Adding new pitchers to the mix just increases the chances that one of them is going to break from the pressure. And new pitchers gives the opponent renewed hope - especially one who hasn't had a lot of offensive success. It was a dumb decision to go past anyone but Mac and Kavan. Hopefully we can make it not matter tonight or whenever this game gets played.

While we’re at it, can we ask that those three+ runs come sometime significantly earlier than the final at bat?

Yes please!  Make it 5-6 in the first!  My ticker would appreciate it

I don't like how much success in softball depends on one player on your team.

A lot of people are harping on this, but I think this is an over exaggeration. Some of the greatest pitchers of all time don't have a national championship including Cat, including Abbott (NCAA career leader in Wins, Strikeouts, Shutouts, Single season strikeouts, etc).

Canady is a once in a decade type of pitcher. Looking at career ERAs, the top 14 are all from the 80s, then it's 1 from the early 90s, then it's Cat, then it's a mixture of 80s, 90s, early 2000s until you get to Canady's current career ERA of 0.79. Canady has the lowest career ERA and only sub 1.0 career ERA since 2010, at least from what I could see on Wikipedia. If a once in a decade type of player shows up in any sport, they're are going to give any team they are on a shot at winning titles.

Careful with this kinda talk unless you live in the central time zone and watch every regular season game.

Doesn’t matter now. We ride or die with TK tonight but our offense better utilize those good ABs they had yesterday to string some hits together and score 3+ runs

I

This…we also need better defense between Mitchell and our 2nd baseman….Joley must be quicker to field slow dribblers coming her way….and not try to field grounders too far towards 2nd base…..they must pkay clean ball….this has really hurt us and needs fixing now.

"Mac for another inning or two"......  I'd damn sure bring Kavan in with a tie at 0-0 hoping we could pop one while she held them to zero.

Pacific time zone this year... Was central last year.

But I do tend to watch most of the regular season games or at least keep up through this thread if I can't.

I also rather enjoy posting Instagram links from everyone's favorite reserve pitcher, i.e. the only one that didn't pitch last night

The way we've been playing soccer on the right side of the IF, vs. what's been happening with Mia and (usually) Goode, I dread the thought of Tech trying to bunt or hit the ball into our trouble zone. I mean, it would be mighty temping to do so if TK pitches in a way that facilitates it. I trust we know that and will work to counter it, but that of course remains to be seen. Let's play great D all over the field and not have to worry about it.

Chances we start on time?

Per Accuweather, it looks like the game will start on time, but the potential bad weather could hit as early as 8:00 (49%) but shoots up to 69% starting around 9:00 p.m.

Would they move the game up to try and get it finished before the weather is expected to hit?

I'd like to hit into a few of these player's trouble zones if you know what I mean.

Probably can't because of TV. But I checked a couple of hours ago and saw the same thing -- the forecast gets worse as you get deeper into the night.

Something tells me I do.

While you're at it, please take a glove with you and at least knock down any grounders Tech hits that way.

I'm still not seeing such high chances of precipitation on the NWS forecast for OKC, but maybe I'm missing something. Hope it stays dry.

I mean, Mike's gambles all night almost worked out, where we could have brought TK in with a lead, or in the 6th/7th in a tie game.

-Mac did great, maybe should have gone a little longer (?)
-If Cam doesn't hit that batter with 2 strikes, Tech scores 0 that inning (and Mia's HR might be the game winner)
-Cit was/is so bad - can no longer throw strikes.  Bringing it Cit was the wrong move, IMO. She doesn't need to see another inning at Texas.

IMO, the biggest gamble that didn't work out was when we had runners on the corners with 2 outs after Stewie's single and Mike didn't pinch hit Hunter.  She and Citlaly can go play at UTSA next year.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.  Man, we just didn't get enough "breaks".  I kinda agree with the different look and saving TK, I wish it would have come up winner winner.  Everyone knows the stakes, everyone is amped up.  The ladies will fight 'em until hell freezes over, then fight 'em on the ice.  Go get 'em ladies.  We're behind ya' 100%.

I think MW pulled Mac too soon.  She was doing well.

