Should be a big day for come to Jesus meetings with the players. Hope no one is too hungover for the negotiations.

I will not worry about the annual “Will Wingo still sign/stay with Texas?” drama anymore. I’m totally ambivalent to either outcome. Clark balling out makes much more sanguine about the running back room this morning. We have Arch who can carry the team by himself. If we just figure out the interior of the line we will be so much better.

I hope we keep as many of the young DBs as possible. Everyone else whatever quite honestly.

Christian Clark has one decent game and suddenly we don’t need a RB? I don’t want to hear about how we’re having to convert someone to RB in 2026.

Who is saying that?

No one. A bell cow like Baugh + Clark would make a lot of people feel better. And suddenly we don’t need to find 2 RBs in the portal, just 1

I would hope most of those conversations have already happened before the prestigious Citrus Bowl.

Lol yeah, our regular season ended the day after Thanksgiving. Those convos have happened for the most part.

People think Miami but they have Fletcher and Pringle coming back so… why?

Let’s hope we don’t have to do that. We need to build around him and make his job easy AF

Isn’t Fletcher eligible for the draft?? At Least that’s what the commentators kept saying last night

Do not contact doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve picked a destination. It also means ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you.’

That place was a beating in the game thread yesterday. At one point greenspoint said Biff was kicking Sarks ass and we were winning.

That's sage dating advice.

Obviously not. But for me it’s find just one true RB and thanks to Clark just one. Fix the interior of the line then I am not losing sleep over the receiver position. It will be what it will be whether that’s Wingo or somebody else. This roster is built around Arch now.

We need two NFL caliber RBs and two NFL caliber WRs. Clark has had 1 good game against a Michigan team with no coach. I don’t care to put our eggs in his basket. If we are serious about making a run in Arch’s last year, we need to get 2 stud RBs. We’ve done it before with Bijan/Rojo, Brooks/Blue. We also need two stud WRs like we had in Worthy/Mitchell and Bond/Golden. If they roll into next year with just 1 RB and Wingo and company, you can pencil in 2-3 losses again.

To add to this it’s do not contact the player personally. However their agent is fair game.

I think we're ok now with one portal RB, although we'll still be missing a guy who can score from anywhere on the field a la Blue/Keilan Robinson.

How is getting a portal back like Baugh or Isaac Brown putting all our eggs in Clark's basket? I think we all saw enough to be comfortable with Clark as our #2 back next year, that would have been Wisner if he wasn't a dummy.

We are also bringing in Cooper, who is going to play.

We’re not okay with portal Rb at all. If a RB goes down we’re right back where we started.

This is where I am. Get a bell cow, Clark is #2, and Cooper can get spot play to develop as needed. Use the resources in other places.

Cool. 2.2 for Coleman, 1.2 for Baugh, 2M for the 3 IOL total, 1M for a safety and 750k for a linebacker and you have the best players at all those positions in the portal. Sign pluggers everywhere else you need a body and you just imported 7 draft picks, have talent everywhere you need it and you are good.

We have lots of money coming off the books with Wisner, Moore, Hill, manny, and a couple other guys. Arch makes a ton in real NIL and apparently isn’t greedy. This should be an all in year. If you have to take money from everyone else that doesn’t project for our top 32 players do it now and worry about 27 in 27. Need to win the title this year.

I know those numbers aren’t exact but they are likely close.

And if bell cow or Clark goes down, then what? Rely on true freshmen?

The other key need is another big chungus DL ala Cole Brevard. More than a plugger, less than a superstar.

Sure. But not top of the chart and that’s not breaking the bank.

Feels like 10M ought to make us all happy. If Wingo goes I know he’s got a big price tag so if you get Coleman you use his money to sign 2 additional Mosley types.

If 10M is a problem then strip off all the guys at 2nd string making anything of importance and get a bunch of 5th year dudes from the sun belt. Tell them you will pay them in pussy. Pussy for life if they win it all.

What if arch goes down? At a certain point you just need to trust your stars are going to stay healthy or it’s not your year. You can’t be all conference at every position on the two deep.

