what has quinn led us to? here the last two seasons he’s been one of our worst, least dependable offensive players. just because he’s the QB doesn’t mean that he’s leading the team or that he’s responsible for our team’s accomplishments. sark has turned this program around, not quinn. in fact he’s turned this program around in spite of quinn and his routinely underwhelming performances.

I think this is good example of why Quinn struggles on deep balls and what I said a couple pages ago.  This is the Bond throw. There is so much room to the right to lead Bond and allow his to adjust to underthrow ball

That's a 30 yard cross field throw with a guy 10 yards away from the receiver and running his way. Even on time he gets lit up at worst. Do the mph math. They don't play 3 safeties in the league. That throw in the league is usually vs cover 2.

So you’re saying he can’t make NFL throws with all his arm talent?

One factor in Quinn's favor going into B/CS is even though he hasn't played there either, he did go into Tuscaloosa and help beat the brakes off a very good Alabama team.  His ability to respond in a hostile road environment is not wholly unknown.  For Arch, it is definitely unknown.

And completely shit his pants at home against Georgia in a game where the defense did everything possible to allow Quinn to jump out to an big early lead.

That Bama game is almost 2 full seasons ago. Won't matter any this weekend.

That was exactly my thought when I was watching as well. Those deep throws should be easier than the intermediate tight window throws. You just have to throw the deep balls to an area and let your receiver  run under it.

You realize that you're just as bad as @Derka on this arguement -- you're just on the complete polar opposite side of the spectrum. The answer to the QE question is somewhere in the middle between his take and yours. I tend to lean more Derka's way in that QE has been largely unimpressive for a third-year starter with Heisman aspirations when the season started since returning from his early-season injury. I hope he's good at Kyle Field this week because I've become resigned to the fact Sark isn't considering any alternatives until Quinn simply cannot continue physically. He was good -- not great -- in the first half against Kentucky and then was just bad in the second. Was that entirely due to the ankle injury? I guess that's the likely case -- but if he's that hurt, put in the backup for some really good experience. We were up 24-7 at that point.

Don't get me started on Jaydon Blue -- I can't remember the last time I saw a RB that had such bad fumble-itis. I feel pretty confident in saying that was probably a fumble when he scored the TD.

Not hardly- He had a great game vs Gator, a mediocre game vs Pig, and really solid 1st half last game pre injury. But if you read this thread he hasn't played well since Michigan. You literally hang on his every throw bitching if he misses one. Meanwhile these other QBs on these good teams have horrible games. You see Milroe? Dart? Multiple games by Beck? I pay attention to what the bottom can look like and am happy we haven't had to worry about that here. Quinn isn't perfect at all but we are about to go to the playoffs for the second year in a row and I feel like most of you aren't thankful enough for what that guy has brought to the program. It's Simms 2.0

That is the frustrating thing about Quinn. How the fvck can you make that NFL throw to Helm in the endzone (he hit that with JT multiple times also) but not be able to make the deep throw which is easier.

Do we beat Alabama and go to the playoffs without Quinn as the starter last year? Just guess. True Fresh Arch? How about turnover machine Murphy? Okie dokie dipshit.

Decent throw and there is no reason to talk about PI. He continually throws this ball over the top of the guys, instead of leading them to open space.

Us stepping on our own toes is the reason that we aren’t blowing teams out with 4+ score margins like 2020 Bama. We aren’t skating by on 2 minute drills and walk off field goals like people seem to think we are. We had 5 fumbles a scope and score and a muffed punt vs Kentucky, that’s the very definition of shitting the bed and we still won by 3 scores.

And that will ultimately catch up to you against elevated competition, which we are about to see in every game from here on out.

Throw a better deep ball, lead him correctly and he doesn't slow down and let the DB run into him for an obvious -- to everybody but SEC officials -- DPI.

Multiple seasons of it. It isn't changing. But yes, very confusing  as to why he throws it like that. Every post is a skinny post for Quinn.

Dude cannot throw a deep post to save his life. Think back to the deep balls he has hit like the Moore throw up the sideline. He throws verticals decently. He throws posts vertical instead of out front. As son as I see a deep post route I already know its a miss.

What I mean is you are 1000% an apologist for Ewers -- basically the exact opposite mirror image of Derka on this issue. Neither one of you will give a single inch when the true perspective is in the middle of the two you. It might be closer to one than the other, and that's where the nuance comes in.