Agree on Cam.  She gets the out instead of the HPB we are probably celebrating today.

the problem is Cam loaded the bases before the HBP, I get it, but after her first inning I pull her after the single probably and the double for sure.  you've got 2nd and 3rd with one out.  Kavan then has an open base if needed.

I just don't think Kavan is so fragile she can't go 3 or 4 innings and hopefully close it out.  Maybe White is thinking about potential extras with Kavan but that is just playing it too close and that means Canady is going extras too.

One thing this team does not do - give up

The 9 inning affair versus Tech - walked it off on an error in the 9th
The extra innings game versus Arizona, where they tied it in the 7th, and we won it in the 8th
Walking off Auburn after they went up 5-0
Coming back to win the series @ MSST after getting walked off in game 1
Walking off LSU in game 3 after falling behind 3-1 in the 6th, taking the lead in the bottom half, and falling behind again in the top half of the 7th
Falling behind 6-0 to OU and clawing back to lose 7-6 and the third game, fell behind 8-0 and clawed back to tie it in the 5th before losing 9-8
Wild Kentucky game 2 where we fell behind 4-0, tied it up at 4, fell behind 5-4 and won 7-6
Blowing the 6-1 lead to Ole Miss and walking them off in the 7th
Clemson game 2
Texas Tech game 1 when all hope seemed lost
Fighting back in the 7th last night to get within 1, with the tying run on 3rd

This team fights like hell.  Never forget that.

Surely that Tech OFer has a boyfriend - or large girlfriend - she's mad at.

Someone above mentioned wrist/hand fatigue because that's what generates the spin rate.

So you likely won't see a huge drop in velocity, but could potentially see less movement and less pinpoint control.

This is what I intend to believe is gonna happen. Plus 200 pitches later you know tendencies. She’s been bounced before hoping our gals can do it.

Nothing on the NCAA Softball twitter yet about game time being pushed back or even TBD.

Maybe the network is busy setting up details of covering the parade. Which had better be in Austin.

I hope in the 7th game of her career against Canady, Reese can figure it out

1-4, 2K in the extra inning loss at home
0-2, 2 K, 1 BB in the WCWS opener
1-3, 1K in the WCWS semifinals
0-3, 2K, 1 BB in the extra inning win at home
1-3 in the first champ game
0-3, 2K in the second champ game

3 hits in 18 ABs, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts

Woof.

Mac, Salmon and TK all show something different to the batters. TK with her rise and movement on all pitches, Mac with her drop ball, Salmon with her super slow changeup. I can see where Mike is at strategically: not allowing Tech to get too comfortable with any one pitcher or pitch. His mistake last night was letting Salmon go one extra inning, and then bringing in Citlaly in the 6th when it was just a 1 run game. Was really thinking the worst thing for us to do last night was to bring in TK too late, and for Tech to hit her and lose a bit of confidence coming into tonight. Well it happened.

Here's hoping we're getting more comfortable with Canady and her pitches are more flat.

More egregious than Hunter's lack of hitting is her effort running to fucking first base. Just couldn't believe twice she was loafing to first. To me she sits for that more than anything.

Excited for tonight.

She's had at least 2, maybe even 3 swings that were very very close foul ball home runs. She can make hard contact against her

Did it though?

TK faced 4 batters:

1) Sac Fly

2) ground ball to first, E-3

3) HBP

4) ground out to SS.

Of the 4 batters, she pitched well enough to get 3 of them out and none got hard contact. Didn't give up a base hit.

Yeah they didn’t hit her well again. A fly ball and 2 ground outs, oooooo lol

Yeah you’re right. Technically speaking no hits, but 2 runs scored after she came in which aren’t on her, but as a pitcher that’s not the result you want when you come in the game. The sac fly wasn’t the result she was going for when she came in.

The batter did exactly what Maloney failed to do - put a ball in the air to score a run. The error wasn’t on TK

Sure, but it was to shallow center. Really not hard contact at all.

She can't do anything about the error either.

The one thing I worry about... She's mentioned trusting her defense and allowing herself to pitch to contact. With all of the errors, does she start to try and push for strikeouts and start overthrowing, losing a bit of control? That's the only thing I'm worried about
