I was at this game....one minute we were raising hell, high fiving, the next minute curled up in a fetal position on the ground crying, and then back again

there was certainly blame to go around.

we moved the chains.  our FG kicker kept fucking up when we did.  our D didn't help and our OL was getting manhandled.  Quinn wasn't great but he was nails in OT.

The INT left ASU with the ball at their own 21.  not good at all but we didn't give them a short field. 3 plays later, including 60 yard pass to skate-boo, TD.

we also win the game in regulation if the D doesn't give up a 4th and 2 on a halfback pass/trick play.

the OL did get manhandled pretty egregiously.  plenty of issues on all sides of the ball that game.

Yes, Texas wins if the defense plays like they did vs A&M. Defense was able to overcome the offense multiple times and they clearly wore down vs ASU. The big reason being the offense was terrible for long portions of the game.

Neither side is without blame, but going after the defense is just wrong.

our D did more than their part and was gassed by the end. someone just posted that 5 of 9 drives were 3 plays or less. that’s on the offense, and it only gasses out the defense in turn. we had the best defense in the country all year, and they were really again that day, but they kept on having to get right back out onto the field.

Are you talking about the QB that changed the play at the line and threw a perfect 4th down pass to save the game ?
That QB ?

when do we raise the “quinn changed the play at the line!!!!” banner? lmao, you and that play. “QE was underwhelming all season as well as all game vs ASU and he held his team back from reaching their potential.”

”YEAH BUT HE MADE A READ AT THE LINE ONE TIME, WHAT NOW MIOTHERFUCKER?!?!?” lol

right. my most cherished UT memories:

1)4th and 5

2)Ricky’s Run

3)that one time quinn ewers made a correct read at the LOS after stinking up the joint for an hour

I see that PFF is not sufficiently objective. Another metric is total QBR. Quinn's numbers here lend credence to the notion that he was good, not great. He was (barely) in the top 50 every year, but only cracked the top 25 once, never making top ten.

Ive already said there was blame to go around. O was a problem but 4th quarter is 4th quarter and the D and K failed to close it out(the D was great until then).   I've also already said our D was a championship type D and our O was not(some Quinn and some OL).

I'm fine with saying we need better QB play(I have had problems with Quinn's footwork and pocket discipline) but Quinn was fine and a complete 180 from where our QB situation had been.  If someone wanted Manning or believes Manning needed to be playing their problem is with Sark.

No. That didn't happen. Only the bad things happened. And the bad man did them to these guys personally.

and still the DC is going to expect his side to close it out in that situation.  I agree the safety was a problem and some of the cause of the disparate game time.  ASU squashed 2 6 minute drives around that.  the rest of it was basically normal back and forth.  Our D in the first half, when they are fresh, caused some(not all) of their own problems because they could not get off the field.  they gave up 12(to open the game),12,11,9 play drives.

gonna highlight this one too for all the people who’ve cussed me out the last two days for suggesting that quinn wasn’t awesome at Texas.

So it’s ok to shit on Bert?

Yeah, he should have made one of those FGs.  Ideally, the offense doesnt stall and settled for a 48 yarder.  Not what I’d call a satisfactory drive.

Thats where Ewers needed to seal the deal.  And Sark too.  We’ve lost several games because the offense did not finish the deal.  Bama 22.  OU and UW 23.  ASU in 24.  Don’t settle for FGs.

It's not moot.  What sort of learning disability do some of you have where you simply cannot understand that there were multiple contributing factors to our bad play?

Some of you idiots probably get mad when a hitter fails to get on base half the time.

No, no, no...it is all 100% on Quinn Ewers. He obviously took a lot of posters' moms out for a nice seafood dinner and never called them back.

0/2 of is pretty bad.  1/2 isn't great.  Who is shitting on Bert btw?  I'm not calling anyone names.  Just stating the facts that he missed twice inside 4 minutes left.

There’s been very little said positive about Bert since that day.  And you highlighted 0-2 when he was 1-3 with 4-4 on extra points.  There has no doubt been finger pointing at Bert.

The very first miss was 48 yards, roughly a 50/50 proposition.  He makes that ASU have 1:30 for a game tyer.  Who knows how it goes from there.  The offense’s objective is to score and leave no time.

Yes, he needs to make one of those.

