Based on this shot, Helm's head is turned. The ball is thrown three feet or more to his left and a foot off the ground. Helm just gave up. The pass was uncatchable. The safety was a non factor.

If indeed the safety was in full sprint (which he wasn't), I could understand our shell-shocked QB throwing it away, however this is where experience is supposed to kick in. If the safety is coming on that strong and we know there wasn't much pressure, a quick pump fake, the safety commits, and it's an 80 yd TD pass.

Quinn managed 17 points that could have easily been only 6 points. SC scored like 44 against the Ags, Auburn 43. We scored 17, with a rock solid running game and kick ass defense. Wisner had 186yds on 33 carries. We've got a fly in the ointment, so to speak. (The phrase seems sort of appropriate)

I actually did spend time as a TE at Mary Hardin Baylor, which is light years away from how good Gunnar helm is haha. When he started his route he immediately saw Anderson deep and nobody else close…that should have caused him to at least check with Quinn earlier in his route. 3rd and 7 with 7 people on the line of scrimmage. I could be way off based but a guy as good as helm should pick up on little moments like that and use them to hurt the defense.

Appreciate the response.  I’m curious about people’s experiences in that we could actually learn from others.  Know quite a few UMHB folks too.

in the end, the timing is off for whatever anyone wants to attribute it.

The Ewers that I saw did make some quality throws on a dime. He ran for a 1st down on the play Banks got leg whipped. Quinn also had his 4-5 WTF plays! Red Zone errors are killers trying to put a team away.

We’re used to the Hot/Cold Quinn, but damn man, I wish him the best in his future, but I really think he isn’t going to be in a Longhorn uniform next year. Quinn needs to finish this season strong, or I think next year won’t be in the NFL, but somewhere like Michigan State.

Damn, imagine Texas going 11-1, with Wisner rushing for damn near 200 yards, and yet still being salty that we aren't winning with the type of QB play that you'd prefer.

That's because we are winning in spite of Ewers due to our defense and OL/running game. Without the #1 defense, we'd likely have 3-4 losses right now, just because you want to dismiss the most important position on the field, doesn't mean the rest of have to do the same.

I've obviously been critical of Quinn, but this is the week for him to step up and really get this offense going. I can't imagine Kirby will be able to manufacture the chip on his team's shoulder compared to our first game in Austin. We will be much more prepared for their defense this time around. And we've actually located and implemented a solid running attack after that loss to UGA.

Though the game ended up being less stressful than anticipated, getting through the A&M is big. Now we can let loose a little and focus on bigger prizes.

Come out and establish a running game, and have Quinn throw vertically down the field. Be aggressive. Let WRs make plays down the field. 2022 Alabama game 2.0. LFG.

Yeah I’m with you, I like the banter. I was a part of the program when we played for our first national championship game in program history so I’ve seen some top notch football, albeit Div III. We ran a straight smash mouth football offense but we had a couple play action passes that were lethal and our starting TE that year ran the play really well. Helm is going to make a good NFL TE real soon. I think had he looked back that he would have slowed down slightly and that ball would have been catchable. Quinn was just looking for the easy first down IMO.

don't have a dog in this fight but I would assume we score more at home also. but maybe not

Yes. Sark has basically gone to playing Akers football. To beat Georgia the passing game has to be better. Texas is averaging sub 200 yards the last 3 games. I would love to see it, but I doubt Texas can just line up and run for 200+ vs Georgia. Would be nice time for Quinn to hit 270+ yard mark

Speaking of tight ends this guy probably doesn’t know shit about football.

He’s not wrong, should have pulled away in the second half.  I’ll take the victory all day but the offense will have to get a full game or two of being consistent to win it all and the reason it’s not is mostly on the QB.

It’s not entirely wrong

Some people just love to see a guy go from elite throws to retarded decisions in the span of 15 game minutes of action.

MHB has a beautiful home stadium and campus, for a smaller/ private school. I’ve never seen a FB game there but a grandson of a close family member played FB there in the last decade. I’ve only been there for HS Band competitions.

Honestly, this has been probably the most University of Texas Sports of all threads on this board. The best part is it has also had a delicious Surly twist.

It's been an interesting and wild thread.

Hopefully, we're bitching/ about/defending how Quinn played but/and won the SEC Championship next week at this time.

I certainly am not denying any issues however a lot of the issues are not entirely because of Quinn, yet being the QB you will get some the heat and that is to be expected.

