I maintain that Sark's playcalling was the issue over Quinn today.

What Kirby has learned over the years in the SEC is you have to let your nuts hang to win these games. Sark got way too cute with the playcalling. That shit doesn't work in the SEC in big games. Just drop back and throw a goddamn deep slant for a touchdown instead of running double fake finesse reverses or LOS passes that need to be perfectly blocked in the red zone to succeed.

think this is quite true

I believe @Treefidy was talking about this pass with the stupid double fake that led to the sack. The dude was wide open in the corner. If it wasn’t meant to go downfield that’s dumb as fuck. Stop making excuses for Quinn not reading the field correctly.

Lol, as soon as he turned around he had two dudes in his face. I genuinely think Ewers is a bad QB, but this is ridiculous to blame on him.

You just can't consistently win big games against great SEC defense with a guy who isn't mobile. That's not a knock on Quinn because he is who he is but he's not built for what we need when we need that extra yard and the OL breaks down. You have to be somewhat mobile. Even the backup for Georgia could run on us.

Every time they went empty set you knew they were running a QB draw, but we never adjusted to it. It went for 7-9 yards every time, including OT.

Explain to me how a QB that’s much more durable and an infinitely higher threat in the running game would lead us to a worse record this year?
What passing qualities has QE consistently exhibited that are so much better than Sam’s?

He might be marginally better in the intermediate game, but he’s been far too inconsistent to rise head and shoulders about what junior year Sam showed.

QE’s deep ball is not any more impressive than Sam’s was.

Also, Sam racked up his stats DESPITE playing for Tom Herman’s Neanderthal offense… He played a lot of his games with numb shoulders, as he was asked to play fullback as a QB.
The sheer fact that Sam doesn’t fall over when brushed by a TE makes him more of an asset than QE has been since the OU game.

Quinn played well enough to win today.  He is NOT the reason we lost.  That typed, as I said last week, it's really hard to meet our obvious ceiling or potential with him under center.  Now, the stew is already cooked for this year so have to hope he gets hot, but his inability to really move or run to the point he's no threat on ZR's and the fact he typically will compress the field to 25 yards from the LOS really limits the ceiling of the offense.  Tonight, we got 2 plays or air yards more than 25 yards..... that a really good game for him.  You can't lose that type of game.  Let's hope he gets insanely hot especially on 3rd downs in the playoffs.... He wasn't perfect and he still takes bad sacks.  But, he's not the reason we lost today and he was good enough to win.  Too bad the coaching staff wasn't.

I could eat a hot pocket in the amount of time it takes Sam Ehlinger to unload a throw. The everse spin for a 15 yard loss or fb lead for a fumble would be the ranch.

Ewers wasn’t in the top 3 reasons why we lost today, but tell me, do you actually believe that when the game is on the line the combo of sark and Quinn is going to go win the game for you? I had zero hope that we were going to get into the end zone on the last drive in regulation or in OT.

Agree. Quinn played well enough tonight.

Top 3 problems tonight were:

Burt

Ref fuckery

Sark

Because he wasn’t good, fumbled all the time, and takes forever to throw.

The next time you're watching a random CFB game, focus on the QB. Time how long it takes until you see the QB make a throw that Quinn can't make. You won't have to wait very long.

Quinn is insanely limited in terms of the throws he can make and he's not a running threat. This hamstrings our entire offense. He can throw screens, lofted passes, and slants that get plenty of YAC outside the red zone. But when you're in the redzone you need more in your arsenal and Quinn doesn't have it. You need arm strength.

Quinn has the arm. Seen him throw deep outs. He does not use nearly enough. Feathers a lot of ball that he should just rip.

Fun fact: at one point Sam actually, per real data, had top 5 ranked yards per sack.

Ref fuckery and Burt. Ewers had a poor game but I agree that he wasnt the main reason we lost. He does need to stop with the braindead picks. He has one per half. If he got rid of those, we would be unbeatable with this defense.

That's fair but another reason why Ewers isn't a game changer.

If you have issues running the ball it helps to have a mobile QB. Do you know a big reason why we struggle to run the ball at times? Teams bring their inside LBers to the LOS because they know if Ewers drops back he is zero threat to take off up the middle.

