There is no way the Astros resign Keuchel the money he is going to want.  The need to trade him and some others like Giles and Sipp for a decent closer.

At some point, there needs to be a serious talk with Jake, and serious decisions need to be made. The Red Sox did it with Ramirez.

I'd be surprised if he's still employed by the Astros at the all star break.

Nevermind, read that wrong.

No. You were right.

He was never coming back. Just costing him money and us wins.

That’s not how this works

Who is going to take Keuchel in the last year of his contract?  Another contender.

Perhaps they need a new washing machine..

Every other year Keuchel is nails. This is not that year.

Ehhhh...He was great in '15. He hasn't been nearly that good since. He was going pretty well last year but only pitched about 2/3 of a season.

He will be elsewhere in 2019.

This is starting to get pretty frustrating. And I might be the biggest sunshine pumper around these parts.

I still think we will win the division fairly comfortably, but that might speak more about my lack of faith  in the Mariners and Angels than really feeling like we will win 100+.

We are about to go on a run.  We play a lot of bad teams coming up.  They need to move Keuchel to 5 spot.

Good hopefully won't see Jake get many more starts

The Astros have mastered grounding into a double play, so they can stop practicing that.

what benefit would the team get by changing Keuchel’s spot in the rotation order?

peacock / mchugh /

I don't know how Keuchel would react to a move to the bullpen.

The more likely move would be for him to feel a little "tweak" and go on the 10 day DL, followed by a brief rehab stint in Corpus.

I thought I read once that keuchel has a very long warm up routine, not bullpen friendly

Well, he may need to adjust or learn a new routine.

Why do we have to cater to his feelings? He's not coming back next year and, and between him, McHugh, and peacock, that number 5 is interchangeable.

Jesus, Keuchel.

Just tip your cap to Seager and shut up. If can’t do that, at least stop at speculating you’re tipping your pitches. Don’t throw Stassi under the bus too.

Meanwhile in Fresno:

Josh James has 13 Ks through 7... unfortunately his offense has 0 hits.

Edit:

Reverse jinx works again.

Broken up with 1 out on the bottom of the 7th

I'm ready for Keuchel to be gone. Hopefully, it'll be for more than a compensatory pick.

Should be Jake instead going down instead of JD

Keuchel is such a bitch. He's not as good as he thinks he is. He whined at the trade deadline last year. His "we're not the Cubs" bullshit.

He should really learn to shut the fuck up.

He's right. Feels more like 0-11 to me.

He wouldn't be matched up against opposing teams #1 or #2. He was matched up against Seattle's best tonight.

Or maybe shake things up by shaving his beard and see how he pitches.

If he got rid of the beard, we might discover he's actually Rick Ankiel.

Keuchel has always been a little bit of a douchebag.  Sucks for him though that his contract year also happens to be around the apex of the fly ball revolution, which was designed to kill pitchers like him.

Altuve currently has an ISO of .123. (ISO = SLG-AVG.)

The last season he finished with an ISO this low was 2014 (.112). That year, he struck out in 7.5% of his PAs. He is currently striking out in 15% of his PAs.

His K% was up the last 3 years compared to 2014 - but so was the ISO (power): .146, .194, .202.

So...he's striking out at a career-high rate while also losing the power gains he made since 2014. Not a good combo.

Looking more closely - his line drive % is a career high and ground ball % is at a career low. He's hitting more balls to CF than normal and his HR/FB is down from recent year. So...maybe it's just a matter of him hitting more balls to CF that aren't going out of the park and it will even out over the next few months.

At this point in the season with off days, injuries, etc. does anyone really have their original starting rotation in the same spots?

Trade his ass... package deal with Keuchel.

I kid before any of you no humor having people take it seriously.

No.  Rotations won't be matched up like that again until after the all-star break.
