Gerald Chatman is returning to Tulane as defensive line coach, per a report. ZACH BARNETT 27 MINUTES AGO After it was previously reported that he would join Willie Fritz at Tulane, defensive line coach Gerald Chatman will instead remain at Tulane as part of Jon Sumrall's new staff, according to a report Thursday from 247Sports. Chatman is the second assistant previously reported to be following Fritz to Houston to ultimately make a proverbial U-turn at the Texas-Louisiana border. Offensive coordinator Slade Nagle did the same earlier this week, though not to return to Tulane. Chatman helped Tulane D-linemen Darius Hodges and Patrick Jenkins both earn First Team All-AAC honors this fall. The former Wisconsin-Oshkosh defensive linemen has coached previously at LSU, Colorado, the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee State, and Butler, and as a GA at Texas A&M and Ball State. New Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall pledged to bring a national championship to New Orleans. "I'm telling you right now, I'm speaking it into existence, we are going to make the College Football Playoffs, and we are going to win it," Sumrall said.

You serious clark? We definitely won't be the same at PG. That is for sure, but it doesn't take a NPOY PG to make the elite 8 or final four. If I had to guess our depth chart I would put it something like this: 1: Moore/Dotson/Garrett 2: Grimes/Garrett 3: Garrett/D. Lawson/Grimes 4. KJ Lawson/SDS/Lightfoot 5. Azubukie/KJ/SDS/Mccormack This doesn't include if we return Vick (once again I doubt it happens but he is obviously a fit at the 2/3 spot and gives even more depth). I am not going to crown us national champs because shit happens. But we are going to win the league and we are going to be damn good. This team isn't duke's roster of 5* talent that is all young. This is a collection of experienced and proven talent mixed with a few great freshmen that won't have to carry a load on their shoulders. We might not have a bunch of future lottery picks here but we have the best combination of talent and developed players in the entire NCAA. There is a reason we have been ranked #1 since the day after the natty was decided. And that was before we knew that Azubukie was coming back and that vick might be back.