You can't ask a QB "to be the entirety of your offense" but we are paying Ewers to be a game-changer. He's not that.

We struggle to run on Georgia because Conner, Majors, and Campbell cannot block their DTs. Same reason we lost to them last time. You cannot ask your QB to drop back on 3rd and 9 or longer all game long and you cannot ask him to recover from all those offensive penalties.

Running game was bad, but we still should have won without it. Quinn was doing well with certain routes and play calls, and Sark went away from them when it mattered. I don't believe for a second that UGA was adjusting and taking those plays away from us.

The double fake pass reverse whatever the fuck playcall was AWFUL. Way too cute. Please learn from this, Sark.

That pass was at least 6 yards short of the first down even if it was caught.  Is that on Quinn, the play call, or did GA just play it perfectly?

You don't have to defend anything "perfectly" to intercept a ball throw at low velocity. Quinn sure as fuck shoulda thrown it away.. The guy was fucking covered. Newsflash, Quinn. If your receiver is covered, either throw it away, throw it where only he can catch it, or take off running. Fuck.  Had he thrown it away, we would have, worst case, punted to GA, probably stopped them, they wouldn't have gotten that last FG and we would have won the game with ours.

He threw a single pick. The other ball hit Bond in both hands. The defense didn't play well when we needed them to.

Call me crazy but I would take Ehlinger over Ewers.

Go look at the numbers. There's no major passing advantage for Ewers and he has much better weapons. Throw in the fact that Ehlinger is a much better runner. I think we would be in a similar position with Ehlinger if not in a better position.

Had to look it up.

Here is how unbelievably unclutch quinn is.

Since 2022, there are a total of TWO games where we won while being behind or tied with less than 7 mins left in the 4th quarter

those are 2023 houston.  Go ahead score 5:30 left in 4th.   And I-state 2022. Go ahead td with 4:45 left in 4th.

I will give him two small points where he scored, but the D failed us.  ou 2023 last year. We took the lead with 1:15 left and D failed us.  And bama 2022, took the lead with 1:29 left and lost (refs fucked us hard).

That being said. He couldn't win GA2 this year,  Wash last year,.... and  tx tech, osu and wash  all in 2022

He literally has not won a game when behind with less than 4:30 on the clock

some of this is sark

some of this is Auburn

some of this is lack of discipline (sark)

sad thing is I don’t think Georgia is very good.  Etienne is a bad mofo, but the rest of their offense sucks

Ehlinger was a significantly better QB than Ewers. Ewers would have never had that 2018 team in the Big 12 CCG, and beat Gerogia in the Sugar Bowl.

He threw 27 picks over 4 years…. That’s just over 6 per year.

All of this while playing behind a shit line, with slow receivers (sometimes) catching his passes, while playing for a little league coaching staff.

The fact that we’re even having this debate speaks volumes about our current QB situation.

We've all watched Bama and UGA in these SEC championship and NC games for years. These tight games are always decided by a HC making ballsy, aggressive calls to find a way to win. Kirby did it with the fake punt today. Momentum is EVERYTHING, whether it's stopping it or gaining it. I hope Sark looks within and adjusts accordingly.

Yeah cause passing from the 3 yard line adds so many yards...stfu you stupid bitch. Haynes also rushed for 100 yards....so go fuck yourself. Haynes outperformed Quinn against Georgia in 1 game vs Quinn's 2. That is the facts you stupid fucking bitch.

Quinn wasn't even the QB in two of those games. He got hurt against 2022 Bama and 2023 Houston.

Texas can’t win without the run game (vs real competition). This was pretty standard Quinn. Some really good, 3-4 turnover worthy plays, couple bad sacks, and some misses. When you have an inconsistent QB it’s hard to throw it 6-7 times to score on a drive

by the way Ewers didn’t lose this game. That was a collaborative effort by the offense to lose this one (penalties, drops, guards really struggling).

Do not blame the defense for a goddamned thing. The defense is what has kept Quinn in the starting lineup all year and kept Sark from having to make a change.
