Blaming this iteration of the playoffs, when you can find complaints about the process for what seems like every year going back 30 years is shortsighted. The reality is that it's never been ideal. The nature of it, with the number of participants means it probably won't ever be. Unless you want to really go NFL style, which will bring out a fresh group of voices about how things are now ruined and the magic is gone

12 teams is too many for a playoff, but it's infinitely better than the bullshit that preceded it. We will have a very good pair of teams facing off in the Final, even if the first round is a bit of a dud.

What is going to happen is expansion.

Three teams have a legitimate shot of winning this thing so naturally we need more games!

They need to get rid of the weekly show. One day selection show today.  Eliminates the drama from week to week. Nobody knows shit about fuck until today.  They are not beholden to their thoughts from a month prior.

I’m a CFB degenerate. I set up 3 TV’s every Saturday and watch games for 12 hours and somehow they came up with a playoff that leaves me completely disinterested in 3/4 of the first round games.

I think Texas wins against Ohio State and possibly Georgia at a neutral site this year. I didn’t expect Indiana to beat tOSU. I think there’s 6 teams that could get hot and win it all.

CFP didn't ruin college football. Money transformed it.

They need to focus on the entertainment aspect of college football a lot more now and this year they failed miserably to put out an entertaining product leading up to the playoffs and perhaps through the first round.

Can’t say I agree.  Ohio State and Georgia are superior teams to Texas.

Until Sark proves he can win one game against Kirby, I refuse to believe even a neutral site game would change the outcome. As for Ohio State, we can beat them. We'll do it next year. Georgia would beat them, too. Indiana is the only team outside of Georgia that I fully believe can win it all, which will be insane if it happens. Indiana of all teams winning the NC would be surreal. I wouldn't hate it. As a matter of fact, it proves that if you can make the right hire, you could be the next Indiana. I like that because it will motivate AD's to put more pressure on lackadaisical coaches who think just making the CFP is awesome! Love it! to actually remove whatever they've shoved in their orifice and get their asses in gear. It serve as both a motivator and punisher for those who think just skeepwalking into the CFP every other year will cut it. It will not.

Georgia? Yes. Ohio State? No. Indiana? Yes. Oregon? Maybe.

But only 3 of those teams would make me nervous, and Ohio State ain't one of them. I think they're a very good team, but they aren't on the same level as Georgia or Indiana. One has a stacked roster and just lost to a team full of JMU transfers, while the other is a stacked roster that has a defensive mastermind and full of rabid dogs. They have a winning mindset. That's what's instilled in them. We almost beat OSU with an incompetent OC and OL coach and a DC who had Duane Akina on staff.

No it did. Ratings are at an all time high.

This is actually false.  The BCS NY6 games had more viewers than the playoff games do.  But there's more games overall, so 🤷

I hope Miami catches fire and plays Tech in the championship game

Tech isn't making the final lol. Also, fuck that. If Cristobal made it to the NC it would cut off our FL/GA supply for the absolute top recruits like Baxter, Cooper, Ffrench, Justus Terry, Dia Bell, Atkinson, Samari Matthews, Littleton, etc. The last thing I want is Miami to make it to the NC. Tech, I don't care.

You do realize Ohio State already proved on the field that they are superior to Texas in 2025, right?

Or were you too busy creating a reactionary meltdown thread for attention to realize that fact?

We’re talking neutral site games. We were in it until the end with OSU on the road. We were down 4 going into the 4th on the road. We absolutely have the opportunity to win those games at a “neutral” site that isn’t Atlanta.

I dunno about Indiana but as far as Texas is concerned, we need to be in the mix for a few years before winning the big one. We went to two playoffs and barely missed this one. We're in the mix, hang in there Hornfans.

Nah. They did not prove they were "superior" by beating us 14-7 in Colombus. What they showed was anyone can get lucky and drop a bomb to their WR for 40 yards and that ultimately got them the win. They showed they were more prepared, but hardly superior. Had the score been more like 24-7, sure, you could make that argument. But a one score loss to the defending NC's in a low scoring game in their house was hardly anything other than our defense holding our head above water while our offense unfucked their own faces wasn't enough, but we still have a good defense, and our offense is just warming up.

I'm being serious, but where did they show they were "superior?" We locked down both Smith and Tate (outside of his 40 yard td, which if taken away would give him 2/9/0) and Smith with 6/43/0. I would hardly call us inferior. Littleton literally made Smith inert. Muhammad had a blown assignment for the Tate td, but otherwise we did fine.

Manning had 179 passing yards, Wisner had 80 rushing, and Endries had 50. Our OL allowed 1 sack, and Manning threw 1 INT.

Georgia is superior in almost all facets of the game, aside from the QB.

Also, wtf are you talking about starting threads? What threads have I started for any reactionary meltdowns? I don't even start threads. The fuck?

It’s asswater. Blow the whole thing up and start over. This ain’t it.

And the previous approaches were fine, BCS and the 4-team "playoff"?? And before that, the AP voted 1 and 2 and they may or may not even play the game.

College football is entertaining but is a joke on they handle crowing a champ. It's getting better because you are getting more than a few teams to get a legit shot. I feel they need to add more teams.

CFP isn't ruining it. the committee and ESPN are and have ruined it.

There's a lot of things about CFB that are just not right because there's too many stupid people involved and too much money injected too quickly without any thought. Its gone fully corporate and management consulty in the span of less than 5 years.

ESPN and the current contract terms and conference structures and media rights are stupid at a fundamental level. The bending and changing of the rules to fit into TV timeslots also happened significantly faster than people realize and it has changed the entire strategy of games and how they are played, especially from behind.

The players without collective bargaining and without any restrictions are in a weird power dynamic with athletic departments and coaches.

Coaches are fucked because it's a lot more than coaching and recruiting now. It's about all kinds of crazy shit.

Everything about CFB is mainly stupid because of the stupid people who still live in the old world

Not having an actual playoff ruined college football. It has always been a silly beauty pageant. Weird that high schools and pros can play for championships but institutes that claim to be the highest level of education can't.

The UIL can figure it out but college football can't.

What a world.

Man, you nailed this.  For whatever reason I found it really hard to get into almost every game I tried to watch this season.  The endless commercials, lack of quality match ups a lot of the time, shitty fundamentals, taking half an hour to play the last two minutes of a half, etc.  And none of that shit is going to get better.

It was actually fine and better, it was awesome to win the Cotton Bowl back when there wasn’t a Kirk Herbstreit to tell you it didn’t really matter.

Sorry.

I get you and Wilcox confused.  I’m sure you understand.

But thanks once again for demonstrating the delusion amongst fans of “it’s not our fault we lost”.  It’s luck. Or the refs.  Or a conspiracy.  Or ESPN willed it so. Or Herbie’s dog peed on the ball.  Whatever.
