Tell me about UH

Wow, there must be a very young crowd in here,  No mention of the fact that Bill Yeoman;s only son Gary played for UT in the early 1970s. For the record, Gary Yeoman walked on at UT even after Coach Royal pulled his scholarship offer to him. I guess he really didn't want to play for dear old Dad. :)   Naturally Bill Yeoman was't happy about it and took potshots at UT until he retired.

Other than Jackie Sherrill, Bill Yeoman was a coach  I would just love to absolutely run up the score on.  His actions against Tulsa in 1968 and Rice in 1978 just spoke volumes on his character.  It was absolute karma that both Tulsa and Rice beat him in his last year.

If you are into girls from all over the world, the UH library was where you wanted to be in 1998. I don't know if kids still go to libraries, but it was a one-stop international buffet for exotic spank bank material. (Was married, did not partake.)

Whoever said it was a school for people who'd flunked out of other schools and were there while managing an Applebee's was painfully on the mark in my case...

I was in DKR when that fat little RB of theirs -- Weatherspoon -- ran and caught short passes for about 9000 yards and 62 TDs. That sucked, but I almost got laid by a Chi O that night...Took out some, but not all, of the sting. Wonder whatever happened to her -- we were both really into each other and then just melted away from each other. Such is freshman year romance.

Bo Burris was their first veer quarterback and now he's a landscape designer in Houston. He redesigned our backyard for us and he's a true artist at that shit. When he came over to pick up his check, he hung out with my wife and me at our dining room table and told us stories for a couple of hours. One of them was how he invented the veer as a joke during a busted play in practice. One of the coaches had blown the whistle on a play and Burris just kept running it anyway and made a weird pitch out to a running back...Yeoman was watching from the tower and got on his bullhorn and said something like "Do that again, but for real this time."  And they did, and again, and again, and again...

Burris went on to play for the Saints for a few years. Another story he told us completely unrelated to football: he had a guy working for him with, well, questionable immigration papers. And he had just come to Texas, and it was about 15 degrees that night, so Bo let him sleep in his warehouse, on a pallet with a sleeping bag. The next day the dude came to him and said he'd spent the night with some animal that looked like a giant rat -- it had crawled right in the sleeping bag with him. Bo found out it was a possum; the Mexican had never seen one before. And then they spent that bitter cold night together...The next day, Bo asked him how it had gone with him and the possum. "Oh, yeah, he came back," he said. "And I ate him."

Bo's a good dude.

UH fans are fucking obnoxious as hell, though. They are the little brothers of aggy, the little brothers of Texas and the SEC. They are fairweather and bandwagon as hell, but during the Yeoman days and the run and shoot era, they were really fucking good teams. And my god that Phi Slamma Jamma basketball dynasty was incredible. The 1983 game vs Louisville might have been the finest college b-ball game of all time. And then they spit the bit vs NC State in the next round in one of the worst college b-ball games of all time.

So UH is slowly becoming the next Baylor.... good to know. *groans*

UH is led by one of the greatest Horns in UT history in Major Applewhite. They aren’t becoming Baylor by any stretch. Kendal Briles bears the sins of his father. If he hasn’t already, he should publicly apologize for whatever role he had in covering up rape at Baylor. Kendal Briles is a fellow Horn and has a shot at redemption. His father is a piece of shit and should never be allowed to coach again.

At best, Kendal Briles has done absolutely nothing to apologize or show even the slightest bit of contrition for what happened at Rapelor. At worst, he was complicit in helping to cover it up.

In short, fuck Kendal Briles.

And I loved Major as a player, but his shenanigans with little seamus don't exactly lend credence to his judgment.

They have the best ranked football team in Texas over the last maybe five years.

not even close TCU has kicked the shit out of them in that department and Baylor could be argued as being better as well in spite of the last season

2017 TCU #9
2016 No Texas Programs Ranked
2015 TCU #7 UH #8 Baylor #13
2014 Baylor #5 TCU #6
2013 Baylor #13 aggy #18

What a terrible take.  UofH has four former Baylor coaches on their staff.  And not Baylor coaches from 5-10 years ago either.  Coaches who were on the staff when all the shit went down and who were directly involved.

Not Baylor by any stretch?  Lulz, they’re the most Baylor-lite team in D1 football.

