Holy crap, stop this.  SMU had its nice little day in the sun last year.  Now let's all go back to ignoring them and not manufacturing reasons to talk about an irrelevant program.  This thread needs to make its way to the 10th or 11th page.

Dear Mustang Nation,

We are pleased to announce that Damon Evans has been named SMU’s new director of Athletics. Damon brings a wealth of experience from nationally-recognized programs, having served as athletics director at both the University of Georgia and, most recently, the University of Maryland. Under his leadership, the Terrapins have won 49 Big Ten championships and tournament titles. The program has earned seven national championships since 2014, when he joined Maryland as the executive athletic director and chief financial officer.

What stadium do you think they will host LSU in? AT&T? Cotton Bowl?

Came here to post.

The article I was reading on SI.com said "At LSU in Baton Rouge" and then "at SMU in Dallas" for what it's worth.  I think Jerry world would be a mistake, that would turn in to a home crowd for corndog easily.

TCU did this exact thing about 10 years ago. Of course the return game was Jerry World.

Sure, but that’s how it worked for TCU- they planned a home-and-home, then LSU insisted on ATT (they saw it as a recruiting showcase and they wanted a lot of exposure), and it ended up as a one-off at ATT.

I fully expect, at some point, for LSU to say, “We’re not playing this in a 35,000 seat stadium, are we?”

Too many upgrades to Ford Stadium to move a big name OOC to JerryWorld or the Cotton Bowl. Agree with above. The best thing they can do is try to limit how many LSU fans can attend. Nice bit of scheduling for SMU. Ballsy even.

Happened to TCU with LSU and Ohio State.

Ford is a glorified high school stadium with an incredible new South endzone facility.

Having been to the last two TCU - SMU games in Dallas before last year, I really am not sure how in the world they would handle a truly full crowd at Ford. Hell, they run out of ice and beer by half when they play TCU, That type of inadequate concession capability could turn ugly if LSU were to play there.

Well they have 4 years to figure that out. OU and Clemson both roll into Ford in 2027.

Technically, they had multiple games over capacity this past year as the official I believe is just over 32,000.

Parking is a bitch and stadium concourses, bathrooms, and concessions really aren't enough to handle capacity, but i think they spent the money in the right place in the end zone complex.

Unless you are going to add boxes and suites to generate more revenue, the fan experience is wasted money.

There is no chance in hell that game will be played at SMU. It’s a nice thought but way too much money left on the table with a small stadium.

They aren’t making their NIL money from ticket sales and they didn’t just spend $100M on the stadium to not play big games at Ford. They’ll make way more money from handshakes on the Boulevard that day than a few extra seats at soulless Jerry World especially when they’d give up any semblance of home advantage in the stands.

Same song, different day.  Exact same arguments were used for bringing LSU and tOSU to TCU's stadium.

From 2010-2012, they spent 164MM completely rebuilding their stadium.  Notwithstanding that 164MM, the 2013 LSU return game was played at Jerry World.

In 2012, a home-and-home between TCU and tOSU was announced, with tOSU coming to FW in 2018 and TCU going to Columbus in 2019.  In 2017, the schools (CDC AD at TCU) announced the arrangement was collapsed to one game at Jerry World. https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article147401554.html

Now maybe SMU's AD has better negotiating skills than CDC.

Maybe SMU is better positioned than TCU in 2017, when it was in a P5 conference, was coming off an 11-3 season, and 12 10+ seasons since 2000, including an 11-6 Bowl record, including a 2-1 record in BCS/NY6 Bowls, and 6 top-10 finishes.

But maybe not.

I will be absolutely shocked if LSU comes to Ford.

I think TCU has always been open to the payday at Jerryworld, especially with how close it is to Ft. Worth and being the closest D1 program. SMUs donors are funding the AD almost exclusively for like 9 years with the ACC move. Schmoozing the big wigs on campus for big games seems uniquely important at this point in time as they raise their profile from G5 to ACC and they seem all in on being at the top of the league regularly. The donors who are big fans too would almost certainly offer to cover whatever they’d make from a Jerryworld move. If I’m right, and I really think I am, they certainly made it clear to LSU that the game will be at Ford and put it in the contract.

We played above capacity 4 times last season you goofball. Last I checked University Park didn't burn to the ground.

I know TCU fans have gotten used to thousands of empty seats, though.

I doubt the LSU game isn't a true home and home. I mean we are in the ACC. We played FSU at home last season. Giving LSU a game in death valley then giving them a neutral site game doesn't make any sense.

It doesn’t have to be ATT (and, Lord, is ATT a horrible place for college football). The announcement says “Dallas” as the site. There is a large stadium in Dallas, available for games. That stadium has a history with SMU football. Some used to call it “the house that Doak built”.
