I’m really inexperienced at wagering, but why would he not have won $300,000,000 at 1000 to 1?

Nunes was -1000 which is one to ten. Peña was like +630 which is 6.3 to one. You take 00 off the end of it.

So he bet 300k to win 30k - since minus odds means every 1000 you wager wins you 100. 300k on Peña would have won 1.8M+ as plus odds means every 100 you wager wins you 630.

He almost lost the Chandler Interim Title Fight over it.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. It was really 10-1. So where does that kind of rank on all time title upsets in the UFC?

probably top 5 with Holm-Rousey, GSP-Serra, and maybe Weidman #1

I still think Serra beating GSP is biggest title upset of all time.

Not sure what the odds say compared to all of them, but don't care either.

Agreed.

Weidman over Anderson is the only one I might put ahead of this one.

Also, Holm over Rousey is highly overrated as an upset.  Holly's one of the best women boxers of all time and Ronda's standup always sucked.

That one was great because it was so fucking brutal too. Rousey manhandled everyone in the cage, and yet Holm bounces in, completely fucks her up and then breaks her face with a head kick.

Surprised Ngannou is booked for January after what seemed like pretty distasteful treatment/negotiation from the UFC.

A few if his new interviews are published on ESPN/UFC and he seems an ultra chill dude….hope he does well

Weird, he's guaranteed the title bout as he is still technically champion. Lewis already has a fight scheduled. Maybe they are building a card, and this ticks off a non-championship fight for Francis.

Holy shit, Calvin Kattar.

Giga got really unlucky with the slip in the first round.  He was peppering Kattar for the first 90 seconds, then he slipped and had to burn through a lot of cardio on the ground with Kattar on top of him.  Giga never looked the same after that.

But take nothing away from Calvin.  Legendary output, cardio, damaging strikes.  He just beat the shit out of one of the best kickboxers in the world.

Good stuff.

I've never seen better inside elbows and spinning elbows, and I've never seen someone take that kind of damage and stay offensive.

It seemed like they were threatening to fully strip him before this fight.

Reading between the lines, the crux of the disagreement is that Ngannou wanted a new contract (with higher base/guaranteed) before this next fight.   This sets him up well even if he loses the championship fight.

Without a new agreement, the existing contract has Championship clause that *automatically* extends contract terms to 3 more fights. So if he loses, he’s stuck with the lower pay for 3 more fights and with less bargaining power.
