Venmo is terribly unusable

Recommended Posts

Try to use Zelle instead.

1.  Venmo requires a recipient to "cash out" once $$ comes into you.  That added step can result in your $$ being held & them charging you a fee for a faster inbound to your account, especially if you are busy when the notification comes in & you forget to go back & do the cash out.

2.  Zelle is instant into your acct.

Transfer the money to whomever you choose. It will be debited directly from your account. You are trying to add an unnecessary step.

If you want no associated fees, make sure you transfer from a bank account and mark as for “personal” not business use.

The problem with Zelle is that many people don't use it. Now if your circle of friends all use Zelle, then you're cool.

I feel like it's been said, but in case you're still not connecting the dots... you don't need to transfer money into Venmo. I've never done that, and I can't think of any reason why anyone would ever do so. Once your Venmo account is linked to your bank, select the person you want to send money to, enter the amount, then send it.

You could say the same thing about Venmo ____ months / years ago.  Expand your circle & have their 2 friends tell their 2 friends [ & so on, & so on /comercial ]

You need to read some of his posts before you make a rash judgement like that

Yeah... I was more referring to how much I hate Venmo's UI. As for what he is trying to do (add money to his venmo account?) can't help him there.

This is what I was missing.  Didn't know you could do it in one step.  Army Brat and I met for coffee this morning at 6, and he straightened me out.

You guys link your debit cards to shit? I don’t put that shit anywhere. My debit card is used only to withdraw cash at an ATM. I just always figure the venmo fee for credit cards is a premium I pay for when they eventually lose my data in a hack I won’t worry about my checking account getting fucked.

  • 11 months later...

Venmo sucks donkey d*cks. I have an account debit number in exactly one place on the entire internet, in venmo. The number was stolen, meaning venmo is still insecure. And they haven’t even reported a hack.

In addition, I tried to delete the debit card and just link to a bank account. The app is literally broken and won’t work

Beware of using this piece of sh*t. I try to get everyone I know to use Zelle, but they won’t.

Yeah, I discovered Zelle when a friend needed money, all other options were in one way or other a pain in the ass because I would have to sign up, give info. Zelle is already linked to my bank and thousands of other banks. Most likely the person or business you need to send money or get money, their bank is linked to Zelle.

Zelle

  • No Fees (typically), your bank pays them
  • Transfer is from Bank Account to Bank Account with no middle man
  • Because it is to your bank account you just have it.  You don't need to transfer it again, tie it up as Venmo Funds or pay a fee to use your money.
  • Venmo is like getting chips at a casino and then having to go to a window to cash out where they take a fee to change chips into cash.
  • If you already have your Bank's app on your phone you can just use Zelle from there.  No need to add the Zelle app to your phone.

Buddy is a landlord who often took payment on Venmo. Out of the blue, they froze one of his payments and could not give him an answer why. Took 3 weeks, dozen phone calls, tons of documents to prove his identity and they just went round and round. Finally got money over a month later

I like Zelle, but the only problem I've found is only one email tied to a bank account can be used to send money or accept money. They can't be mixed, so if I use the email tied to a personal bank account I can send money, but if I use same email tied to another bank account, I can only send.  I use it to pay some random stuff from personal account from Wells, but can only receive rent from my tenants via business Chase - no mixing.

Kind of a pain, and I could just change an accout to another email, but I like the primary one I use for everything banking.

*Also just found out through an eviction proceeding, that partial payment of rent is considered *accepting* that partial rent, thus negating right to evict (AZ).  So accepting the ease of rent electronically, also accepts the possibility of a shithead tenant fucking you.  And deleting said tenant from the list of accepted recipients on Zelle doesn't change that, they can still somehow pay beacuse I guess there's a previous history.*

Appreciate any Zelle experts letting me know how to stop that.

Maybe I was missing something today but it appears that I can't pay people using my Venmo balance anymore? I have to cash out my balance and pay them from my bank account? And if I need that money back in my account today I get hit with a near 2% fee. So it costs me $5 to have someone Venmo me then me Venmo a third-party unless I want to just float them $300 for the next 2 days.

What a fucking scam this has turned into.