I think he is pretty even handed in his evaluation of Quinn. He only comes across as an apologist because he is responding to folks with extremely negative takes on everything Quinn does. If you had less people saying everything he does is bad and he is the worst QB ever, then @Thatguy wouldn't be on here saying "not so fast". I'm confident if instead we had a bunch of people saying Quinn has been perfect, @Thatguy would be correcting that shit as well.

Lets talk about something positive. That screen pass to Golden was fucking phenomenal. I get it, just a screen but how many times do you see QBs do that. I see QE do it better than anyone. I admit and it is well documented, his deep ball sucks but at the same time the lat 2 games we have had 4 no calls on obvious DPI deep shots.

His deep ball sucks. But what he did with it against Kentucky is good enough that we'll be very hard to stop (especially if PI is actually called). So long as he is giving the receiver a chance at it, it is light years better than in 2022 when the ball was never close enough to matter.

This thread brings me down.

As best I can tell, after reviewing all of this professional analysis,

1. Our superstar QB is irretrievably broken

2. Our coach is stupid or crooked

3.  Our only hope for success is to start the backup which won't happen because see #2.

Does this mean we're going to lose to the agroids and then head back to the wilderness like the end of the Mack years?

It all seems so clear.

SEC lets DBs get after it. I think they are actually very consistent in the way they call it, even if it can be frustrating

I’d have to go back and look but I guarantee you his feet are parallel to LOS. He’s trying to throw to the middle or right hash but his body is not in position so it’s going to go the way his arm goes when throwing across his body.

Based on what I have seen, you almost need to impregnate a WR to a PI call in the SEC. It is bizzarro Big 12 officiating. You get phantom holds called (Jake Majors vs UK) in the SEC. Easier to find bigfoot, than a holding call in the Big 12. Ticky tack PIs are called every game. SEC has a reputation as a defensive league and the officials call it with that in mind. The Big 12 was known for offense and the officials call it that way.

That is bit over the top. I think many would say if Quinn can show composure in the pocket with pressure and hit the intermediate throws, Texas can compete for a title. I think everyone has just accepted the deep ball is a lottery ticket

nah that’s actually a huge difference between the two of us- i’ve praised quinn plenty over the years, and continue to do so when he deserves it. i was praising him in the game thread on saturday. im not some big time quinn ewers hater- not even close. im a guy who is observing a QB who has been routinely underperforming and i simply call it like i see it, both good and bad. there just happens to be a)a lot of bad to talk about, and b)a cadre of posters in this thread, led by thatguy, who 100% refuse to acknowledge that QE is less than perfect, never mind the reality that he’s actually holding the rest of our offense back. His feet are almost never where they are supposed to be but that is that dude's superpower. He can throw pretty accurately all over the field up to intermediate depth with his feet and arm completely disconnected. So I am sure trying to coach him out of that when he has so much success is like talking to a brick wall.

"I praise Quinn plenty"

Lol! This dude literally took a year off last year after dragging QE up and down the year prior about how trash he is and how he would never win. I wish someone could do a post count over last season and I bet it was almost nothing up until the last throw in the Washington game. Now that Quinn has had his struggles this year dude has cranked the hate engine up to 11.

These same dudes were the guys saying Sark was trash too. I see that thread is buried deep in the archives.

Rewatched the game last night. In real time I thought Quinn played well in 1st half. On second watch it was even better. He had three poor throws deep. 2 to Bond and 1 to Wingo. All bad throws. Outside of that any criticism would be nitpicking.

The second half was disastrous and Quinn's brain turned into pudding after he became really hobbled. Luckily we didn't throw much and had that epic TD drive to close out the game.

Feels like a microcosm of his career. So much good, so much WTF.

It’s football. The risk of injury is there every play whether you are 100% healthy or not and is not a reason to not play someone if they are given the thumbs up from the training staff.

Odds are about half the roster is dealing with a minor sprain somewhere at this point in the season. It’s week 13.

Point is, every game forward is must win, so you take these risks, you save nothing.

Reminded me of the 2022 Baylor game where QE was just fucking up all over the place including a defensive td. Then Sark remembers he has Bejan and Roshon and just mashes for the win.
