IOS?

26.0.1

It had been doing this for months prior to most recent updates (see my last post in this thread). And to be clear, I don’t click on Twitter links. They somehow still take over the back function

I wouldn't go so far to say months. But I to have seen this. iOS 26, Chrome.

I see it more when I leave a page with a tweet open and close the app.

I think the fans are broken. I see complaint posts on coaching on every page/thread.

I'll try turning it off and turning it back on again.

Is the action bar supposed to be floating in the middle of the page now?  By action bar I mean the strip that has “forums, unread notifications and messages” icons.  On iOS 26.0.1.  Happens in both chrome and safari.  In chrome it stays mostly at bottom of page but in safari it floats to middle of screen.

that's a cached glitch. Try emptying site data and reloading or switching themes it should take care of it.

Theme change and reload fixed it.

I've just never had this happen to me I'll try to look after this weekend.

When you get a chance I have a reproducer. iOS 26, Chrome:

Open a page with an embedded tweet:

The tweet must load on the page.

IMG_3129.thumb.png.0267e36da867148944c19da6696357b2.png

Close the browser with that page open.

Reopen the browser a you will get a random floated tweet.

I hated the news Safari design in iOS 26, so I changed the Safari settings to something similar to the old setup, see below.

However, it appears to have created a really screwed up interface when trying to post on Surly. See below. Anyway to fix this? It grays out the posting area

@immamac

I’m seeing exactly what the good Captain is seeing. Super annoying as it forces you to go all the way back to the forum and you lose progress in the thread. Chrome has a stupid propensity to refresh the page upon coming back. Is that just me? I’ve looked for a way to turn that off on mobile but can’t find it.

I don't think this is surlyhorns I think it's twitter and chrome. I can try to find something about it, but I think this is just twitter embeds being aggressively shitty.

not sure if it’s the only reason why this happens but if the ig post is restricted for some reason it won’t embed.  I see it a lot when I post horrible awful nsfw shit in that thread.  the posts are restricted due to offensive content and so they don’t embed.  other than that I haven’t noticed it.

Switched video ad providers today. Content will be mostly OTF with some surly stuff mixed in.

Sorry if there was some site wonkyness for a few minutes the player was doing unintentional things that I fixed. Should be good now and overall better.

Also if you see a DHS ad I  having those removed. New provider have to ban ads for.

just dropped in to say I’m about to quit reading the Ukraine thread because I can’t get through a page without going to Twitter platform and it’s too frustrating to visit the same thread six times before I can get to the end of the page.

If the problem is aggressive Twitter embedding, maybe we could ask everybody to just post screenshots, and anyone that desperate to see the original article in X can find the particular post in the app

ios18 is current theme.

Safari?

Lock it down. Turn off trackers, etc. Once you do, twitter stuff looks like this:

IMG_3584.thumb.jpeg.22779f37ac10192f6f39d1d8e981e29b.jpeg

Right click on the date and open in new tab if it’s something you want to see.

Doing that and all the weird shit people have been mentioning will stop.

I've focused mainly on posting from Reddit, as it allows videos to be played while embedded on Surly without requiring a jump to their site. There's also the advantage that they have a couple of dedicated subreddits for the conflict, so you get relevant content, as well as one that focuses on Ukraine in general. By checking these, you probably get 95% of the same stuff that's posted on Xitter without giving clicks to Elon's Nazi hellsite and without all the trolls. They're both pretty well moderated.

My preferred subs for info are:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/

I made a change - let me know if it helps. I had a plugin to lazy load embeds that are iframed in like twitter I removed that and maybe it'll help.