Major made a "major" mistake taking that job their fans and even more so their administration has a dramatically out of reality expectation for their program especially now

the firing of Levine was pretty ridiculous and while they can claim that hiring Herman and his accomplishments proved the Levine firing was justified the reality is Herman had those seasons with a ton of Levine recruits and really Herman had ONE season

if Major is lucky he will win 8 or 9 games this year and some school that is desperate will hire him away and pay that ridiculous buyout, there is a good chance he starts 2-2 with losses to Tech and AU and then a week off and they face Tulsa that was 2-10 last year yet thumped UH then they face a string of teams that they beat last year when they should have lost to them and teams they lost to that they should have beat (they had a erratic season last year starting with the canceled UTSA game)

if he only wins 8 games total including a bowl he might be in trouble and if he wins 9 he needs to to GTFO even if he can even if it means taking a "lesser job" and a low pay rate because of the buyout, but at a place with realistic expectations and no stupid crazy buyout and stupid fans and administration

the bad news is last season was the year when top programs were desperate and that made even mid level programs more desperate so he was not in position to take advantage of that

if he manages to win 10 or more games (doubtful) then he needs to hold the line on signing an extension and he needs to make sure UH knows that stupid buyout is over with and will not be renewed with a second contract (which UH will not accept) and that means Major needs to  have a 3rd good season and the buyout will be much more reasonable and he will be gone if he has two seasons in a row with 9 or more wins

lol.  Kendall Briles was the one promising all those "white women" to recruits at Baylor.  He's every bit as much of a piece of shit as his father, and likely more so.

UH is selling what tiny bit of soul it ever had in an effort to join a big boy conference, and it probably isn't going to ever happen.  Fertitta flunked out of Texas Tech years ago, and found succor at Houston (where he still never graduated).  None of that really matters as he has obviously been wildly successful, but it helps explain in part what he's doing with Houston.  He's had a hard on for getting UH recognition he feels it deserves, while at the same time belittling Tech.  It's a weird psychosis, but those who compared it to aggie syndrome earlier in the thread were on the money.

UH has made clear they will do anything to join the big boys, including hiring rape enablers.  They should be shamed for it.

Major isn’t going anywhere if UH has a great season. I’m pretty biased in his favor since is my 3rd favorite Horn of all time and is a good person as well. He has great support from Pres. Khator, Tilman Fertitta and is in one of the best situations recruiting wise in the country. If he wins 8 to 9 games a season with 10 win seasons sprinkled in he will be their next Bill Yeoman. In my opinion, the UH job is in the top 3 best jobs/programs in the Group of Five and is a better place to win than a Power 5 program like Wake Forest.

Houston's financials show the Cougars exist in a state of athletic limbo. While the Cougars earned $18.7 million more than the next "Group of Five" public school in Texas, they also were $31.6 million away from the lowest "Power Five" school.

The American also exists in this floating chasm between the Football Bowl Subdivison's two factions. In 2017-18, the conference received the highest College Football Playoff revenue distribution among the G5 leagues. But despite the American's insistence of the "Power Six" narrative, it still trailed the next closest P5 conference by $41.5 million

Is it possible, that the hiring of J.B. Milliken could help the potential for the land around Houston to be utilized as a satellite campus for the greater UT academic programs..?

The 1990 UH game was the most electric and fun home game that I have ever attended.  You had a Texas fanbase every bit as downtrodden as we are today, and UH was a principal nemesis in those dark years, having run up the score repeatedly in recent contests.

And we went wild.  And dookystomped em.  It was the highlight of the Shock the Nation tour.  People were still stomping the bleachers in the student section well into the 4th quarter when everyone was fucked up and the game well in hand.

UH started SWC play in 1976, and the conference broke up in 1996, and during those 20 years they won 7 times, so no they weren't a true rival.  But they did win the SWC in their first year. Their best success was using the run and shoot, which was new, novel, and people didn't know how to defend it.

Also about that time, the had a big cheating scandal.  They hired a law firm to investigate what was really going on prove they were honest. They fired that firm announcing nothing had been found.  A few weeks later, the NCAA put them on probation.  They blamed Texas for turning them in (as opposed to admitting they cheated).

After the SWC broke up, their program had terrible facilities and support.  They wanted to bring Football back to campus and want to play Texas in their old tinker toy stadium.  Dodd$ wanted to play it at Reliant Stadium, but they insisted and built some bleachers to add capacity.  Couple days before the game, and inspector condemned those bleachers .  They refused to refund those tickets, rather allowed those ticket holders to watch a closed circuit broadcast.

Now they have hired a rape accessory for their football staff, and want to swing their dicks like they are big boys.  Well....fuck them.

As I recall it, a hornfans poster who happened to be a licensed engineer saw a post about the temp bleachers, went out there himself to inspect, raised hell with the powers that be, and got the bleachers removed before the game.