3 minutes ago, BurntOrange&White said:

Well at some point you have to play the players you have on your team as backups. If we sign Baugh and both he and Clark are injured at the same time, then yeah it would be Cooper and Simon. I'm totally fine with that being our four-deep at RB.

Its Christmas Eve for the transfer portal

Landing an elite RB1 and cheaper RB2 to push Clark down a peg to RB3 would be ideal, we'll see if Texas can swing it

Simon who didn’t get a snap last night and a guy who was moved to RB a month ago got playing time over him? Basing Clark off one game is also stupid as fuck. If we don’t get two RBs that’s flat out negligent

You’re being ridiculously flippant to a nauseating level about roster management. It’s not productive and it’s distracting. We should all give major fucks about talent and depth across all positions.

1 hour ago, HenryJames said:

I said this earlier in the thread but, Texas just gave Baxter a non-offer and wished him well in large part because he didn’t know the difference between hurt and injured. Brown is the same guy. He feasted for two seasons against mostly shit teams and then pulled himself out of multiple games in both seasons. He missed like 4-5 games this year over injuries that the coaches clearly, through their set-up interviews with the announcers calling their games each weekend, were frustrated by it. When he did play, he often made sure he was pulled after a hard tackle. Unless he was playing BC or Eastern Kentucky, then he was a fucking beast.

I assume either the Veith guy is just full of shit or that Texas will figure out that Brown is more of the same from what they just sent packing. There are way better options that will be available if “availability” is an ability that the staff values.

Texas will have Cooper, Clark, Terry and at least one stud from the portal, plus the white dude from CenTex for practice fodder. The idea that Texas will sign two NFL RBs in one portal cycle is pretty wishful. RB is not a position where guys are going to happily look at signing up for one season to vault them into the league and yet risk being RB2 after the spring. Jadyn Ott is a cautionary tale that every agent will be telling their guys. It’s more like QB in that regard than WR or Edge or Safety. I expect a 2nd RB from the portal to be a scheme fit and depth piece more than a guy on the verge of being drafted.

Yes, that Simon. The guy I'm talking about being fourth or fifth string.

Also, "basing Clark off of one game" would be stupid as fuck, if anyone was talking about not bringing in any RBs now, which no one is doing.

So why are you insisting we roll with him as RB2? What's your justification for that? Because it certainly wasn't anything he had done during the regular season this year.

Not a huge fan of Brown either, but Bobby seems convinced that he's part of Texas' solution at RB.

His numbers are great though, and we won't need him to bell cow like Louisville did.

If we could get him and Baugh while still fixing the IOL, I'm more than down with that.

We also clearly need WR help/depth.

Edited by Atticus

I'm not insisting on anything. I'm saying I'm fine with a three deep of Legit Portal Badass, Clark, and Cooper at the top of the depth chart. Cooper may be getting 10 carries a game by October, I don't know.

I love Bobby as a lead voice covering Texas, but I don’t always agree with him.

I don’t think he, or you apparently, have watched much Louisville this year. For one, they didn’t need Brown to be a bell cow. They just needed him to be reliable. They had another top notch RB1 type in Duke something, Watson, maybe, and a solid younger 3rd string guy as well.

If you look beneath the surface at his weekly performance, Brown had a big game against Miami in which everyone seems to want to draw their conclusions, and then he feasted on junk food otherwise. He missed or played poorly against any other defense that could fog a mirror and did the same shit in 2024. I think the guy is a pussy and paper tiger.

Nahlin posted this earlier re: Baugh/Brown:

If Jadan Baugh doesn't enter the portal I think it's incredibly likely Texas will land Louisville's Isaac Brown.

If Baugh does enter the portal, Texas is the heavy favorite over Ohio State and Georgia.

If both are available, I have not heard that Baugh would be preferred over Brown. Sark both likes his explosive players who create short drives (Brown) and his bigger backs (Baugh) to build the play-action identity off of.

However, we know Sark hired Jabbar Juluke and I'm sure his new RB coach has a preference.

Doesn’t sound like Texas has any interest in Caleb Hawkins. I haven’t heard his name mentioned by any of the so called insiders
