Some dummy felt the need to come strutting around here like Mick Jagger because we beat KANSAS.

That’s nice and all. We’re supposed to beat Kansas. Only two moron HCs have failed to do so in recent years.

I’m all for giving the guy a chance, but there is no reason in this world to act like he’s the second coming of Vince Lombardi because he beat Kansas.

Some of you love losing, love the coaching carousel we are currently on, and just love watching the world burn. Positive, optimistic people just hurt your feelings. Lol

What makes 8 wins a successful season? Many in this thread are pissed at the thought of a 8 win season others are pleased with 8 wins. Is a 8 win season at Louisiana Tech in Conference USA or whatever different than a 8 win season at Washington or USC? Sonny Dykes has 5 losing season in 12 years, does that matter?

Again, everyone has stats to support their arguments and those stats can be skewed in any direction you wish.

8 wins would be one of sarks best seasons

If we loved losing we’d be pushing for a sark extension

Nice little screed, but you make some assumptions (with a couple of variations) that I respectfully question. Woven throughout, you assume to know what motivates another individual. It's something we all do but it's faulty. Are all of the soldiers fighting for Russia right now doing it because they love Putin? Of course not. It's a wide variety of motivations, and internal priorities, just like a 17-18 YO football recruit. We all deal with limited brain power and so we simplify. It works to some degree, no doubt SOME players will be swayed totally by money.

Does Texas recruit itself? To some degree, but if it were only Texas then Ewers would have stayed with his original commitment, correct?

I would also argue that turning over an entire starting 22 "at a lower profile school" is a different prospect than doing the same thing at a blue blood.

You have stated you "off the Sark bandwagon" previously, and I don't mean this with any disrespect, but you are letting your emotion cloud your logic.

He also has a vested interest in believing that NIL solves all problems.

Certainly, you have to be competitive with the other haves, but it sure as hell doesn't mean you're going to get every player you want or need.

Lots of teams in the past have been very free with "the bag" (eaTme, Auburn, OU post-Switzer, even SMU) and have little to show for it.

Holy shit is this some awful wish casting. Herman never assembles this roster in his wettest of wet dreams. Since recruiting is a major component of the job, you can't just say give Herman the fruits of Sarkisian's labor.

Wow. Some of you guys are just completely delusional.

Herman was an asshole and terrible recruiter, but to act like Sark is doing something special here is a hilariously bad take. Herman is 10x the gameday coach.

Re: clock management. It’s been situationally pretty terrible actually. Many games I’ve watched us inexplicably let the clock roll off at the end of the half with 3 timeouts available.

This just gets parroted and it’s quite obvious no one thinks about it.

Offense: Jones, Conner, Majors, Bijan, RoJo, Whittington, Sanders, Card - majority of staters/contributors. Also Angilau was an entrenched starter.

Defense: Sweat, Coburn, Broughton, Collins, Ford, Overshown, Gbenda, Barron, Jamison, Cook, Thompson - majority of staters/contributors.

Sark plus adds for this year basically come down to Banks, Worthy, Watts, and some edge bodies with Sorrell as a highlight. Ewers is also worth mentioning but objectively hasn’t been significantly better than Card this year - maybe next season.

And those guys, especially on defense, have never been much more than JAGs (excluding the obvious), until the latter half of this season.

There are optimists, realists, pessimists and every shade in between on the fandom spectrum, including fans that oscillate in between different categories. Not to mention, the infinite number of ways one can interpret the current and past results through ones own shade of fandom. There is no right or wrong answer.

Look around Pete. We just hung 50 on a bowl bound team. Does it feel like it? It's like the usual suspects just want us to lose for the sake of being right about their middle of the season of his first year prediction.

Who were they playing against? What did the conference look like at that time? What was the condition of the team prior to their arrival? Were they on sanctions(loss of 30 scholarship per year)?

I picked the number 8 at random, but we can do 9, or 10.

Sark 9 win seasons. 1.

Dykes. 3

Sark 10 win seasons. 0

Dykes. 2

Stanford was on probably the best run they've ever had, Chip Kelly was at Oregon playing for titles, and USC had Pete Carroll his fist year then all his recruits the next couple after that. Pac 10 was strong back then. Then when Sark went to USC they had been under a 30 scholarship per year sanction because of the Bush incident. So they didn't have and couldn't get the talent they had previously.

