I'll say this..... we young.  Need a couple of vets in UFA to round out this team.

Durant would really make an impact.

What's that? Houston got him? And gave up fucking nothing?

I was hoping for Sorber, and he goes to OKC. Of course! Carter Bryant couldn't even get minutes on his college team. Who the hell is going to play center on this team outside of Victor? I guess they're going to trade for someone, because there aren't a lot of good centers available in free agency.

He’s got plenty of minutes at the end of the season. The video above does a great job of explaining how he got more playing time, what he’s good at, and where he needs improvement. Sorber would’ve been my pick too, but they also need wing help just as much as they need a center. Kid can play defense.

Not too worried about the draft. If we were able to pick up a C, we'd still be in dire need of a 3 and D wing, as we have been for 2-3 years. We got one and now we need a C. Oh well. We'll figure it out. And we make the playoffs without one this year. If we "complete" our team next year then we are on schedule.

Without better players at the 4 and 5 this team will still be pretty bad next year. I hope we are making a big trade this off season.

They need some more size, for sure. I haven't looked at their cap, but it's at least worth taking a run at Al Horford and see if they can overpay him to ply him out of Boston. I know he's a 1000 years old, but he'd be exactly what the doctor ordered on and off the court. Yabusele from Philly would be a nice fit, too.

I was going to post about how much I don’t want Horford, but he’s probably going to be a Laker anyway. I suppose he’d be better than whatever the fuck they trotted out there last season. Zach, Charles, and Bismack. Gross.

Can we watch them play together first?

If you can't average more than 6 points your only college season...... you should be pretty thrilled to be a lottery pick at all.  He'll live in Austin most of the season, he's a major project.

There are layers of risk involved with allocating 1st round money on a player that will stay in Austin that much

It is what it is at this point, but excluding wemby and Harper their draft acumen over the last 7 to 8 years doesn't exactly thrill me.  Lots of misses there.

Fingers crossed

Drafting bigs is always a gamble because so many simply can't adjust to the NBA. Much smarter to sign a proven commodity than trying to develop a rookie.

This. Get a big like Lopez or Kornet and this team can make the playoffs

Huge misses with Derrick White, Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and oh yeah rookie of the year Stephon Castle

They traded white

Keldon while a great guy and teammate should have been traded when he had high value.  He's not good.

Vassell and Sochan jury still out.  Potential there.  Breakout time next year or never for Sochan for sure.

I did not mean to include castle my bad.  He's obviously really good.

You mean he was a valuable player another team wanted and was willing to give up assets for? Sounds like a draft win

Hindsight.  He wasn't as good as he ended up at the time we traded him.

Also dare to look back one more year.  Primo?  Yeah great one.

Also they passed on Halliburton to pick vassell.   Not great bob.

What is this revisionist history shit? White was a really good player for the Spurs as evidenced by the return they got for him. He became a better three point shooter within their three heavy offense but he didn’t become a better player, he’s the same player he’s always been, a badass. He was surrounded by better talent in Boston, but was too good for the Spurs to do the one thing they needed to do, tank. And it worked, the rare trade where both teams are extremely happy with the return.

Vassell, Keldon, and Sochan all good players who have lived up to their draft picks. Vassell’s crime is that he isn’t Halliburton, and Sochan is still a work in progress. Keldon is playing way above where he was picked. There are a lot of shitty picks the Spurs have made,  not sure why you’re crapping on the ones with actual return.

Last 10 years, they've been above average or decently good.  Murray at 29 is White at 29 were pretty good to great draft picks, but then.... Lonnie, Luka (that one is huge fail), Keldon, Vassell, Tre Jones (pretty good for 2nd rounder), Primo and Weiskamp (empty year when you suck), Sochan, Branham and Wesley (could still turn around but right now, not good), before turning it around with Wemby, Castle, and now Harper.  Part of the issue was Pop not wanting to accept where the team was and play for draft status so we didn't get high lottery picks until the last 3 years.  We've hit when in the top 5, as you should, but outside of the top 10, we have a pretty checkered record.  A generational talent like Wemby can clean up a lot resumes, but he has to stay healthy.  We've done much better in acquiring draft picks through trades.

I was hoping we'd trade back in the bottom of the first and take the Michigan kid, Wolf.  He has a really interesting skill set and if he ends up developing a consistently good 3, he could be a good big for a decade along with being an elite passer at the position.  Great passers out of the post are hard to come by and he has just enough post game to stick.  I think he was way underdrafted if he can get that 3 up to 37+% eventually.

Yessss!! I was looking at him to, I didn’t watch much college basketball outside of Texas and the tourney but his highlights were impressive

One of Lopez, Capela or Kornet should be available to fill that back-up role and hopefully be enough to get over the playoff hump. Hell I wouldn't even be upset with a play-in appearance with the core being young and getting their feet wet. Sort of like the 2015 Astros.

A Freshman who played sparingly isn't going to immediately address that need. No doubt that Bryant has athletic ability, but he's going to develop for 2-3 years before he has any kind of impact on the team. I just don't understand where the Spurs are going. They're young every year the last 5 years. They picked Castle 4th last season and picked up Fox in a trade. They picked another Guard 2nd this season who hasn't displayed much shooting ability. Is Vassell going to be the odd man out at a crowded position and traded off?