I will say this….if Quinn starts every game from this point forward it will give us our best chance to win the national championship.

When he's objectively better than the starter, yes. No one gave two shits about Matt Nordgren except his family.

“Texas is winning in spite of Quinn.”

Dumbass post of the year.

No it isn’t.

Quinn could easily have thrown three picks against aggy. Additionally he fumbled and threw a pick six, both inside the twenty. And we still won.

We could have run the ball the whole game and beaten those chumps.

Quinn did a few nice things. He also tried to single-handedly give the game away.

The Quinn that played against A&M loses against Georgia this week.

I said long along that when Sark decided to bring Quinn back in the Georgia game after half time, the bed for the season was made. For better or worse, not switching then locked us in with Quinn for the rest of the season. I also spelled out exactly why I think Sark made that choice.

I hope it doesn't cause issues in the long term for Texas, but it might. On the flip side changing may have created different issues.

We now gotta run what we brung, and hope we brought enough.

I believe in this D, this Oline and the skill positions. I think all of those components are championship caliber.

......... so... let go see.

I would add I think part of that also rests with Sark. Not disputing your points but Sark seems to hesitate to press the Run The Ball button on repeat when it's working.

At this point no one knows if Arch is better than Quinn.

The entire point of this thread isn't if Arch is better than Quinn. It's can we win with Quinn.

If you haven't grasped that reality at this point, dunno what to tell you.

About 13 years ago we hired the OC from MHB to design our 12U youth football offense. We dominated the hill country and it only costed a couple thousand dollars.

DIII football coaches are cheap.

We’ve only scored 17 second half points in the last three games. That has to improve.

There has definitely been a drop in play/increase in mistakes the last few 2nd halves, but we’ve also seen that Sark doesn’t just go for the jugular and try to score as many points as possible with a lead in the 2nd half.

It can be frustrating because it has made some of our scoreboards closer than the games really were, but it’s tough to argue with the results, especially since we have had a couple dominant, soul-crushing drives when we needed them late.

This team is playing winning football and I don’t think we’re done winning yet. At this point, who gives a fuck how many we score in the 2nd half if we win?

Let me ask you two questions…

How is your confidence that we will beat Georgia right now with the team as is?

Now if Quinn had to have his appendix removed Friday night what would your confidence be ?

Against Georgia, Quinn could have ended up with about 6 picks.

Here we are after game 12 and people are still hoping and wishing Quinn takes the reigns of the offense. Tells you all you need to know.

As things stand right now, if I killed your straw man in cold blood how confident would you be I'd go to prison?

Now, let's say your straw man had an appendix removed before I murdered him what would your confidence be?

Finally, what part of my prior posts did you fail to understand?

Final answer, probably about the same.

We are more likely to win with Quinn.

Unless you think Satk doesn't give a fuck about winning and keeping his job, it makes no sense to switch to QB2 at this point.

Please read all my posts on the topic on this page before quoting one.  That way I don't have to keep retreading my main point over and over and over. I'm not asking you to go back a page but it's just a few posts up.

Go ahead and point out exactly where I suggested we should bench Quinn for the CCG or any moving forward. Or anywhere after the UF game. Hint, I didn't.

Please enlighten us about how we would be a better team going forward with Arch instead of Quinn.

Please keep Quinn’s W-L record as a starter in your thoughts and prayers.

Come on man.

I am not going back to read all of this shit.

I just got the overall vibe that you, and several others, think Arch gives us a better chance to win than Quinn.

No one actually knows that and now is not the time to find out.

We are all pretty sure Arch will be great but Quinn is starting the rest of the year if healthy because Sark knows he is our best chance to win.

We will see some Arch package plays against Georgia and that is awesome.

Quinn is a known quantity this season. He was absolute dogshit against Georgia and has done very little since then (outside of having one good game against a banged up UF secondary) to show that he will do anything other than repeat the same performance. He has been nothing other than a major disappointment this season.  It is because of the defense that we’re 11-1 and to think otherwise is foolish.  Every major offensive statistic shows the offense has been nothing more than average since Quinn came back from injury.

Any time Arch steps on then field there is a different vibe to the offense and they play with a much different energy when he’s QB1.  He may only have mastery of half of the offense that Quinn does, but I believe he can run that half better than Quinn has shown this season.

I have zero confidence that Quinn can beat Georgia and would prefer to roll the dice with the kid.

What have you seen Quinn do since the Georgia game that gives you any confidence he can win on Saturday?
