They are just mailing this game in.

These games are the kind that come back to bite you in the ass in September.

Crummy way to limp into the break, but this team is just going to get better with a bit of rest.   Hard to stay down on these guys while they are 16 games over with a five game lead at the break.

what a horrible home stand

Reversion to the mean, IMO. This patched-together MASH unit of a roster where the bottom 4 spots of our lineup is often AAAA scrubs is not nearly as good as the record indicated from mid-June to 7/6, and we're not as bad as we looked at home this week.

Couple of thoughts, some which come from being there in person today:

1. Brown is gassed. HIs 2 worst starts of the year came in the past week. He's laboring and leaving pitches up in the zone, leading to lots of balls, long ABs, and 25+ pitch innings.  For fucks sake, he struggled against their 8 and 9 hitters that are both deeply sub-Mendoza.

2. It's a long season and every team has shitty stretches. We're in one now, and it's fairly team-wide. Lot of guys that were hot the past month/week have come back down to earth. Aside from Brown, Hader has faltered twice in a row, Cam's on a multi-game hitless streak, Walker has Abreu's bat speed again...etc.

3. Based on limited sample size, but also eye test: Short might actually be a worthwhile utility piece that can be a replacement-level 0-1 WAR guy on an MLB roster.  Hummel and Trammell are never-was dreck.

4. We need rest and recovery like the desert needs rain. And we better be working on at least 1-2 trades before the end of the month. We need a LHB somewhere in the lineup and another starting pitcher.

Guys, Walker has some valid concerns about the batter's eye

Apparently in every park but maybe Colorado or LA, because he's sucked in all of them

I know we open with our closest division competition but I’m ok with Walter, Gordon and LMJ to give Brown and Framber an extra couple of days.
or push LMJ to the back of the rotation and AZ to maximize his road starts through late august

A HS shortstop

He's projected to be a 3B from what I've read just now.  He's hit 95 on the mound, so he has a good arm.

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 65 | Run: 45 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

There have been nine high school hitters to be drafted in the first round and signed out of the state of Washington in the history of the Draft, the best of which came in 2019 in the form of Corbin Carroll. Long known for his bat, Neyens' increase in power has helped him make the jump to a top-level prospect, one who was extremely busy on the summer showcase circuit, playing in events including MLB's High School All-American Game and the Area Code Games, though questions about his hit tool has dampened some enthusiasm.

Neyens has long been seen by area scouts as a potentially elite hitter from the left side of the plate with an outstanding approach. He made some adjustments to his setup and swing, adding leverage and starting to show off at least plus raw power and the ability to not only get to it, but to do so to all fields. There was some concern about the increase in his swing-and-miss rate as the summer progressed, though some scouts who know him well think he was gassed after playing what one evaluator estimated was well over 100 games during the summer. Those concerns resurfaced with some lackluster showings at the plate this spring at times.

While he's not a runner, the 6-foot-4 Neyens is athletic with a solid chance to stick at third despite his size. The Oregon State recruit's arm certainly plays from the hot corner, showing the ability to fire fastballs up to 95 mph from the mound, leading to comparisons as a left-handed-hitting version of Austin Riley.

Baseball draft is such a crap shoot. Teams are gonna pay first rounders millions of dollars to be Taylor Trammell or Brendan Rogers. Go broke in the real world with that kind of return on investments

I was stuck listening to the Rangers radio broadcast on my way home today. They specifically mentioned that Brown’s fastball velocity was down 3/4 mph from the first inning. Hopefully, he just needs rest.

Note to Jim: stop signing olds.

While also letting guys still in their prime walk because there will be a few years of decline at the end
