This video makes me so angry.  The fact these coaches get paid so much money only to produce the kind of garbage we are seeing.  How the fuck was none of this obvious during the off-season?

$1.4M a year...

The only thing I can think of is Kyle Flood lied to Sark but he's the fucking HC so idk how he didn't realize with his own eyes that this was the #1 weakness of this team

I’m with you. I think many are pointing to our “soft NFL offseason” where we didn’t really hit in practice too much, because we were planning for all of the CFP games we were gonna play this year. Hard to know which of the big uglies are good if they aren’t battling good on good.

As an aside, I went to the same high school and graduated same year as Ian Boyd. I think we had a debate class together senior year. Happy for him that he’s able to make a living writing/providing analysis on Texas football.

Who was the last good OL coach we had? McWhorter until he quiet quit after 05? I think it was Jimmy Johnson who said OL coach is the most important person on a staff, and it's been a steaming pile of shit for 2 decades now.

It seems to me that OL is the one part of the team that is the least amenable to quick fixes via the transfer portal, and no amount of NIL money can fully mitigate this.  Traditionally the best programs have had OL "pipelines" where freshmen, no matter how promising, tended to redshirt and take a year to eat massive quantities of food, work out, and learn the system.  The guys actually playing are upperclassmen who have been in the program for 3+ years.  Even if you can rob an all-star OL from a lolpoor school, he still will need time to integrate into the program to be fully effective.  That just seems to be the way it is

It is completely amenable to quick fixes. We just choose not to go after any OL because... uh... Stroh was going to magically become competent over the summer I guess?

You know Stroh is getting the brunt of the hate and being the whipping boy.  He doesn't have a lot of experience though.  What are DJ Campbell's and Cole Hutson's excuse for blocking air though?  Those guys have had plenty of reps and refuse to get a hand on anybody crossing their face.  We are so passive on the line it's ridiculous.  We need to open the OU game hitting people and with some attitude.  HIT SOMEONE EVEN IF IT'S THE WRONG COCKSUCKER!

Oh my God.

Let me guess, you think the solution to all of our problems is for a half in the bag Kasey Studdard to yell at the team in the locker room about letting their nuts hang, right?

I think the point of the video was for Scip to say this is how the OL is being taught. I hate to say that, because it is a much worse case scenario than saying player X needs to improve.

Did you catch Quinn's interview with Gruden last year?  Quinn remarked that you had to make adjustments to the plays and not run the diagrams exactly as drawn.  What are your thoughts on the line?  I think Paul's comment of "robotic" was eye opening.

I dont disagree. That sometimes you have to be a football player, but there seems to be decent evidence this is what is being taught. Just pointing out that if it was a singular player, you blame him. When the same issues are plaguing the entire unit, you need ot start looking at the coach.

Maybe, but it's not hopeless. Compared to any other unit on the team, O line is also able to benefit from a puzzle piece or two. There's lots of cross training at IOL, and if a guy can play LT, usually he can switch over the RT easily. Getting a solid extra piece may mean a big difference in getting your 5 best guys on the OL and letting them develop now that you've assembled the puzzle. It's also much easier to deal with deficiencies like "this guy is a net positive in the running game, but struggles with pass blocking technique" vs. "this guy is 18 years old and just got manhandled by a 22 year old, 325 lb. monster". One of those can be mitigated easier than the other.

Gerry knows this program is rotted from the top down with Sark in regards to culture.

DJ Campbell has been our best most consistent lineman. Stroh has been our absolutely worst lineman, second worst is Hutson.

Baker while not good is younger and less experienced than Stroh yet he’s performing better.

The good news is pressure in the A and B gaps is easy for a Qb to deal with..... oh wait

Maybe, but is this what they were being taught last year?  Were they taught the same thing against Ohio St?  Pass protection was much better before with the same teacher.

I think this is overkill. The culture has been great since he cleaned house in 2021 or so. Bijan and Rojo set the tone and most players that have followed have upheld it. Arch needs to make sure it stays consistent. As do veterans like Taaffe and Hill.

Georgia attacked the pass pro with great success and that was with 3 draft picks on the OL. Ohio State played coverage vs Texas. That was more gameplan related.

Let’s hope so.  Gerry has mentioned the lack of physicality and discipline approximately 923 times since Saturday and is characterizing the OU game as a watershed moment for the Sark era.  I wonder how much OTF’s revenue will be impacted if the fanbase tunes out after a couple more gutless losses.

True.  But Georgia was the only team to give us pass rush problems last year, and Florida was only rushing 4 much of the time and getting home.  The OL blocked a basic rush well in the first game of the year against the #1 team, but couldn't block unranked 1-3 Florida who also didn't bring the house much.  I think the team has worsened over time, which means improvement to the baseline is possible.  That is at least something.