No one gives a shit what Dykes did at Mary's School for the Blind. When he was at a real school he went

1-11

5-7

7-5

5-7

His one 9-3 season at La Tech they played 4-8 Virginia and 2-10 Illinois. Those were their signature wins.

His 10 win season at SMU the only P-5 team they played was 5-7 TCU.

So basically his recipe for success was to not schedule anyone good.

  Gotta love this board-

"We should be better because We Are Texas". -Surly

We are like a slutty girl, mad because we have that reputation while still walking around with thigh highs, a half shirt, and stripper heels on.

We want a good coach but we fire coaches. We want good players but we have a reputation of not developing them.

We think we can money-whip players through NIL. News flash, all the "haves" can money whip players. We are like the people in my neighborhood thinking their shit doesn't stink because they have a little money, not realizing there are multiple areas in every city like this. Kids wanna get paid but more than that they want a shot at the league. They are smart enough to understand NIL money isn't NFL money. NFL money is life changing money. Right now Lincoln Riley is trying to recruit away our best wide receiver. He is saying Texas can't develop players, why don't you look at the last time they had a receiver drafted and where they went. Kid goes back to 2020 and sees Duverney and CJ drafted in the 3rd round. Then Riley encourages kid to go back and look at CD Lamb and Hollywood Brown drafted in the 1st round. Now all the sudden the kid isn't fighting for balls, is avoiding contact, and looks like he just doesn't want to be out there. Coincidence? I think not. He looks like a kid trying to save himself for an NFL showcase season at another school.

We blast our coach for not using the portal well enough or not getting elite players at needed positions, while simultaneously not understanding the hurdles that Texas had put in place far before said coach got here. We think NIL and the portal should solve everything, when schools with far better reputations can offer a kid exactly the same thing we can with a better rep for developing players.  Our last 1st round QB was 06. North Dakota State has had 2 since then. Our last RB was Foreman. The Aggies have had 3 since then. TCU has put out 3 tackles in the time that Texas has put out 1. Aggs have put out 3 guards since Texas' last one. We've had 5 WRs drafted since 2008. OU has had 10.  LSU has had 13. Clemson 12. tOSU 13. Hell even Aggy has had 6.

This thing was always gonna take some time simply because we have to reinvent ourselves 1st. Coach has to sell his work he did elsewhere because he sure as shit can't sell Texas when it comes to development. That is why you are seeing Sark be able to get better recruits than PK. Sark can sell the guys he got into the league with his offense. Largely though, we are gonna have to prove that we aren't who they say we are in order to get back to the mountain top. NIL or no NIL. Our portal gets will largely be guys who weren't playing elsewhere. Elite talent will likely have to come through recruiting. We probably aren't going to steal teams' best players like Riley. So sit back and settle in for the ride.

Lastly, you can thank Mack for this shit. He got lazy on his side of the ball back around 05. You could see it in 09 when we had no difference makers on offense while Muschamp's side of the ball was monstrous. After Boom left both sides went downhill. We've been suffering ever since. Thanks Mack!!!

I think you think by continuing to say this it will cause some sort of reaction. I am not emotional like Derka. I thought Mack Brown wasn't a good coach. He just did a good job of accumulating talent. We keep going on about what THIS coach did or THAT coach did when the real reason coaches win is recruiting. Nick Saban, Smart, Meyer, Dabo have bin winning recruiting. In our time wandering the desert its been recruiting being down as the reason why. The next guy that can go on a long recruiting streak is the guy who will bring us back. Good players make coaches look better than they are. I am not talking about a singular flukey year, I mean sustained success.

Well it looks like you are going to be miserable because Sark isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He has already won enough games to buy himself a 3rd. Recruiting is up. IF he wins out he will have Texas in the conversation going into next year, especially with the Bama rematch. Shit coach or not. This board is going to be fun the next couple years.

He was getting 3 regardless.

Bama will be ass next year.

Ignore facts all you want, this year is a disappointment because of his coaching. Tech, Oklahoma State, and TCU were all coaching failures by him.

better coaches have this team and talent at 10 wins already.

Just because we think this coach incapable of success doesn’t mean we WANT this coach to fail.

It isn’t even a subtle distinction, it’s a HUGE distinction, and you’re here repeating your “YOU JUST WANT TEXAS TO LOSE SO YOU CAN BE RIGHT” mantra ad infinitum. Just because Thatguy repeats something over and over doesn’t make it correct.