1/3 is horrendous for a kicker.  That's a fact.  I've stated why I think Quinn plummeted a few times already.  He can't throw a consistently good deep ball.  Every QB drafted before him threw that pass better than him.  It was also the difference in us winning by 2 possessions for most of our games versus breaking their backs.  I just don't understand the personal vendetta that some of our fans have with Quinn.  It's sad.  A great deal are actively rooting for him to fail.  What the fuck is that about?  Derka's reasons are because some posters hurt his feelings.  THAT IS FUCKING INSANE TO ME!

who here has a vendetta against QE? who here has said they are rooting against him? where are you getting this from?

people are literally just talking about his performance and limitations as a qb, yet so many of you make it out to be like people are wishing death upon  the guy. you bombasticize the most objective and factual criticisms of him and then you get yourself all huffy and puffy over your own made up, totally skewed version of events. that’s what’s insane.

What's insane is the fact that you get offended when people don't agree with your degree of criticism.  You paint those people as "Quinn could do no wrong" supporters, when that's not at all true, at least in the vast majority of cases.  I think most here acknowledge his flaws.

Furthermore, when people point out other failings of other Longhorns you push back as if those failures didn't happen or you assert how they're a natural consequence of Quinn's play.  This is not personal, it's a question of the lopsidedness of your arguments, along with those of a few others.

speaking of worthy, this is the same website where a bunch of people were like, “man fuck xavier worthy, i hope that pussy transfers”, and those people didn’t catch 0.00001% of the hell as the people who said stuff like, “quinn ewers footwork and pocket presence are terrible.”

is that a fact? how is pointing out the special treatment that QE got from fans, or reiterating that position players are fair game for criticism and insults while the qb is off limits “moving the goal posts”?

also i’m glad you brought that up, because one of the funniest things about you QE zealots is that over the last two years you’ve gone from, “he’s a future heisman winner and no.1 overall pick” to now, after he nearly went undrafted, simply trying to argue that he wasn’t the main guy holding his teams back. and yet, at no point between “goat him” and “but bert auburn missed some kicks too!” have you guys said, “yeah i was wrong about QE.” that’s some mighty fine goal posts moving if i do say so myself.

Why? All those reasons listed are why this team was held back by our QB. I’m happy we had semi final appearances the last two years but this years team was good enough to win a title with a top 3 defense in program history. Back to back years we’ve set program records for draft picks with the most important position limiting this team. You could see it in how Sark had to call plays because of those limitations. You will see it this year when the offense looks completely different because of a QB who can push the ball downfield and has athleticism to avoid the rush and limit self sacks with better pocket awareness. But some growing pains are expected for a first year starter, the issue with Quinn is he regressed so much from year 2 to year 3.

Hi,

I came across your profile, and I really like your content and wanted to start a conversation with you regarding franchise opportunities. Have you put much thought into what it might be like to transition out of your current role?

Being at the heart of franchising for 14 years, l've seen so many people buy a franchise and never look back. The biggest takeaway is that they finally reclaimed their freedom after years of working for others.

Considering your captivating posts, I thought you'd be an interesting candidate. Would you want to learn a bit more?

Doesnt matter where QE got drafted, other than money...NFL is the ultimate meritocracy.  He went to a good situation.  Tua wont be in the league by Halloween, too oft injured.  If QE has a good camp , he'll be playing plenty and will get locked up with a nice contract in time.  In some ways getting drafted lower will water down expectations.  I think he will fine.  Im rooting for him.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is currently in the final year of his $3.7 million rookie contract. He is expected to sign a new, long-term contract extension, potentially making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. While the specifics of the new deal are still being negotiated, reports suggest it could be in the range of $58-68 million per year

Those are your opinions and don’t mean shit.

Here I will show you how it works….

Obviously Arch would have serious growing pains last season starting in place of Quinn.

Probably would have thrown a lot more picks than Quinn and probably would have cost us at least four or five games.

No way we play in the SEC Championship game with him as our starter.

See that sounds just as stupid as the shit you and derka are spewing.

Why don’t you two get a room and watch what Sark said about Quinn in that interview posted.

You know someone that knows what he is talking about.

The analytics aren’t opinions. The consensus of the scouts isn’t opinions. I don’t expect you to understand this given you have no clue what a men amongst boys was.

Analytics also do not tell the whole story.

Scouts have blown more QB picks in the draft than they have got right for years.

Please enlighten us on your man amongst boys definition since you are so bright.

Hint: Vince does not qualify for that title.

He has that title for high school and college but not the NFL.

I don’t need to make a case for Quinn.

He was a winner and played his ass off for Texas.

Your only argument is he kept us from winning a national championship which is about the dumbest fucking thing ever posted on Surly.

my god you are so emotional over all of this. every single post is so blubbery and dramatic. take a xanax or four. if this is how you handle people making fair criticisms of some teenage millionaire who had a mediocre college career then i don’t even want to know how you react when actual adversity comes your way.
