Haven't seen a replay but it looked to us like Wingo wasn't even looking for the ball. Arch probably threw it a little too hard too but seemed catchable from my live viewing.

This is wrong. Really really wrong.

Nah. I’m telling you- we are fine this was all on 16 being a moron. I bet it doesn’t happen again.

Hmmm well, Washington, Georgia 1 and 2 and OSU 1 and 2 would beg to differ. Last I checked the common denominator in ALL of those is Sark.

Take away Manning's 13 yd run for a first down and he averaged about 2 ypc. Not exactly the Vince Young I had in mind. Sark looking like the Quarterback Supergluer

Why would you take away the 13 yarder?  If you took away something good he wouldn't be very good?

He looked like ass today but if you were expecting Vince Young that's on you. Unless you meant the Vince Young that got shut out by OU early in his career.

So a 12 year old with College football 26 can call a better game.  Can we agree on that?

We can agree that there are 12 years old that would have played a better game at QB.

If your QB is best at running the ball and is bad at throwing the ball short/intermediate, why would you do the latter instead of the former? Why recruit that player in the first place?

Tell me again how effective it was to turn arch?

Wingo looked late, but it didn't matter because it looked like the ball bounced off his lower leg. Just a horrific throw.

No no no, we definitely called the plays to his strengths. He’s a power runner don’t you know.

Honestly….Ewers wins this game by double digits.

Lulz. When did Ewers ever do that against a team of equal or better caliber? He had the opportunity to do it against Georgia twice last year. Washington, OSU. Failed in all 4 games. And with way better talent than today. Imagine Ewers with the skillset of today, brutal.

Well, it certainly seemed that Arch generally had a cleaner pocket than Ewers against UGa and OSU last year and the run game was a bit more effective, which are related things, most likely.  And Ewers with a clean pocket could hit a whole lot of the throws Arch missed.  And get the running and passing game going, and that's when Sark shines.

He had no strengths today. He couldn't execute anything consistently. Your continued insistence that we should call to his non-existent strengths (for today) is stupefying.

Only two serious questions:  1. On fourth and goal at the one, if the QB comes to the line and there are two men on the center, is the QB supposed to check out of the sneak or not?  Had he done that and run right, I think he could have gotten into the end zone.  Whole different ballgame.

2. Arch looked so uncomfortable in the first half, it kind of reminded me of Vince his 1st year, true freshman year, I think.

Is this a case of first game of season jitters or does the coaching staff need to "Let Arch be Arch", just like our QB problems were solved 20-21 years ago by "Let Vince be Vince"?

And of course like everybody else I am sick of the opposing team being so perfect that they have 0 yards of penalties through 3 quarters, and like somebody said, "here's the obligatory holding call after the game is done" thing to make the yardage look close.

The bright side is we have a kick ass defense and a kick ass punter.  Easily best punter since Dickson, and since I consider myself an expert on the best Texas D ever, the 1983 D, I would say this D is right up there.  If this Texas D had stopped OhioState on fourth down, it could easily be considered top 3 best D ever, up there with the 1981 and 1983 D, assuming this D continues to play this well throughout the season.

Without seeing other teams play, my guess is one loss, maybe two more, and a top 12 rating

Yeah, our oline played much better than I expected. That's part of why I'm so disappointed in Arch's performance. He wasn't having to run for his life. He wasn't being rushed on his throws. He just fucking couldn't hit any of them. It looks like once he decided to throw, he rushed throw the motion rather than just focus on making a clean throw. That's where all that side arm shit came from.

Posted

ESPN just showed at stat that Arch was off target on 37% of his throws, the worst single-game percent for any Texas QB in 10 years.

So yeah, this loss is probably more on Arch than Sark. That being said, I have more confidence in Arch improving than Sark. By the end of the year I don't think he'll be missing these throws. Everyone needs to remember this was his third start ever, first on the road, in Columbus against an elite D.

We have no clue how effective he could have been running outside the tackles or attacking the sidelines because we rarely (never) did either. That’s literally the entire point here. We persisted with things that did not work and we know he struggles with. Instead of making adjustments to the natural skill set of the players on the field we continued to do the same stupid shit.

The handful of times we did adjust we drove the ball into the red zone.

Arch fucking sucked. No shit. Why did we continue doing all the things he sucked at for 4 straight quarters instead of making any adjustments? You seem to want to make this like I’m arguing that arch is Superman. I’m not. I’m arguing that continuing to do things that don’t work is stupid. And Sark has been that way his entire career.

No one should commit seppuku after today’s result.   First game of the season.  Against the defending national champ who is still a consensus top 5 team.  At their house.  Pressure of first ever preseason #1 ranking.

There was a serious headwind to fight against today and we lost by 7 with two failed red zone series.

Sucks, but shit happens.  Go win the rest of them.

Deeply troubled with Manning’s performance. His mechanics look awful and he missed throws we see connect in Bowie/Crockett games.

Looked like Garrett Gilbert out there. Especially overthrowing which caused GGs passes to bounce low.

I’d been happier with a 4 pick game where the ball was at least well thrown.

This is a Yikes.

You do know Ewers isn't coming back, right?

Also, last I checked Ewers lost to OSU by 14 and turned the ball over in the redzone.

For the record, I'm confident if VY was playing we would have blow OSU out today.

Again, your insistence that something else must have worked better despite all the evidence that he couldn't even do the very simplest things you expect a QB to do is just befuddling. I'm all for playing to the strengths of a player. I don't think that was the problem today. I think the problem was a player that we hope will be very good was in fact very, very very very very very bad.

I love how all the talking heads are showing how Ohio State's defense was playing deep not giving Manning anything but idiots here saying they were playing their safeties up to stop the run. We didn't average 4.5 because we have road graders up front.

He didn’t suck running the ball. He didn’t suck attacking the deep sideline. Could he have sucked at those? Probably. But we don’t know that because we rarely tried them. When he did run outside the tackles he was successful. When he did throw deep up the sideline he was successful. It’s a shame we only saw those a couple times and instead we watched our offense try the same intermediate and qb draw/power over and over.

Im simply saying we should try. And not trying is on Sark.

If arch got 1 game like utep or north texas or rice to settle in before the Ohio st game I believe he would have looked way more relaxed. If he looks like this at Florida in 4 weeks then we have a problem. I don’t think he will.

none of that was arch. The Oline gave him time and stats showed the running game was decent. NONE of that is arch.

The game was decided with Arch never being comfortable at all. His throws seemed like" oh shit he's open, I got to throw it now” and he wasn't set. Then it sailed or was short. His mechanics were just straight ass. I think Sark needed to slow it down for him but everything was seemed super vanilla on watching it live. I liked the running game. Littleton is going to be a baller. Some silly penalties at sucky times. I can give today a mulligan and get into a groove the next weeks.
