Is that trying to extract drops?  ESPN has 17-30, but 11-30 is what it felt like.

Aaand, I don't know how you get 37% from either 11 or 17 of 30.

I read it as 11 of his 30 attempted passes were off the targeted receiver. That comes out to 36.666%

BECAUSE HE SUCKED AT EVERYHTING (for today)!

Again, your insistence that something else must have worked better despite all the evidence that he couldn't even do the very simplest things you expect a QB to do is just befuddling. I'm all for playing to the strengths of a player. I don't think that was the problem today. I think the problem was a player that we hope will be very good was in fact very, very very very very very bad.

Bingo.. we have a winner!   I have no clue what the retards think would have changed the outcome

I assume it is just when the throw wasn't catchable by the intended receiver. He had other incompletions that were technically catchable but either defended or dropped (I use dropped loosely as it is really more that the receiver didn't make an incredible catch).  I definitely believe he had 11 throws that weren't catchable by the receiver. I also think he had another 5 or 6 that were caught, but off target enough to make the play much less effective (e.g., the caught little bubble screen that lost yardage).

ESPN is reaching here. "Off Target %" is a real obscure stat to pull out. And only over the last 10 years huh?

So going 19/30 (63%) on target (so completions + drops) is worse than some of these stinkers in the last 10 years? Unfortunate;y I don't have drop rates on some of these beauties...

  • Tyrone Swoopes (2015-2016): November 26, 2015 vs. Texas Tech – 9/18 (50.0%), 52 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 63.2 rating.
  • Jerrod Heard (2015-2017): October 3, 2015 @ TCU – 8/20 (40.0%), 48 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, 60.2 rating.
  • Shane Buechele (2016-2018): November 25, 2016 vs. TCU – 16/39 (41.0%), 218 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 82.9 rating.
  • Sam Ehlinger (2017-2020): November 24, 2017 vs. Texas Tech – 26/47 (55.3%), 239 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, 96.5 rating.
  • Casey Thompson (2018-2021): November 20, 2021 @ West Virginia – 4/14 (28.6%), 29 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 31.7 rating.
  • Hudson Card (2020-2022): September 11, 2021 @ Arkansas – 8/15 (53.3%), 61 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, 87.5 rating.
  • Quinn Ewers (2022-2024): November 12, 2022 vs. TCU – 17/39 (43.6%), 171 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 75.3 rating.

Fucking Sark should have called the accurate throw plays

Make excuses but that garbage QB sneak at the goal line call was all Sark. If that is all Sark has in his play book for 4th and goal then please hire any Texas high school coach who would have called a better play.

11/30 =0.367…?

it’s saying only 11 completions on target. At least that’s how I read it.

You can’t just “go away” from basic short and intermediate throws against a defense like that and expect success. Even if he was throwing them poorly.

Tell me once again how many he actually completed

Maybe and I’m not a sark defender but the 1-2 punch of arch madness and sark stupidity was pretty impressive today.

You can if you can run the ball effectively. There’s literally an entire offensive system predicated on that.

Was none of it Sark either?

You aren’t reading my posts this was 100% on sark and arch. I was responding to the question what was positive. Pass pro was ok and the run game was decent. Pass pro partly because I don’t think they blitzed much.

Of course we were. Tom Brady hits Wingo crossing wide open for a probably touch down to tie the game. Tom Brady hits Moore on the first play for a huge explosive. Tom Brady Doesn't underthrow Wingo by 10 yards causing an INT. The game plan was good enough to win. The execution by one player was not.

Mrs Mo has been out of town and is flying in tonight, so I can't even get drunk and forget about this game since I have to go pick her up. At least she's bringing me 2 really nice bourbons.

If you think the entire football board turning into the Ewers thread is a positive thing and enjoyable, well, that's another great take.

And just think we only lost 14-7. If it was 35-7 I would be way more worried.

Agreed. They both sucked.

I tend to hold the head coach at least partially accountable for the performance of a QB.

100% especially when the coach says he’s ready and has faced this pressure all his life blah blah. Sark looked like a fucking idiot and a middle manager that was totally unprepared in a presentation to the board. Just baboon level performance.

They were playing their safeties deep, that's why their all world safety wasn't making plays, it's also why we ran for 4.5 average, nothing we did on offense was remotely impressive.

Sark can't throw the ball for him. This wasn't a loss because, for instance, Ohio State blitzed a shit ton and collapsed the pocket. There was generally a very good pocket for Arch to throw from. This wasn't a loss because we couldn't run the ball. We actually ran quite effectively. This wasn't a loss because we didn't call shots to open receivers. We did. This isn't a loss because we didn't call the TD on 3rd and 5 in a 1 score game. We did. It is a loss because our QB couldn't execute shit. Sayin as our QB and the this game is a blowout for Texas. That's the truth.

Only two serious questions:  1. On fourth and goal at the one, if the QB comes to the line and there are two men on the center, is the QB supposed to check out of the sneak or not?  Had he done that and run right, I think he could have gotten into the end zone.  Whole different ballgame.

2. Arch looked so uncomfortable in the first half, it kind of reminded me of Vince his 1st year, true freshman year, I think.

Is this a case of first game of season jitters or does the coaching staff need to "Let Arch be Arch", just like our QB problems were solved 20-21 years ago by "Let Vince be Vince"?

And of course like everybody else I am sick of the opposing team being so perfect that they have 0 yards of penalties through 3 quarters, and like somebody said, "here's the obligatory holding call after the game is done" thing to make the yardage look close.

The bright side is we have a kick ass defense and a kick ass punter.  Easily best punter since Dickson, and since I consider myself an expert on the best Texas D ever, the 1983 D, I would say this D is right up there.  If this Texas D had stopped OhioState on fourth down, it could easily be considered top 3 best D ever, up there with the 1981 and 1983 D, assuming this D continues to play this well throughout the season.

Without seeing other teams play, my guess is one loss, maybe two more, and a top 12 rating

Please no Vince comparisons yet.

Anyone here trying to pin this on Sark's play calling is a moron.

What's he supposed to do with a QB that can't make routine passes? Arch was awful. That was the reason we lost. Arch sucked. That is the fundamental reason we lost. Nothing else.

sark is the head coach, OC, and a "QB whisperer"

if he isn't to blame for constant sucky QBs, who is?  Milwee?

if so, guess who he reports to

Agreed. Our defense is legit all things considered. The refs absolutely made a difference in this game too, by no calls against Ohio State. Not that I question the calls against us. I thought one PI was a little ticky tacky, but not one you could really argue against. The missed holding and PI calls against the Buckeyes were notable. But none of that matters if Arch doesn't shit the bed today.

He don’t suck running the ball. He didn’t suck attaching the deep sideline. Could he have sucked at those? Probably. But we don’t know that because we rarely tried them. When he did run outside the tackles he was successful. When he did throw deep up the sideline he was successful. It’s a shame we only saw those a couple times and instead we watched our offense try the same intermediate and qb draw/power over and over.

Im simply saying we should try. And not trying is on Sark.

He got a pass picked attacking the deep sideline today.
