I agree it's a lot. But after the top 5-6 players, things get shaky for the US squad. Keegan's had a really good year.

He was a fantastic pick for captain at Bethpage Black. I feel good about the team's intensity and focus with him off the course, but even better with him on it.

the only problem I see is that you are telling guys to sit while you play, which mentally could weigh on you.  that said, as you say, we are very meh down the order and if he is still playing well in August he should play.  who are the assistants that could kind of be co-captain for him.

If I had to power rank options right now, knowing that the current top 6 are auto picks, my list would probably be:

1. Scheffler

2. Schauffle

3. DeChambeau

4. Morikawa (Captain's pick)

5. Justin Thomas

6. Keegan  (Captain's pick)

7. Russell Henley

8. Ben Griffin (Captain's pick)

9. JJ Spaun

Then it's just wildcards for last 3 picks: Sam Burns, Harris English, FInau, Horschel, Spieth (??)...yeesh. Really need some dudes to start playing better ASAP.

Meanwhile, Europe has these options right now outside of their top 6: Aberg, Hovland, Rahm, Rose, Fitzpatrick

Cantlay is in the wildcard group.

Horschel has a long term hip injury so he’s not playing this Ryder Cup. Spieth’s done nothing to warrant consideration and he’s hurt now too (who knows how serious).

I hate Cantlay and hope he gets left off.

What about Maverick?

Can he realistically though? Feels like a lot to be a player and the captain. They kind of fucked him over (again) by making him the captain.

Dumb question amnesty...why? What is so time consuming about being the captain.  Does he have to get the course early and rake all the bunkers? I mean, yeah, you have to set the lineups, but other than that, what the fuck is Bradley going to do to get Scheffler to play better?

Honestly, this is an excellent point. I guess it's just been engrained in me to expect the captains to bounce around the course like their hair's on fire to "rally the troops." But what are they actually doing? I imagine nothing that actually matters to the performance of professional golfers.

He hasn’t been able to keep it together for a full round when the course is biting back hard. Been that way since Goose passed away.

I heard he lost his nerve, turned in his divot tool.

the Miracle at Medinah is the only time in the last 20 years that the home side has lost so recent history says we'll win.  it hasn't been a great year for american golfers though and keegan picking himself after saying he wouldn't will open himself up for a lot of second guessing if we don't win.

5 foot putts are fucking hard.

From this video, it was more like 8 ft. Regardless he should've made it, or at least not smash his first putt 8 ft by. Also, Keegan had no problem making it.

9. JJ Spaun

I’m not 100% sold on JJ. Nothing personal, not at all, but the Trsvelers was not kind to him, and he was not in form as he has been. Maybe that’s the open hangover, so we’ll see how his next few go. His concentration and methodology for attacking Oakmont is certainly something to dive into for BPB.

I think the biggest thing right now is nobody has been really consistent over multiple weeks. It’s been a slight roller coaster with the ups and downs. Even Scottie isn’t stringing it together and is a hair off.

Not saying these guys aren’t good. They’re obviously the best in the world.

How is the other team looking? Similar issues, I’d imagine.

Lotta golf left to play, so we’ll have a better idea in 6-8 weeks. Or at the rate things are going, it might be better to say the options may look quite different. Some may be more obvious, some may be more muddied.

He actually left his first putt 8 feet short. And right behind Keegan's ball marker. Hard to imagine a worse result on a lag putt. A couple more inches, and he's getting the read from Bradley.

Coming up short of the green with a wedge in your hand from the middle of the fairway was the truly bad shot though. Didn't look like nerves either, just the wrong club.

Even had he not won the Open last week, carding a 66-63 over the weekend to finish in the top 15 is a pretty damn good week for a JJ Spaun level pro.

That's right. I amembered wrong.

Agreed. The pressure got it him. There was no conviction to any shot on that hole starting with the approach or much of anything starting with the 16th.

I'm not sold on JJ either, but at this moment he is in the top 6 and that's why I had him low on the list.

I think the Europe side is looking strong right now. Current rankings:

1. Rory

2. Fleetwood

3. Hatton

4. McIntyre

5. Lowry

6. Straka

7. Rasmus Hojgaard

8. Aberg

9. Rose

10. Hovland

11. Detry

12. Matt Wallace

Rahm will be a Captain's pick. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Neergaard-Petersen make the team. He played well at Oakmont and is considered a rising star in Europe.

Oh definitely a great weekend for him, not taking a damn thing away from him. Just cautiously optimistic for the moment.

I think he was being too conservative and playing not to lose down the last few holes. Pressure got to him and conservative turned into that approach on 18.

Same pressure/conservative approach left that putt short as well.

Oh damn. Looking better than I thought right now. Still, things change over 3 months.

i would take Koepka over any of these dudes.  i feel pretty confident he'll be on the team. he's built for Bethpage. won the 2019 PGA there. he plays US Open/PGA Championship courses as well as anybody in the world.  and Keegan said he'll pick LIV golfers as captain's picks if they deserve it.

i'm sold on Spaun for alternate shot.  he hits fairways and can putt. let him play those two sessions for sure.

Koepka slipped my mind. Totally agree he makes the team assuming he's back in form.

If Keegan is fully open to LIV players, maybe Patrick Reed gets a look too.

actually his putting has been a huge problem for him.  he was usually ranked 100+ in putting, even last year.

that said he has been above average this year.  hopefully it keeps going because he is good at everything else and really good at approach.

Scottie, Xander, Morikawa, Bryson, JT, Spaun, Koepka, Henley, Koepka, Griffin, Maverick, then Keegan if he wants to play or a late season “hot hand” (Cam Young?) would make a pretty formidable squad with a good mix of vets and young guys.

For more important questions, when is the last time Srixon had back to back winners on the PGA, including a major no less?

Without question, Zxi7s were the best feeling irons that I demoed iron shopping the past couple of months. (I didn't try out any pure blades or musclebacks because who the fuck am I kidding?) Almost talked myself into them but had a come to Jesus meeting with myself about the status of my golf game.

Can definitely see why they're so popular on tour though, even with unsigned guys. The workability and feel of a player's cavity back with some actual, legit forgiveness the rare times they drift 3mm from center. I just needed forgiveness from the hosel to the toe.
